The Final Blessing

Dear Brother Knights,

I just received pictures from Sr. Flora. I put them on my face book page. She spoke with me on the phone this week and expressed her appreciation for the funds that she recently received and for the sneakers that were sent to the children in her home and school. I enjoyed seeing the photos and hearing about the joy our generosity brought to our brothers and sisters in the family of God in far away Tanzania. I especially enjoyed hearing Sr. Flora as she spoke so lovingly about the good people she met last April and May. I told her the Knights of Columbus (where she visited and played pool!) were going to try and help again this year. On Saturday April 9th the members of Council #430 were again going to hold a night at the races. Some of the proceeds would go to help St. Gabriel's Home in Arusha, Tanzania. This year Richie and myself have come up with a program where not only can people make bets on the "horses" at the event, but can actually get involved by claiming them and rooting for them as the "owners". For $100 anyone can get in on the action! You get to name the horse, be the jockey at the event and possibly win up to $1,000. More information will be available at the council in the near future. We are looking for 36 individuals or groups who want to get in on the action. Maybe it would be one way to make a special Lenten sacrifice! If you win it would feel glorious, just like Easter! Seriously again I want to say thanks for all the support you give to charitable causes since I became active a couple of years ago. Your dedication to the principles of the order, especially charity, is inspirational to me. I hope and pray you keep it up and that with the grace of God you may continue the good works that you have already started.

P.S. How about a Lenten Penance service for the members and their families at the council?
