SUMMER SKILLS GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP

 

At Our Lady of Mercy High School

 

 

 

July 21 - July 25, 2014

 

 

Session 1:   8:15-11:45      Session 2 & 3:   12:30-3:30

 

 

Summer Skills Camp is designed to teach the basic fundamentals of basketball, laying a foundation and building upon this as the camp progresses. Using the “teaching” method, rather than coaching, allows players to learn the basic fundamentals of basketball at their own pace. Throughout the course of the camp, players will receive comprehensive instruction designed to develop each student’s skills in the areas of:

 

 

 

Session # 1 (Grades 7-10) & Session #2 (Grades 4-6):

 

o    Ball Handling- to improve each participant’s ability to handle the ball under pressure and in the open court

 

o    Proper Shooting Mechanics – “catch, tuck and shoot method” to improve shooting accuracy and range

 

o    Post Moves- that will provide each participant with 4 post moves that will give them an advantage in the post

 

o    Guard & Finishing Moves- to improve each participant’s ability to score baskets, beat their defender and create scoring opportunities

 

o    Defensive- both on the ball and off the ball defense, post defense, and perimeter defense

 

Session 3 (Grades 1 & 2): Specially designed for players with little or no prior experience with basketball. Players will shoot on 8 foot baskets with smaller basketballs, learn how to dribble, dribbling while moving up and down the court, passing, proper shooting mechanics, concentrating the follow through. Players will participate in a variety of activities to improve coordination and basketball ability.

 

 

 

Each student will leave the Summer Skills Camp with the tools needed to continue to improve on their own, prepare them for next season, and for their basketball career.

 

 

 

The experienced coaching staff of this camp includes coaches that have coached both girls and boys basketball, played basketball at the college level, including on Division I teams, have coached numerous players that have gone on to play college basketball, including players currently playing Division I.

My daughter ___________________________, has had a recent physical examination and is physically able to participate in all camp activities. As my daughter’s parent/guardian, I accept full responsibility for any and all injuries that may occur or damages my child may cause as a result of participating in the Our Lady of Mercy Summer Skills Basketball Camp.

 

 

 

I hereby release and hold harmless the camp’s director, coaching staff, Our Lady of Mercy, its employees and/or volunteers at the camp from any and all claims, present and future resulting from injuries which may be sustained by my daughter while participating in camp activities. I further understand that my daughter is being admitted to the camp only upon the express condition that she is covered by a health insurance plan (ex. Excellus, MVP, etc) and coverage will remain in effect throughout the camp.

 

 

 

In the event that I am unavailable for the purposes of providing parental consent, I hereby authorize the coaching staff, in absence of a physician to provide such hospital care that includes routine diagnostic procedures and medical treatment necessary to my child. I understand that the consent and authorization granted herein does not include major surgical procedures and is valid only during the camp session for which my child is registered.
