FAQs
When does the Pop Warner Football season start and end? Our season begins for all divisions on Saturday, August 1, 2009. Season usually ends for Mitey-Mites just before Thanksgiving. For all other divisions, they will have playoffs, bowl games and will travel to places like Laughlin or Las Vegas, Nevada for example. Their season ends about the 1st week of December.
All teams except Mite-Mites will be competing for a National Championship held in early December at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Teams must win both Conference and Regionals to advance to this event.
My child has never played Football before. Will they do okay? Many boys and girls who sign up have no prior experience. The coaches take this into consideration during the conditioning and initial instruction period in August. This is why it's so very important for your child to attend every practice.
We always take vacations in August. Is this a problem? Absolutely! We understand that this is a huge commitment and sacrifice for your family to make. However, regular attendance is critical during August, because that's when the fundamental instruction takes place and each athlete must put in mandatory conditioning time. Most boys and girls, who miss even one week of practice in August, find it very hard to catch up. It's also not fair to the kids who might be on a waiting list that are able to attend every practice, but cannot due to the maximum number of participants allowed per team. For the safety of the child Athletes with frequent absences may be dismissed from the DBPW program.
Is my child guaranteed playing time? Diamond Bar Pop Warner is governed by the Pop Warner national rule whereby each football player MUST PLAY A MINIMUM number of plays depending on team roster size. If a player does not get their required plays by the 3rd quarter of a game that player will start the 4th quarter and remain in the game until their plays are completed. Each Diamond Bar coach has been instructed regarding the rule and each coach must comply with this rule or face possible suspension/removal from the organization.
What equipment will I need to buy for my child? Diamond Bar Pop Warner will provide all necessary equipment with the exception of football shoes (black cleats), game socks, and practice jersey (to go over shoulder pads), athletic supporter, and girdle. All of the equipment we issue to our players is NOCSAE approved and is either re-certified or replaced on a yearly basis. Players are provided on a loan only basis; helmet, practice pants, shoulder pads, hip pads, kneepads, game pants, game jersey (players will be able to keep their game jersey) and belt.
Note: Your child can wear black shorts and a white t-shirt to practice prior to receiving shoulder pads/helmet—we do ask that your child’s last name be printed on the back of their t-shirt; either written, taped, or otherwise.
What happens if our plans change? Can we get a refund? It is the policy of the Diamond Bar Pop Warner Football Association not to refund registration fees once the child begins practice or takes the field the first day of practice. Any request for refunds prior to August 1st or first day of practice must be submitted in writing to the Association, with an explanation and/or reason. If a child is removed due to not making weight prior to certification, a refund will be issued.
When and where are PRACTICES? Practices begin on Saturday, August 1, 2009, and will be held for all divisions Monday through Thursday from 5:00pm - 7:30pm. Starting in September when regular season begins, we will scale back to three practices per week. Practices are held mainly at Summit Ridge during the pre-season and Lorbeer during the regular season, although some teams might practice at other locations.
When and where are GAMES?
