    GAMECOCKS ICEBREAKER
    April 29, 2006  --

Well, we didn't have Zak with us this weekend due to the birth of his first man-child, but DIESEL still came out and played well without him.  For a small tourney, the overall quality of teams was good with four MCS teams represented.  TEAM DIESEL went 5-0 with 4 run-rule wins and came back from 7 down in the bottom of the 7th to win the other, for our first tourney win of the season.

Although, we had to overcome some communication errors in the infield, we looked extremely tough defensively.  To single out any individual player is almost impossible, but if I had to highlight play that sticks out in my mind it would be the overall glovework on the infield, especially Bones at third.  The middle infielders looked extremely impressive overall and Kevin stopped everything hit to him.  Chad also pitched well throughout, challenging hitters while minimizing walks.  The outfield play was also rock solid, definitely highlighted by the many hits taken away by Adam and the diving catch by Josh.

Offensively, we hit .649 as a team and averaged 23 runs per game.  We hit timely home runs and used them wisely.  Everyone seems to know their role and does it well.  Leading hitters included:

    Avg: Fatty, Joco & Kevin

    Runs:  Dut & Fatty

    RBI: Joco & Soda

    2B: Josh

    3B: Adam

    HR: Soda & Fatty

The only negative I saw from this weekend was lackadaisical baserunning at times.  Not looking to move up on passed balls and not taking extra bases when they present themselves.  Other than that, we had a great weekend.

Shout outs include:  Ernie and Vicki, Jodi, Melissa and the boys, Sarah and Pat representing the DIESEL Nation.  BJ and the boys from the Storm and Jeremy and the Blasters guys for heckling us for the last two games.  The Edge for their sloppy joe's feed and a huge shout out to the umpires for what may be the best called tourney I've ever been to.  No missed calls, a consistent strike zone and two good calls where the ball beat the runner by a good margin but tags were missed of which one was in our favor and the other was not, were highlights for the umps.  We all hope that we can get that kind of umpiring for the first MCS tourney as well.  To anyone we missed, we still love you!  PEACE!

    TJ'S EARLY BIRD
    May 7, 2006  --

Springtime in Great Falls usually is a windier time of year than others and this weekend was no different.  While battling 20 mile per hour winds blowing out to right center, Team DIESEL was able to pull out another tourney win.  We went 4-0, averaged 25 runs per game and hit at a .620 clip.

Defensive highlights included some stellar outfield play despite the wind, including Josh's diving catch and hosing of a dude at third and Adam's catches up against the fence.  On the infield, we were outstanding again, highlighted by some pivotal double plays by the middle infield and a huge double play turned by Bones, a hairy snatch by Joco up the middle, a nice grab by Brew on third and a game-saving stop at first by Kevin.

    Offensively, we were led by:

    Avg:  Fatty, Soda and Brew

    Runs:  Fatty and Joco

    RBI:  Fatty and Joco

    2B:  Josh

    3B:  Guzz

    HR: Fatty

One thing that really impressed me was that even with wind like that, we only hit two home runs for outs while scoring that many a game.  Bombs were again used wisely and when they were gone, our hitting didn't suffer.  Overall, we turned in another good performance.

Once again, Dieselites were out in full force.  Shout outs include:  Melissa, Katie, Jami, Jodi, Des and the kids, the Pinski and Petrini clan, Dale for some iron-man umpiring, Tim the TD, the Gamecocks and B&E fellas for making a road trip to GF, the +35 Sting hitting machine for pushing us to our limits two games in a row, BB, Tris, Travis and Jay on the Dawgs Re-Loaded and to anyone else we forgot, we love you, too.
