All around great hitting by everyone including a sacrifice bunt by Matt and a double by MJ. Exceptonal defensive plays by Marc and Joey. As usual each player contributed to this win. Sharks Lose to Braves
August 10, 2008 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks faced-off with the SYAG Braves in the NJBL Championship showdown at Levitt Field this past Saturday.
The first game was probably one of the best pitching and defensive games played in a while. The Braves and Sharks outfield dueled each other with amazing catches and throws to keep the game at 1-0 in the Sharks favor going into the bottom of the sixth.
With the Braves down to their final out, they fought back and scored 2 runs with a bases loaded single to center and end the game in dramatic fashion, 2-1.
The Braves opened up the second game scoring fast and increasing their lead to 8-0 by the 4th inning. The Sharks never gave up and scored 4 of their own runs but ran out of time and fell 8-4 and finished in second place in the NJBL American Division.
The Sharks would like to congratulate the SYAG Braves in 2 well played games and wish them luck in the upcoming fall season.

Sharks Advance to Championship Series
August 7, 2008 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks advanced to the NJBL American League Championship series this weekend, by defeating the Long Island Stars 10-4 last night in Brentwood.
The Sharks brought their "A" game to the field yesterday, getting great pitching and hitting when they needed it most. The Sharks increased their lead to 8-0 in the 4th inning but the feisty Stars would not go down easily scoring 4 runs with 2 outs in the 5th. The Sharks tacked on 2 more insurance runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and shut the Stars down to win the first round of the 2008 playoffs.
Joey, Brian and MJ secured the win and every player contributed offensively in this great game.
The Sharks will take on the SYAG Braves in a best of 3 series this weekend.
Congratulations to the Sharks on achieving another milestone!
Go Sharks!!!!!!

Sharks Advance to Playoffs
August 3, 2008 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks Summer Season officially ended this week with the Sharks splitting with the Setauket Patriots and defeating the Bellport Anglers Friday night. The Sharks finished the season 12-4, and have advanced to the playoffs tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, August 6th.
The Sharks played great baseball Tuesday against the Patriots and exploded for 10 runs while holding the Patriots to 4 runs. The players demonstrated an overall team-effort in winning this contest. Pitching, hitting and defense gave the Sharks their 11th win of the Season.
The Sharks again faced the Patriots Thursday night and started fast by scoring 4 runs but could not hold the Patriot team down. The Sharks could not consistently put together a good inning until the top of the 6th. Down by 9 runs, the Sharks rallied back scoring 6 runs with 2 outs and the go-ahead run at the plate. As fate would have it, the Sharks could not continue to rally and fell 3 runs short, 13-10.
The Sharks faced the Anglers Friday night at Baymen park and ended the season with a 4 inning 13-1 game. The Sharks and Anglers decided to continue the contest and let the kids play-out the last 2 innings and enjoy the last game of the Season. The Sharks would like to thank the Angler team and coaching staff in a great season finale where all the players enjoyed the game and got to play different positions.
After the game the players enjoyed a great big cake and wished coach Tom B. and Coach Fred Happy Birthdays. Thank you to all the Sharks and their Moms and Dads. Overall a great summer season of baseball.
A get well soon wish goes out to Shark dad Dave B, who we hope is resting now with his broken foot.
The Sharks will prepare to face The LI Stars in the single elimination playoff this week.

Sharks Defeat Braves
July 27, 2008 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks defeated the always tough Syag Braves this past Wednesday at Baymen Park, 10-3. The Braves struck first scoring 2 runs in the first inning, but the Sharks countered with 5 runs of their own in the first capped by a scorching 2 run homer by Davey B.
The Sharks settled down in the second inning and started to play some great defense and hold the Braves to one more run over the next 5 innings. Joey K. and Michael J. threw the ball extremely well and combined their efforts in this win.
Overall the Sharks offense was on fire and everyone contributed to this win either offensively or defensively.
The Sharks are now 9-3 and will take on the Bayport Anglers at Baymen Park on Sunday.

Sharks Sweep Stars at Brentwood
July 22, 2008 --
The Long Island Baymen played the Long Island Stars last Saturday in a very hot and sunny day at the Brentwood Youth Activities Complex. The Sharks ignored the heat the best they could and put up 29 runs in the double-header against the Stars. Pitchers Joey K and Tommy M combined for the win in the first game and Thomas, Brian and MJ took turns completing a very exciting second game. Davey B, Marc W, Andrew G, Thomas B, Tommy M, and Matt M all had a great offensive day at the plate. Tom M's great bunt to move the runner over to third turned into a 2 run score with Tom's excellent base running. Jake, MJ, Brian and Joey also contributed offensively in the contest. MJ and Andrew both lost a couple of pounds sweating out both games behind the plate and did a terrific job receiving the ball.
Things got really hot in the bottom of the sixth inning with 2 outs and the tying run on first. On an errant throw down to second base, the Stars baserunner took off for third and rounded the base. The runner decided to continue to home and Brian fired a strike to Andrew waiting at the plate to put the tag on the sliding runner to end the game, 8-7.
I would like to commend the Sharks and the Stars for "toughing-it-out" on a brutally hot day and playing as hard as they did.
Also, thanks to the Stars team Moms for supplying ice-cream after the games. Truely a class act.

Sharks Sweep Patriots at Ward Melville HS
July 16, 2008 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks got back on the winning track this past weekend with a sweep over the Setauket Patriots at Ward Melville High School.
The First game was a nail-biter with the Patriots tying the game in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Jake S. delivered with a single to right to drive in the winning run and give the Sharks their 4th win of the season. MJ & Jake pitched well in their combined effort.
The second game featured some great baserunning capped by Matthew M base clearing triple who then scored from an errant throw from the catcher. Thomas B. again pitched another great game and was relieved by Tom M. who closed the game out. The Sharks went on to win 9-5 and improved their recored to 5-3.
The Sharks will face the Patriots again this Thursday atPort Jeff High School.

Baymen Sharks Defeat Syag Braves
June 28, 2008 --
The Sharks traveled down the road in Ronkonkoma to meet the always tough Syag Braves at Smith field this past Friday night. Brian A. pitched a very good game but unfortunately did not get the support from his teammates. Mental errors, poor defense, and lack of hitting put the Sharks in a 5-1 hole going into the top of the 6th inning. Joey K. relieved Brian and did his job keeping the Braves off the basepaths.
Down four runs, the Sharks did not give up and hit their way back to a 5-5 tie for extra innings. Joey again held the Braves scoreless and took his team into the seventh inning.
Davey B. stepped up to the plate and drove a pitch into the netting in right center field for his first "over the fence" home run this year giving the Sharks a 6-5 lead. The Sharks got some more timely hitting and scored two more times increasing their lead to 8-5. This game proved that every inning is crucial and this is why we play every inning hard. This was an exciting come from behind victory against a very tough team. Great Job boys.
The Sharks will now prepare for our upcoming 4th of July Tournament.

Sharks Start Summer Season with Sweep
June 24, 2008 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks started the Summer Season by sweeping the Bellport Anglers this past weekend, 15-1 & 11-1. Both games were well played and a total team effort. Pitching and defense were the keys to these victories. The bats came alive in the first game and carried over into the second game against some very good pitching. Daveys early 2-run home run in the second game was all that was needed as the Shark defense held the Anglers to 1 run.
Next up is the LI Stars at Baymen field Wednesday, June 25 at 6:00 p.m.

LI. Baymen Sharks NJBL 2008 Spring Champions!!!
The Long Island Baymen Sharks defeated the Setauket Patriots 9-2 & 13-3 this past weekend earning them their 3rd title in 4 seasons. The Sharks finished the Spring with a record of 10-2.
The Sharks hosted the Patriots at Baymen field Sunday on a very hot and humid day. Fatigue would be a factor in this 2 game set and all hands were on deck. Brian A. got the nod in the first game and was very effective in keeping the ball low but in the strike zone. The Sharks struck first with one on and Joey K. at the plate. The pitcher took a chance on a 3-1 count and threw a change up that stayed upstairs and Joey crushed it high in the air to left field clearing the 215 marker for a two run homer. The defense was on all cylinders with a perfect 4-6-3 double play started by Andrew G. at second, feeding Marc W. crossing the bag and firing a strike to the outstretched arm of Joey K. at first. MJ had a great day behind the plate nailing 1 runner at second and 1 at third. Jake S. came in to close the game out for the Sharks. Offensively the Sharks did everything right from executing bunts, stealing and driving in runs when needed.
Game two had Thomas B. on the mound and Tom pitched very well until he had to be removed with a comebacker that glanced off his pitching hand. Joey K. took the ball and kept the Patriots in check as the Sharks mounted a 9 run lead. The heat began to take its toll as MJ and Andrew took turns behind the plate and was rescued by Tom M. in the last inning. MJ was well enough to get on the mound and end the game for the Sharks. The Patriots played 2 great games making great plays in the field on a hot and nasty day. Offensively Marc, Brian, Thomas, Tommy M., and Davey stung the baseball. Davey's steal of home was another hi-lite to end another great season of baseball.
Congratulations to the entire Shark family on another great season. The Sharks prepared long and hard in the off season and the results are evident in their consistent play. Thanks to all the coaches and parents for all their hard work and dedication to this team.

Sharks Champions Memorial Day Weekend
May 28, 2008 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks have gone through several changes over the past year and have evolved into a highly competitive travel team. The Sharks are now in their 4th "season" of travel baseball and this past Memeorial Day weekend participated in their first local tournament. Teams from all over Long Island came together to play the game we love.... Baseball.
The Sharks took the field early Saturday morning at the CYA complex against the Long Island Inferno/Orange to start game one of this incredible journey. The Umpire threw the ball to the oposing pitcher and yelled "play ball!" And the Sharks did. MJ took the hill and was flawless in holding the Inferno to zero runs. Tommy M. closed the game for the Sharks shutting out the Inferno 6-0 to take game one of the Tournament. Outstanding defensive plays were made by Brain A. diving to his right at second base, and nailing the runner at first. Other gems were made by Joey at first, Marc at short and Davey in right.
The following games were played flawlessly with very few mistakes and mental errors. Game 2 saw Thomas B. on the mound against the LI Braves/LIAS Sharks and once again, pitching was near perfect. The team complied 16 runs and allowed only 1 run to take the second game of the tournament.
The ball was handed to Jake S. in game 3 against the Syosset Braves. Jake was very economical with his pitches and stayed ahead of every batter he faced. The Sharks produced 11 runs while again giving up none to take the 3rd game and were headed into game 4 against the Setauket Patiots.
Tommy M. started for the Sharks in game 4 and threw an excellent game keeping the Patriots off the bases. The last inning saw Andrew G. make his 2008 debut on the mound striking out 2 batters and getting the third to bounce to Brian at second to end the game, 17-0.
Game 5 was another challenge, facing the always good Long Island Ducks - Green team who has beaten several American League teams in the past. Brian A. took control and was in complete command. The Sharks struck for 6 runs in the first inning and the Sharks closed the deal, 10-3 to move into the Championship game.
The Championship game featured another "fresh" arm. Joey K. faced the Mineola Hurricannes who just defeated the CONYO Chiefs. Joey was on fire as he popped the glove and kept the Hurricanes on thier heels on every at bat. With the bases loaded and the Sharks looking to end the game with an 11-0 lead in the 5th, Thomas delivered a line drive down the third base line giving the Sharks their first Tournament victory in Shark history.
Every Shark player produced offensivley in this tournament. Joeys towering "over the fence" Home run was the hi-lite of the series along with Marc's exciting inside-the-park homer. MJ's drives to right, scoring and moving runners over was a display of "how the game is played". Davey, Brian, Joey, Tom M., Matt, Thomas, Tom, Andrew and Jake all crushed the baseball and sprinkled in a little "small ball" making the other teams throw the baseball around.
As far as baseball goes, this was by far the best weekend that I can remember. The hard work and dedication came through on the ball field. The Parents deserve a standing ovation for the dedication in getting their boys to the practices and games and taking care of their other kids needs at the same time. We are very proud of every player on this team and take great pride in watching these boys grow not just as ball players, but as respectable young men.
Congratulations to the 2008 NJBL Memorial Day Champions, The Long Island Baymen Sharks!!

Sharks Sweep vs South Bay Eagles
May 20, 2008 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks hosted the South Bay Eagles on a beautiful Sunday spring morning at Baymen park this past weekend.
The Sharks wasted no time with an offensive attack scoring 7 runs in the first 3 innings. The attack was led by Joey, MJ, Davey, BP and Tom M. who collected 10 hits and 5 walks. MJ had another great outing on the mound with 5 innings pitched, striking out 6, walking 2 and holding the Eagles to 2 runs. Marc W. made his 2008 pitching debut and did what the coaches asked. Throw strikes. Marc finished the game giving the Sharks their 7th win of the season ending in a 11-5 victory.
Game 2 featured Joey on the mound who went 4 ininngs and allowed only 2 runs, while striking out 6. The Sharks offense again showed their teeth and managed to score 10 runs. Davey: Double, triple. Tom M: 2 singles and a walk. Marc: 2 singles. Brian: Double. Andrew: Double. Joey: Double. Matt and Thomas both had singles. The Eagles would not go down easy and scored 6 runs in the final inning hi-lited by a bases clearing triple. Brian A. was called on for 2 pitches to end the game with a ground out to Andrew at second. Both games were played extremely well and the Eagles showed why you play all 6 innings in the game. With this 10-8 victory, the Sharks improved their record to 8-2 and will play the Setauket Patriots on June 8.

Sharks Split with Patriots at Ward Melville
May 11, 2008 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks split with the new Setauket Patriots team on Mother's day. Brian A. pitched the first complete game in Shark history with a gem in a 9-1 win. Brian allowed only one walk while striking out 2 batters. Tommy M. made an oustanding play at second base diving to his left, knocking the ball down and getting the runner at first. The Sharks went on to score 9 runs with outstanding offensive performances by Marc W.who went 2 for 3 with a lead-off triple, Joey K. & Thomas both going 3 for 3 with 2 singles and a double and Davey going 2 for 3 with 2 singles.
In game 2 the Sharks could have used some runs from the first game but just couldn't get going with the bats. MJ did a nice job on the mound but the Partiots hits found their way through the infield. The Sharks did make a gallant effort to come back in the last inning but ran out of time and fell 6-3. The hi-lite of the game was Jake S. making 2 beautiful catches in right field to save some runs. All-in-all it was a fun day and the boys hit home-runs with their moms as they presented roses in between games for Mothers Day!. See pics below.

Sharks Sweep Patriots
May 6, 2008 --
Things started out a little rough for the Long Island Baymen Sharks and the Setauket Patriots this past Sunday at Ward Melville High School. Not only was the weather uncertain, 4 teams were booked to play on the same field.
After a 15 minute delay, both teams took the field and baseball got underway. Tom M. made his first start of the season for the Sharks and pitched a gem of a game going 4+ innings. The Patriot pitcher was just as impressive and both pitchers did not allow a run until the 5th inning. The Sharks were in trouble in the first inning with the bases loaded, 2 outs and the Patriots power hitter at the plate. Marc W. made his debut at Shortstop and didn't waste any time jumping high and stabbing a scorching line drive to end the Patriots attack. The bats finally woke up and Joey, Matthew and Jake all connected and drove in runs. Jake S. made a great baserunning play stealing home which allowed Brandon to advance to second. When the dust settled, 4 runs had crossed the plate. The Patriots battled back scoring 3 runs to make it a 4-3 game. Jake S. relieved Tom and closed the game out giving the Sharks their 4th win of the season, 4-3.
Great defensive plays were made by Thomas at third, Brian at second, Marc at shortstop and Joey at first base.
Game 2 featured Joey on the mound pitching very well through 4+ innings and keeping the Patriot scoreless. The Sharks took control of the game offensivley with key hits from Marc, Matthew, MJ and Andrew. Jake S reached base 3 times scoring a run along with Marc's 3 for 3 day and 2 RBI's. The Sharks extended their lead to 10-0. Thomas closed the game out and the Patriots managed to score 3 runs ending the game, 10-3.
The Sharks are now 5-1 and are getting better as the weeks progress. Everyone contributed to these games which made these wins a total team effort.
We are happy that Davey has fully recovered and will be back next week.

Sharks Split with Cardinals
April 27, 2008 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks hosted the Ronkonkoma Cardinals on an overcast day at Baymen field Sunday afternoon.
MJ took the mound for the Sharks and was pinpoint with his control, but the Cardinals came out swinging with some solid hits and good baserunning. Several miscues by the Sharks allowed runners to move up and later score to build a 4 run lead.
The Cardinal pitcher was also very accurate and several Sharks hit the ball on-the-nose, but right at the defense. The Sharks were able to put a couple of runs on the board with a screaming line drive off the bat of Joey K. who slid in safely at third for a triple. Joey relieved MJ in the 5th inning and pitched well, allowing only one run , but the Sharks could not catch up at this point, falling to the Cardinals, 5-2.
Some great defensive plays were made by Bobby, Matthew, and Brian A. at second base.
In the second game the Shark batters were patient at the plate and used good pitch selection to score 7 runs in the first inning. Brian A. laid down a perfect bunt to catch the Cardinal defense by surprise. Brian A. then took the hill and was brilliant through the first 5 innings. The first Shark home run of the season came off the bat of Andrew G. who connected on an inside fastball and launched it into right field rolling all the way to the fence. Andrew slid home increasing the Shark lead. Thomas B. relieved Brian in the 6th, pitching a scoreless inning and closed the game out giving the Sharks their 3rd win of the season, 10-1.
Every game whether won or lost are learning experiences for the team. The Sharks will continue to enhance their knowledge of both offensive and defensive situations on the practice field.
The Sharks were happy to see our #4 batter in the dugout recuperating from his recent tonsillectomy. Although he couldn't cheer, we were happy that Davey B. was there to support his team. We hope he is back in full swing next week.
The Sharks coaching staff would also like to thank Joe Messina, his staff and team on two great games.

Sharks Sweep South Bay Eagles in Season Opener!
April 13, 2008 --
The L.I. Baymen Sharks took on the South Bay Eagles in the 2008 season opener in West Babylon on a brisk Sunday morning.
The Sharks struck early in the 1st inning. The 1st hit of the game came from one of newest members Michael J, better known as MJ. Hits followed by Davey and Brian. Taking the hill for the Sharks was MJ who pitched a solid 3 innings keeping the Eagles in check. In relief was Joey K who came in and pitched 1 2/3 innings and then the ball was handed to another Newbie Shark Jake S,who came in with the bases loaded and 2 outs. He struck out the final batter and closed the game in the 6th, giving the Sharks their first victory of the season with a score of 11-3. The big blow of the game came from Matthew with a triple over the right fielder's head scoring some runs. Some great defensive plays by Davey, Matthew and Tom M.
Game 2 the Sharks were up against the Eagles ace, a hard throwing right handed pitcher. The Sharks were not intimidated playing smart baseball with great pitch selection drawing 2 walks. Andrew answered with a hard hit ball down the 3rd baseline scoring 2 runs giving the Sharks an early 2 run lead. Brian A started the game and pitched 3 great innings. More hits followed from Joey K, MJ and Davey which sparked 3 more runs giving the Sharks a comfortable lead. Thomas was handed the ball in relief and closed the game for the Sharks. Thomas was unshaken with the bases loaded in the 5th inning striking out the final batter. Thomas closed the game out in the sixth inning giving the Sharks a 5-2 victory.
Both games were truely a team effort. Pitching, hitting, and great defense were the keys to securing the victory. The Sharks never missed a beat and picked up right where they left off last season. Great job boys!!!!

January 6, 2008 --
The 2008 10U Sharks completed their first week of indoor training. On Wednesday night they began their speed and agility workouts which will continue for the next 9 weeks. The boys are directed by 3 trainers who work with them on footwork, agility, endurance and conditioning. The winter workout continued on Saturday night at Play Like A Pro. The team looked great on the turf. The Sharks will be working with LI Ducks Pitcher Ben Grezlovski and former major league player Jason Alaimo. Pitching instruction, and hitting techniques are covered during this workout.
It was great to get back to work with the boys. They all seemed to grow a little over the winter and we were all excited to be back together. The coaches were impressed with the players performance. The Sharks have not missed a beat! Most of the boys continued with hitting and pitching instruction through the winter hiatus and the improvements were displayed. The Sharks will benefit greatly from the instruction of Ben and Jason which will continue through March. We are looking forward to a great 2008 season!!!!!

Baymen Sharks Enjoy Successful First Year
November 10, 2007 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks 9u travel team's first year came to a close on October 28th with a double-header sweep over the Long Island Astros. The game was a perfect way to end a tremendous 1st year together.
Since the beginning of January the team started out on a journey together.Their hopes were to become a competitive and respected team within the NJBL. Now, as we hold our second NJBL Championship title...we are extremely proud of the teams' accomplishments. Here are just a few things to remember as we hang up our gloves, and tuck away our bats for the winter.....
Indoor workouts every Saturday night, meeting and working with Ducks pitcher Tim Cain, out 1st game freezing against the Kings Park Knights,The Glen Cove Mets game, the Garden City Blackout!, winning our 1st division title, the birth of Brutus, Team bbq at Baymen Park, Our night as the Dream Team with the LI Ducks, hitting lessons, pitching lesson, Ripken Tournament...the pool at the hotel and waiting for the Fauvells to arrive..by train, Coach Fred getting hit in the face with a foul ball, Davey's monster shots, Gary's surgery, sweeping the American League summer champs Nesconset Panthers, great pitching, pool party at the Hopkins, the lawn at the Brown house after the Sharks attack, enter new Coach and pitcher..the Amato's, Tom A's classic "one liner", BP's diving catches, our HR hitters..Davey, Thomas, Andrew, Matthew, and Marc, pulled pork sandwiches, hit, hit, hit..scoring 16 runs in our 1st inning against the Astros, another division championship.
In the forefront of all these memories came fun and the creation of a new family. We never imagined to be in the company of such fine young men, and wonderful parents. We have been extremely blessed with the talent, commitment and respect that has come to be the LI Baymen Sharks. I know that for me, this year has surpassed all of my expectations. Sharks End Season on a Positive Note
November 3, 2007 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks hosted the Long Island Astros at Baymen Field on October 28th ending the long baseball season that began back in January of this year.
The first game featured newcomer Tom M on the mound, and Tom delivered one of the best pitching performances to date. 62 pitches, 5 innings, and only 1 earned run. With the Sharks up 11-1, Sean S. was called on once again to close the game and Sean did it in fine fashion, giving the Sharks their 9th win of the season. The Shark bats were on fire this game and everyone contributed offensively in this well played gem.
If the Sharks wanted something special or memorable to happen in the second and final game of the season, they got it in the bottom half of the first inning. Already down 2 runs, the Sharks put together one of the most impressive offensive attacks in any game I've ever witnessed. When the dust finally settled, the Sharks sent 22 batters to the plate, setting a Shark record of scoring 16 runs. This inning had everything you could possibly imagine. One of the outs recorded was a sacrifice bunt by Andrew to set up runners at 2nd & 3rd. Thomas' long drive to right scored 3 runs with the bases loaded. Joey's intentional walk, only to come up to bat again with the bases loaded and deliver a 2 run single. Davey, Marc, Alec, Tom, Sean, Matthew, Bobby, Brian, Joey, Andrew, Thomas all came up, hit after hit, and ran the bases with determination. It's as if they didn't want the game or inning to end. The game ended though, with 2 outs in the bottom of the fifth with Marc delivering a 2 out, 2 run single to end the game, 20-8. This victory earned the Sharks their 10th win of the season and clinched second place in the division. Pizzas were provided by Tom & Terri to celebrate another successful season playing ball and having fun.
The Shark coaching staff is extremely pleased with the overall performance and progress the boys displayed this year, right up to the final game. Everyone is looking forward to the time off and spending quality time with the families. Stay tuned for a season re-recap.

Sharks Sweep Patriots
October 20, 2007 - 07:50 PM --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks traveled up to South Setauket to take on the Setauket Patriots on a Beautiful Saturday afternoon. The Sharks were able to pound out 22 runs for the day. That was the most runs scored by the Sharks in one day since that infamous Glen Cove Mets double-header back in eary May.
The Shark attack was led by Marc W. who had an awesome day at the plate including 4 doubles in the second game. The Sharks were very disciplined at the plate this week and took advantage on the basepaths as the Patriots decided to throw the baseball around the infield.
Tom M. started for the Sharks in Game 1 and pitched very well forcing the Patriots to put the ball in play. The Shark defense was stellar this week with great plays from BP, Tom M. and David B. Sean S. took the ball from Manager Tom Brown and finished off the Patriots to earn the Sharks their 7th win of the year.
Game 2 started off a little differently as the Patriots scored 4 runs early in the game. The Sharks offense bounced right back and scored 4 runs to tie the game and eventually opened up the game to win by the score of 12-6. Again, BP made some great plays in the field along with Alec F. at second base. Andrew finally got his runner at second after several close calls all day. Joey K. started the game for the Sharks and Thomas B. came in early and pitched 4 great innings to shut the Patriots down. The Sharks picked-up their 8th win of the Season, placing them in a three-way tie for first place with The LI Ducks and Nesconset Panthers.
Overall the Sharks earned themselves an "A" for the day with a great offensive attack, great defense and great pitching.

Sharks Split with Panthers
October 2, 2007 - 08:30 PM --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks took on the American League Summer Champions, the Nesconset Panthers, at Browns Road field this past Saturday in an afternoon doubleheader.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after 3 innings, but the Sharks retaliated and scored 4 runs on some timely hits and very good baserunning. Moving to the bottom of the 5th inning, the Sharks took the lead with a two out two run single by Bobby, increasing the lead to 6-4. Brian and Tom did a good job keeping the Panthers off the bases, and Bobby came in to close the game out giving the Sharks their sixth victory of the season, with a score of 6-4.
Thomas started the second game but had to be removed in the second inning with a sore arm. Coach Tom handed the ball over to Sean who kept the Panthers caged for 3 innings. Joey took over and also did a nice job on the hill, but the pesky Panthers did not give up and tied the score in the sixth inning, 4-4. With 5 minutes left in regulation, the game moved on to the 7th inning. The Panthers were very patient at the plate and put runners on first and second with no outs. Marc was called to the mound and gave a great effort in a tough situation. With runners now at second and third, the Sharks brought their infield in and looked for a ground ball. The next Panther hitter hit a ground ball to Brandon at short who fired a bullet to Andrew at home. Andrew applied the tag on the sliding runner in a bang-bang play, but the Panther was called safe and the game ended in a 5-4 extra inning loss for the Sharks. A great game on both sides.
The Sharks record is now 6-2. Every week is a new learning experience and the boys are applying this knowledge to every game. The Coaches are very pleased with the overall play from the boys. A great job against a great team!

Sharks Sweep Patriots
September 25, 2007 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks hosted a double-header Saturday against the very tough Setauket Patriots. The weather was a little shaky in the first game and both teams wondered if they'd even get this in.
Brian, one of our newest pitchers, took the mound in the first game and threw one of the best games in Shark history. 5 innings pitched, no walks and only one hit was surrended in this gem of a game. Brian was removed with a comfortable lead in the sixth inning, and Bobby took the hill and closed the game, giving the Sharks their fourth victory in five games. Defense was the second key to this victory with great plays from Marc, David, Matthew and Bobby. Andrew nailed 2 players down at second base that kept the Patriot runners thinking twice about taking a base. The bats also came alive with everyone contributing in this well played game, ending in a 12-1 score.
The second game started out pretty much like the first game. New Shark Teammate Tom took the the hill and pitched 3 great innings. The bats continued to stay hot and the Sharks built an early lead and never looked back. Joey relieved Tom and also pitched well to close the game out and give the Sharks their fifth win of the season, 8-2. The Sharks are now 5-1 and will face the Summer Champs, the Nesconset Panthers, this Saturday.
Overall two great games against a very good team. Huge improvement at the plate by all batters. Great job boys!

Sharks Split with Ducks
September 18, 2007 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks split their double header with the Long Island Ducks this past Saturday at Walsh park in Northport. The Ducks came out very disciplined at the plate and took advantage of several walks issued to their team early in the game. The Sharks answered back with several key hits but couldn't hold off the Ducks offensive attack and fell by the score of 9-6.
In the second game the Sharks received a better effort from their pitching staff and won the game 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth. Brian and Thomas joined forces and gave the Sharks a chance to win the second game.
Andrew's single to right put the Sharks ahead at 5-4, but the Ducks answered back scoring 1 to tie the score in the top of the sixth, 5-5.
Sean led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, and moved to second on a stolen base. With Brandon up and one out, he hit slow grounder to second and Sean took off for third. The second baseman threw to first but Brandon beat it out and was safe. Sean continued on to home and the first baseman threw home in a very close play at the plate. Sean was safe and the game ended 6-5 with the Sharks improving their record to 3-1.
The Sharks will play their first home game of the season this Saturday with the new Setauket Patriot's team. Go Sharks!

Sharks Sweep Hawks in Fall Season Opener
September 9, 2007 --
The Sharks took on the Half Hollow Hills Hawks Saturday afternoon in the fall season opener. What the Sharks didn't know, was that the Hawks were the District 34 Blue Ribbon Champions this past summer. The Hawks played like champions with superb pitching and great defense from their centerfielder and alert infield.
The 1st game was started by our newest Shark player Brian who held the Hawks scoreless in 3 innings. Brian handed the ball over to another new Shark Tom, who also pitched well keeping the Hawks scoreless in 2 innings pitched. Meanwhile the Hawks pitcher kept the Sharks in check and held us scoreless through 5 innings. He was removed in the 5th due to pitch count, and the Sharks countered with two runs. This was led by a 2 RBI triple from Thomas. The ball was handed over to ole reliable Sean, who shut the Hawks down in the final inning and preserved the shutout. David and Tom robbed the Hawk batters as they made tremendous catches in right field. Great defense by our catchers and infield helped in our victory.
The 2nd game was started by our final newest Shark Joe, who gave a great effort on the hill. He held the Hawks to 2 runs through 4 innings pitched. Thomas came in relief of Joe in the 5th inning. The Hawks managed to score 1 run cutting the lead to 4-3. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, the most exciting play this year occured. The Hawk batter pounded the ball into the ground that bounced high in the air.Thomas grabbed the ball coming off the hill. The runner stayed at third base and Thomas looked to 1st, but held the ball because there was no play. Meanwhile, the runner on 2nd broke for third and there were now 2 Hawk players near third base. Thomas headed towards 2nd and forced the runner back, and pump-faked the throw to 2nd. The runner on 3rd took the bait and scampered for home. Thomas fired a strike to Brandon who was catching, and had the Hawk player in a rundown. The Hawk player came within 5 feet of scoring, when Brandon chased the runner down and tagged him out to end the game.
Overall both games were played very well. This included great defense, tremendous pitching, and timely hits. Marc had a stellar day at the plate pounding the ball in the outfield with every at bat. The coaches were very proud of the effort the team showed against a very tough team. We would like to officially welcome Brian, Joe and Tom to our Shark family. We would also like to extend a big welcome to our newest Coach,Tom. He is a valuable addition to our coaching staff. We look forward to an exciting and fun Fall season. Click on the Photo Album Menu to see the team in action. Thanks Tim!

Sharks Invade Citi-Bank Park!
August 11, 2007 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks invaded Citi-Bank Park Saturday night as part of the "Dream Team"! All the players took the field prior to the game and had the privilege to meet first base coach and member of the 1969 World Champion Mets, Bud Harrelson. The Players also met with the 1982 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals pitcher and current manager of the Long Island Ducks, Dave Lapoint. Bud and Dave signed autographs on baseballs and caps. Pictures were taken with Mr. Harrelson as well.
The night could only be described as crazy, out of control, and nuts. And that was just the parents. The kids on the other hand had a great time cheering for their favorite players and getting to see an excellent game and some Grucci fire works to top off the evening. A great big thanks goes out to Manager Tom Brown for setting up this unforgettable evening. We all had a great time. Pictures will follow soon!

Sharks Finish Summer Season on Positive Note
August 9, 2007 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks have completed the 2007 Summer Season in the Amercian division by beating the Long Island Astros 4-3 in an exciting and well played game, giving the Sharks an overall 7-7-1 record. Winning 6 of the last 7 games and finishing .500 with a tie is an exceptional accomplishment in the tough American Division, considering more than half of the Shark players have not participated in travel baseball prior to this year.
Timely hits, good base running, good pitching and great defense were the keys to this victory. Thomas and Sean pithced very well getting ahead in the count and keeping the Astro players off balance and off the bases through most of the game. Things got a little hot under the collar when the Astros loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 6th inning. With the bases loaded and the winning run on first base, the play of the game came when an Astro batter hit a failry deep fly ball to right field. Camping under the ball and keeping his composure was Marc, who two-handed the catch, and threw a perfect and quick strike to Sean who was cutting off the play. The Astro runner on third scored easily, but more importantly, the tying run was held at second by the heads-up play from Marc. The next batter grounded out and the game ended in a 4-3 victory for the Sharks.
Coach Tom And Coach Fred are extremely pleased with how well the team has progressed througout the season. The players have learned quite a bit in a very short period of time. Not just baseball, but good sportsmanship and becoming confident and respectable young men. Congratulations to the entire Shark family on a great summer season!

Sharks Finish Week 1-1
August 4, 2007 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks finished the week winning one and losing the other. Currently, the Sharks are 6-7-1 with 2 games left to go.
Tuesday's nights game against the Plainedge Red Devils in Hicksville ended in an 8-7 loss after the Sharks tied the game in the top of the 6th down by 3. Davey led off the 6th inning with a single followed by Marcs scorching double to right center scoring Davey. Andrew stepped up to the plate and hit a bomb down the line in right field that led to a 2 run home run to tie the score at 7 each. The Sharks could not get another run and went into the bottom of the 6th tied 7-7. Sean pitched a masterful game but had to be removed due to the pitch count. The call of duty went to Brandon, who made his pitching debut under extreme pressure. With the bases loaded and one out, Plainedge blooped a fly ball to shallow right that dropped in and scored the runner from third to win the game, 8-7. The Sharks made some costly mistakes in the field and did not get the timley hits needed to win the game, but once again showed heart in coming back and forcing Plainedge to bat in th bottom of the 6th inning. Overall an exciting game, and another game of experience for the Sharks.
Back at Baymen Park Thursday, the Sharks took on the Smithtown Bulls for the first time this season. The Bulls made some fantastic plays in the field holding the Sharks scoreless. The Sharks retaliated with some great defensive plays of their own from Matthew and Davey along with a great double play from Matthew at short who fired it to Sean at third. The Sharks opened up the game batting around and scoring 7 runs capped by a screaming line drive home run from Marc. The Sharks scored 2 more runs winning the game 9-3. Thomas & Bobby combined for a great pitching performance holding the Bulls to 3 runs.
The Sharks will take on the Astros on Monday and will end the Season next week with the final game against the Smithtown Bulls.

Sharks Show Teeth - Win 4 in a Row
July 29, 2007 --
7/22 Smiths Field
The Long Island Baymen Sharks have recently started to show their Spring form by winning 4 games in a row this past week.
Last Sunday the Sharks took on the Braves at Smiths field and split with the tough Braves in 2 very good games. The first game was won by the Braves, 7-2. Good pitching on the Braves part and a few errors and mental mistakes cost the Sharks the game. In the second game the Sharks came out swinging and struck early and never looked back winning the game 10-4. Pitching, defense and good baserunning was the differnce in this game.
7/26 Glen Head Community Center
On Thursday the Sharks headed west out to Glen Head to take on another tough team, the 8-3 Long Island Yankees. In their first meeting at Baymen Park, the Yankees came out victorious in a 6-2 contest.
In this second meeting, the Sharks scored early and played some very good defense along with great pitching from Bobby. The Sharks increased their lead to 8-2, and broke the game open with a Grand Slam Home Run by Davey. Sean & Thomas came in to finish the game and the Sharks went on to win, 12-6.
7/28 - Baymen Park
As the season has progressed, things just don't get any easier for the Sharks. Visiting for the first time at Baymen Park, the Nesconset Panthers arrived early along with their impressive 9-4 record for an early Saturday Double-Header.
Once again Bobby took the hill and was impressive in taming the Panthers in this contest. The Sharks may possibly have played their best game offensivly and defensivly to date. The Sharks took control of the game early, with some timely hits and aggresive baserunning. Defensively, they played hard every inning. Marc closed the game out and the Sharks ran away with a 15-1 victory.
In the second game, both teams played extremely well defensivly. Everyone contributed in this game and several players took their lumps in this contest. With Mickey already at the hospital taken for x-rays after being hit in the face in the first game, Bobby took a hard back-swing on his left hand behind the plate and had to be removed. Andrew was hit in the thigh at the plate and was also nursing a bruised ankle from the first game. Thomas pitched 2 innings and Sean came in to relieve Thomas in the 3rd inning after Thomas reached his pitch count. The Sharks were able to push 2 runs across the plate, but the Panthers were able to score 2 runs as well leaving a tie score going in to the bottom of the sixth inning. Sean pitched very well and held the Panthers from scoring the go ahead run.
So the stage was set. Sharks 2, Panters 2, bottom of the 6th inning. The Panthers brought in their closer, a very tall and lanky right-hander who threw the ball very hard.
Brandon stepped into the box and promplty took a ball off his face and went down hard. Luckily, this was a glancing blow and not as serious as Mickeys shot. Brandon, shook it off and hustled down to first base determined to do his job. Thomas stepped up to the plate and on the first pitch, Brandon took off for second and slid in safe on a great throw from the Panther catcher. Thomas then did his job grounding the ball to the right side sending Brandon over to third with one out. A fly ball would now score the winning run. With Davey stepping up to the plate, the Panther manager intentionally walked Davey, which drew several groans from the stands. Now with runners on first and third, Bobby stepped up to the plate. Down to his final strike, Bobby blooped a ball over the first basemans head sending Brandon scampering home and winning the game, 3-2.
This was the first sweep for the Sharks in the American division. The team played extremely well with many outstanding plays and performances. The boys should be very proud of the way they played and these games truly were a team effort. Congratualtions boys on a great week of baseball!

Ripken Mid Summer Classic
July 18, 2007 --
The L.I. Baymen Sharks ventured into deep waters as they attended The Ripken Tournament on July 7-8. The purpose of this tournament was to get some experience as well as bond with teammates and their families. The Sharks played hard against a very tough Tidewater Bomber team in game 1 getting great hits and playing a tough defense. We were unable to push the win across but were proud of the effort the Sharks displayed. The Tidewater Bombers are ranked #1 in Virginia and was the runner up in this tournament.
The Sharks could not get a break in game 2 as the heat index reached 105 degrees. The Ramapo Rangers pushed our pitching staff to the brink as the Rangers hit hard and made very tough defensive plays.
Game 3 was probably the most exciting game played in this tournament. The Sharks battled the WHC Renegades. The team fell behind early in the game ,but had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 6th inning with a score of 10-8. David hit a hard line drive to short that was caught by the shortstop to end the threat.
The Sharks could not come up with a win in this tournament, however the team and families had a great weekend of fun. The boys had a great bonding experience and the families were able to spend some quality time getting to know eachother better. We look forward to next year!!!!

Sharks Lose to Cardinals
July 17, 2007 --
The Baymen Sharks hosted the Ronkonkoma Cardinals at Baymen Field last Tuesday in their only regular season scheduled meeting.
The game started with a bang when Sean unloaded a low fly ball into left center looking to drop for a lead-off hit. Out of nowhere the Cardinal center fielder, Anthony Scheller, left his feet and made a spectacular back-handed catch to record the first out of the game. As with most of the game, the Cardinal defense played soundly and kept the Sharks offense off the bases while recording key outs to stop the Shark atttack.
The Cardinals opened up a 13-1 lead by the top of the fourth inning. The Sharks began their comback in the bottom of the fourth by adding 5 runs but the Cardinal offense and defense proved too much for the Sharks and they could not catch up. The game ended in a loss for the Sharks, 16-8.
There were many great plays and hits from both teams in this game. Mickey and David hit mammoth shots and Brandon made am unbelievable catch at short.
These games are a learning experience for the Shark players. Pitching and defense are the keys to all successful teams from the 9u level all the way up to the major leagues. The Sharks will go back to the practice field and continue to work hard on defensive situations and continue to develop their pitchers to compete at this level.

Sharks Lose to Astros, 7-3
July 5, 2007 - 12:30 PM --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks headed out to Searingtown once again to take on the Long Island Astros. The first meeting was postponed due to inclement weather last week, but the weather cooperated this time and it was a very nice evening for baseball.
Both teams came out ready to play. Randy started on the mound for the Sharks and pitched 4 strong innings and was relieved by Thomas in the fifth inning. Thomas finished the game but the Shark defense was not as sharp as it has been in the past. A couple of mental mistakes and errors cost the team several runs and the Sharks now realize that mistakes are now costly at this level.
Overall there were many positive moments in this game and the Sharks will now concentrate on defensive situations and team strategy.

Sharks lose Tough Game to LI Yankees
June 25, 2007 - 10:40 PM --
Baymen Park, Ronkonkoma, N.Y.
The Long Island Baymen Sharks lost a tough game with the experienced Long Island Yankees Monday night at Baymen Park, 6-2. Strong Pitching perfomances on both sides were the hi-lites of this game. Marc W. was superb in his first start of the Summer Season going 4 strong innings, making some nice plays in the field and allowing only 3 earned runs. Thomas B. finished the game with 2 strong innings allowing only 1 run while making a nice play on a weak ground ball towards first and taking it himself. There were many fine defensive plays throughout the game including a relay from David in right field hitting Andrew at the cut-off and Andrew nailing the runner at third on a fine tag by Matthew. Mickey also made some very nice plays at first base with some very good hustle throughout the game. The Sharks were unable to take advantage of some offensive opportunites late in the game, but learned a great deal from another well schooled Team. Overall the coaching staff is very pleased with the teams attitude, effort and good sportsmanship displayed on the ball field in a very tough division.
The Sharks record is now 1-2 and will take on the Long Island Astros on Thursday.

Sharks Split with Hawks in Season Opener
June 24, 2007 - 11:05 PM --
The Long island Baymen Sharks ventured into new unchartered waters Saturday hosting a very feisty Huntington Hawk team in the 9u American division of the NJBL at Baymen Park. This is a "step-Up" for the newly formed Shark team where we will face the best 9u competition the NJBL has to offer.
The first game started out very slowly by both teams with some very good pitching on both sides. Randy held the Hawks to 1 run while the Hawk pitcher did the same. After a pitching change by the Hawk manager, the Sharks opened up an 8 run inning with some very timely hitting, very slick baserunning and took advantage of a few misplays by the Hawks. Mickey, Kyle, Marc and David had tremendous games offensively, while Bobby, our newest Shark player kept the Hawks in check by pitching 2 solid innings. Alec also made a nice contribution to the game with a 2 run double during the Shark attack. Kyle closed out the game and preserved the first Shark American League win, 11-4. This was a well played game with great hitting and solid defensive plays. Congratulations boys on a great game!
In game 2, the Huntington Hawks came out swinging hard in the first inning which left the Sharks deep in a hole and the Sharks could not recover from the Hawk attack. The Sharks battled back like they always do, but could not keep up with the solid and timely hitting by the Hawks. When the dust settled, the Hawks handed the Sharks their first loss of the Summer Season in a wild 19-10 contest. This was a very good learning experience for the Sharks. This proves that every team in the American Division are not just talented, but fighters with heart and determination. The entire Shark team would like to tip our hats to the Huntington Hawks for a great rebound and decisive win and wish them luck for the rest of the season.

Sharks Split with Ducks on a Wild Day in Commack
June 13, 2007 --
The L.I. Baymen Sharks took on the L.I. Ducks green team on a beautiful Sunday morning at the North Commack field. The Ducks were all business as they came out swinging and running the bases very well. The Sharks shoddy defense in the 1st inning along with some wicked hops, set the stage for the entire game. Already down 7-0 in the 1st inning, the Sharks chipped away inning by inning with some timely hitting, however the Duck's left-handed pitcher was pinpoint and very economical with his pitches. The Shark defense fell apart again late in the game, and when the dust settled, the Sharks were handed their 1st loss of the season with a score of 20-8. Lack of fundamentals, mental mistakes and poor focus contributed to the Shark loss. There were however some shining moments in the game when Matthew, Thomas and David all hit homeruns. Some great defensive plays were displayed by Kyle, Matthew, Thomas and Andrew. Mickey and Marc also made their pitching debut, and did a good job getting the ball over the plate.
The second game started out very slowly with some good defense in the early part of the game. The Sharks took a 4-3 lead with some good pitching from Randy. The Shark bats came alive and opened the game up to a 9-3 lead by the fourth inning. Thomas took the hill in the 4th and struck out 7 batters of the last 9 outs but did not get the support from his teammates late in the game. Several dropped balls, mental errors and unnecessary throwing the ball cost the Sharks 4 runs. Andrew gave a tremendous effort behind the plate catching 10 innings, blocking pitches and nabbing the runner from second to third on an alert play after a walk to end the 5th inning. The Sharks improved their record to 3-1 with a 14-7 victory over the Ducks.
The coaches realize that this team was only put together over the last 3 months and that this was only our 3rd & 4th game. We are extremely pleased with the results so far, however we need to focus on key defensive situations, utilize what we have worked on in practice and be more selective at the plate. We are still learning to play together as a team and we are confident that the team will play to their ability that is displayed on the practice field. We are now focused on putting this game behind us and are preparing to take on the Longwood Lions this Saturday.

Sharks Split with Destroyers
June 13, 2007 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks once again hit the road this time into Garden City, Nassau County, to take on the Garden City Destroyers Friday afternoon for a twi-night double header. The Garden City Destroyers took the field and were all business from the first pitch on. The GC pitcher was quick and deliberate with his delivery and caught several Shark batters not ready at the plate. The Shark batters were very aggressive and swung at many first pitches, and did not give the Destroyer pitcher time to tire.
Randy started the game and pitched well but the Shark defense did not make an appearance during this game. The Destroyers took advantage of many misplays, errors and extra outs. The Destroyer defense was spectacular, especially the pitcher, shortstop and centerfielder making some incredible plays keeping the Sharks off the bases. Marc relieved Randy and pitched well in his 1 2/3 innings. The Destroyer pitcher was very confident late in the game and continued to throw well for a complete game victory, 4-1, handing the Sharks their second loss of the year.
In the second game under the lights, the Sharks came out ready to play. Sean took the hill and pitched very well keeping the Destroyers off the bases throwing strikes. The Shark offense came alive in the second and third inning with a very bizarre play in the third. With runners on first & second and no outs, Matthew stepped up to the plate. Down to his last strike, the pitcher delivered the ball and as soon as Matthew made contact, the lights went out. Play continued because the ball was visible and it was not entirely dark. Matthew made it to third with the help of some GC errors. Play was halted for about a half hour and continued with the Sharks scoring 7 runs and taking a 8-0 lead. The Sharks eventually scored 4 more runs and the game was ended after 4 innings, 12-0.
After 12 games this season, the Sharks now have won 10 of them. The coaching staff is extremely pleased with the results so far, and have been impressed with the teams ability to bounce back and play well. We will continue to work together as a team and correct key defensive situations along with offensive strategies at the plate and on the bases.
We would like to thank the Garden City Destroyer coaching staff team for a well played game. The Sharks are now looking forward to their first home game Sunday, June 3, against the Three Village Yankees.

Twin Killing in Glen Cove
June 11, 2007 --
The (5-1) Long Island Baymen Sharks battled the (5-1) Glen Cove Mets in Glen Cove and won both games on a cold and windy Sunday Morning. Both teams did their best despite the high winds and dust/dirt blowing around where play had to be halted on several occasions throughout the double header.
In the first game the Mets came out swinging and pushed 4 runs across the board in the first inning and put the Sharks in a hole early. The Sharks gnawed their way back to make it a 4-3 game but the relentless Mets increased their lead to 7-3. The Sharks then exploded with a 7 run rally capped by a three-run home run by Andrew making the score 10-7. The Sharks added one more in the Sixth to make it 11-7. Marc had entered the game in the fifth and closed the game out shutting down the Mets and preserving the 11-7 victory.
The second game was a game for the ages. Both teams hit hard, were hit hard and played hard resulting in several bumps and bruises on both sides. Andrew was hit twice and hobbled down to first on both occasions. Mickey took a shot to the elbow but was removed for a pinch runner. Matthew, David and Brandon all took shots to the body while sliding into second base. While this was happening, both teams were unloading on each other like a Heavyweight Championship fight. Both teams were up against the ropes and were almost counted out but somehow managed to make it back to their corners for ice & water. In the bottom of the fifth, with the score tied 11-11, the Sharks pushed two more runs across the plate and went into the top of the sixth, 13-11. The well schooled Mets, disciplined at the plate and full of heart, managed to score five more runs to take a 16-13 lead. At this point in the game, the Shark coaching staff could only laugh at what an unbelievable game this turned out to be. But it wasn’t over yet. With one out in the bottom the sixth, David singled and Kyle followed with a bomb to left center resulting in a 2-run Home run cutting the lead “down” to 16-15. Sean followed with a bloop single to right, misplayed by the right fielder, and made it all the way to third. Still one out and a runner on third, Thomas stepped up to the plate and blasted a hard line-drive to the gap in left center and crossed the plate without a play giving the Sharks a dramatic walk off home run and come from behind victory, 17-16.
There were so many exciting plays from both teams in this game. Kyle kept us in the game by making 2 great catches in center field, one with 2 outs and the bases loaded. Matthew made a nice catch on pop foul off of third. Brandon made some great plays at short. Offensively David had a great game with an exciting home run. The Mets pitcher, shortstop and right fielder made some great plays on some hard hit balls as well.
The Shark coaching staff would like to thank the Glen Cove team, coaches and families for a great day of baseball. The Sharks now improve their record to 7-1 and have won all games on the road. We are extremely proud of the boys for their hard work on the practice field and in the games. We will now be preparing for the Three Village Yankees White on 5/20. We would also like to wish all the moms a Happy Mother’s day this Sunday!

Sharks Sweep Bulls in Season Finale
June 10, 2007 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks completed the "Official" season on Saturday, June 9th, by sweeping the Long Island Bulls, 18-1 & 9-3 at Baymen Field. These 2 games did not count in the standings for the Sharks, but did count in the standings for the Bulls. The Sharks finish the season winning 14 games and losing 2, and were able to beat every team in the division at least once.
These 2 games were handled as "experimental" and many players played different positions for the first time.
In the first game Kyle took the hill and pitched 3 outstanding innings. David made his debut on the mound in the 4th and kept the Bulls batters hitless, but the Bulls managed to score 1 run on a error, 2 walks and a ground out. The ball was then handed to Matthew to close out the game and in 13 pitches, the game was over and the Long Island Baymen Sharks completed the first ever no-hit contest in Shark History. Congratualtions to Kyle, David & Matthew on this historic feat!
David led the hit parade with 2 triples and a single and the rest of the team did a fine job getting the bat on the ball. Danny reached base 4 times and Alec made a nice play at second base stopping the ball and not giving up in getting the runner at first.
In the second game Andrew made his pitching debut, holding the Bulls to 1 run and striking out 4 in 2 innings of work. Thomas took over in the third, fourth & fifth, and only allowed 1 run while stiking out 4. Mickey got the call for the Sixth and gave up 1 run, striking out 2 batters and made the final out of the game on a come-backer and tossing a strike to first to end the game, 9-3.
Outstanding plays in the game came from Sean throwing a bullet from third to first in the first inning and nailing the runner by half a step and Randy throwing a strike from centerfield to Brandon at the plate and cutting down the sliding runner for the first out of the fifth inning.
Brandon led the team with 3 hits while Sean, Andrew, Thomas and Kyle added 2 hits each.
Everyone contributed to these 2 games and the players enjoyed playing different postions for the first time. The Sharks will now prepare for their upcoming Summer Season in the NJBL American Division.

Sharks Clinch Spring Division Title!
June 4, 2007 - 09:10 PM --
The 2007 Long Island Baymen Sharks 9U journey started out in December ’06 with two coaches and two players. At the end of February, the Sharks finalized their roster. Three months later, after hard work, dedication and total team/parent commitment, the Sharks took home the title of the NJBL 9u National Division Spring Champions.
And it wasn’t easy.
While most teams were already established and completed their rosters at the end of the fall, the Sharks took on the daunting task of finding 13 kids who were ready to take on the next level of baseball in the middle of the winter. With a rookie travel manager and rookie travel coach, and more than half of the team without travel experience, the long hours of practice began indoors and eventually outdoors. The focus of practice was simple. Stress the importance of mechanics and fundamentals.
With practice behind us, the Sharks took the field against the New York Knights. The parents and coaches held their breaths, and kept their fingers crossed. After the first inning, everyone uncrossed their fingers, breathed a sigh of relief and realized that the long hours of practice paid off as the kids executed the plays and understood what was being taught in the off season and brought it to the game.
Seven weeks later the 10-2 Sharks took on the 9-1 Three Village Yankee team for their first home double-header this season. While the teams were warming up, the stands were filling up with parents, grandparents, friends, relatives and coaches from other teams. The atmosphere suddenly changed from a normal weekend double header to that of a “Championship” game. However, this was not a championship game, but rather two teams playing with good records.
The Three Village Yankee team struck first by scoring 1 run in the first inning. Marc started the game on the hill and did a nice job getting out of a 1 out bases loaded situation. The Three Village Yankee pitcher did a nice job keeping the Sharks in check but eventually was removed. The Shark attack then began with an 8 run third inning. The Yankees did not give up as they fought back and scored 5 runs in the ensuing inning. With the score now at 8-6, the Sharks exploded once again for 9 more runs increasing the lead to 17-6. During this time Randy came in to pitch and was efficient in shutting down the Yankees and setting up Kyle for his closing debut. Kyle did just that, and closed the game for the Sharks giving us our eleventh win of the year.
In the second game Sean took the hill and was impressive in controlling the Yankee hitters and keeping them off the bases. Defense was the key to this games victory. Marc made 2 amazing catches back-to-back with the second being a run saving diving catch to his left. David made an outstanding stop at first, pouncing on the ball and outracing the Yankee runner for a bang-bang out. The best defensive play came with a runner on first base and no one out. Sean took the comeback off the right of the mound. Without missing a beat fired a strike to Brandon who caught the ball at second, kicked the bag and fired to first just missing the Yankee runner by half a step. Truly an amazing feat, just missing the team’s first legitimate double play. Thomas took over in the fifth inning and finished the game that ended in a 9-4 victory, giving the Sharks their twelfth victory of the season.
In sweeping the Yankees, the Sharks took home the title of Division Champs by closing the season with a 12-2 record and 12 games being played on the road. The Sharks are scheduled to play the Smithtown Bulls this weekend, but the games will not count in the Sharks standings due to the Sharks already completing 14 games.
There are many people to thank for this incredible season. This truly was a team/family effort. First, the kids. An amazing group of kids who love to play the game and made it fun for everyone to watch. Second, the parents. A great group of parents who stood behind the coaches throughout the season and gave their kids the opportunity to improve through lessons and clinics. A big thanks to Terri & Maria for putting up with the coaches late night phone calls, crazy antics, and sleepless nights. Thanks to Tony for your help with the kids, the line-up and practices. A big, big thanks goes out to T.J. & Nick for keeping the scorecard and pitch-count. A special thanks goes out to Tommy for your time, knowledge and guidance. Thanks to all the Grandparents, friends and relatives who supported the team throughout the year. Thanks to manager Tom Brown who took the risk and initial step in forming this team. We look forward to our next season and the challenges that lie ahead of us.
By practicing and playing these games together, the boys not only have connected as a team, but have gained great respect for each other on and off the field.
Congratulations to the 9u Long Island Baymen Sharks Spring Champions!

Sharks Win Two Over Yankees
May 21, 2007 --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks hit the road once again and headed up to Stony Brook to take on the Three Village Yankees White team this past Sunday morning. The sky was overcast with a few sprinkles in the air, but the weather was favorable for both teams.
Game one started with the Sharks batting first where scoring opportunities were squandered in both the first & second inning. Randy started on the mound and was effective through the first 2 innings. The Three Village Yankee pitcher was very pinpoint and his fastball was one of the best we’ve seen to date. The Shark bats finally came alive led by David’s mammoth shot to right center that ricocheted off the 180 ft sign up high on the fence missing a home run by a few feet. This sent the Yankee outfield on an all out sprint. David scampered around second and slid in safely at third for a triple. Triples seemed to be on the mind of the Shark’s middle line up where Marc, Matthew and Mickey (the M, M & M boys) all tripled followed by another triple from David. This forced the Yankee players to set up an exaggerated deep outfield where the Sharks took advantage by 2 hits each from Matthew, Marc & Sean. Thomas and Andrew also singled during this Shark fest.
The real story here wasn’t the offense but the defense. David made some incredible catches out in right field and Kyle made of couple of difficult catches himself in center that he made look easy. Although the hits were coming, they were coming at the wrong time. The sharks managed to score six runs, but the lack of timely hitting cost them several runs. Marc took over in relief in the 4th inning and did a nice job holding the Yankees to just 2 runs entering the bottom of the sixth inning. The pesky Yankees would not give up and scored 2 more runs inching there way closer and sensing a come from behind victory. A single ties the game. An extra base hit wins it. With the bases loaded, 2 outs and the count 3-2, Marc fastened his seat belt one more notch and delivered a called third strike on his 70th pitch. Game over. Sharks win 6-4. The Sharks improve their record to 8-1, with all wins on the road.
Game 2 may have been the best game the Sharks have played to date. Pitching, defense and timely hits were the key to this game. Sean took the hill and retired the first 12 batters he faced. Timely hits by David, Kyle and Sean and aggressive base running put the Sharks ahead early in the game. Sean would give up his only hit in the fifth inning when a Yankee batter blooped a fly ball to right center. Kyle raced to the ball and made an incredible effort leaving his feet, completely outstretched, but came up short as the ball bounced in front of him. More importantly, Kyle bounced back up, threw to second and kept the Yankee runner at first base. The runner advanced on a straight steal on next pitch and on the following pitch raced to third. Thomas, making his Shark debut behind the plate, fired a strike to Randy at third who slapped the tag down on the runner, prompting the umpire to shout an emphatic call for the second out of the inning. Sean retired the next batter and entered the sixth inning with a 5-0 lead.
After walking a batter and reaching his 70th pitch, Sean was replaced and received a loud ovation from both teams on his pitching performance. Thomas took over in the closer role and retired the final two batters to preserve the first shut out in Shark history.
This was another team effort where Danny, David, Randy, Andrew and Thomas made nice defensive plays. The Sharks improve their record to 9-1 and will prepare for a Friday night double-header against the Garden City Destroyers, May 25.
The Shark coaching staff would like to thank the Three Village Yankee team and coaching staff for a pleasant game and good sportsmanship. Several Yankee players congratulated Shark players on nice hits. The Sharks returned the favor. We look forward to playing the Three Village Yankees White team and Coach Mongiovi in the future.

Sharks Sweep Lions in Coram
April 29, 2007 - 04:55 PM --
The Long Island Baymen Sharks took on the Longwood Lions on an overcast morning at the "Diamond on the Pines" in Coram this past Saturday. In the first game the Lions struck first by scoring 2 runs in the first inning on some timely hits and good base running. Andrew drove in the first run for the Sharks on a ground out to second and added 3 more runs in the 3rd with a bases loaded 2 out double in the gap in right center. The Sharks then exploded in the 4th inning with a double by Kyle and timley hitting from Sean, Mickey, and Randy capped with a 3 run Home Run by Matthew to end the game in the 4th with the score of 16-2. Sean S. pitched an excellent game striking out 7 batters giving up 3 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.
The second game Marc came out pitching with a purpose as he held the Lions to 3 runs in his 2 innings pitched. A couple of poor defensive plays and mental mistakes cost the Sharks a couple of runs in the first few innings. Thomas took over in the 3rd and kept the the Lions in check by striking out the side in both the 4th and 5th inning. Things got interesting in the bottom of the 6th inning with the Sharks ahead 6-3 and Thomas closing in on the pitch count. Thomas struck out his final batter but had to be pulled due to the pitch count. With runners on 2nd & 3rd and 2 outs, Randy got the the nod to close the game. The first batter hit a clean single to left to score the the 2 runners on base, but more importantly, the Shark's defense kept the tieing run at first. Randy promptly struck the next batter out and preseverd the game ending 6-5 in favor of the Sharks. Sean caught a beautiful game behind the plate. Kyle made a nice defensive play in center nailing a runner at second base and Thomas, Sean and Randy all had 2 hits each for the Sharks.

Sharks sweep Knights in Season Opener
April 7, 2007 --
The L.I. Baymen Sharks came out swinging and running during their season opener against a tough New York Knights. Both teams were up against frigid temperatures in this winter like opening day. Both teams came out ready to play. Sean S. pitched 4 shut out innings and helped himself get out of trouble with a bases loaded no out situation. The bats came alive for the Sharks early as each player contributed with hits, walks and stolen bases. The Sharks took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning and added 2 more in the second. The offense turned it up when the game exploded to a 11-0 lead in the 5th. Matthew came in to close out the game and held the knights to 4 runs in 2 innings with a final score of 15-4.
Game 2: The Sharks continued to swing the bats and ran off the bases early. Every player put the bat on the ball at least once against a very good Knights pitcher. The players applied what they had learned in the off season and took control of the game by scoring 10 runs in a two out situation to end the game in the 4th with a 13-1 victory. The coaches are extremely proud of each of the players for their solid defense and aggresive offense in their first game together as a team. The Sharks would like to thank the NY Knights coaching staff for their courteous and professional conduct on and off the field. Keep up the great work boys. We are so proud of you!!!!

Shark Arms Getting Stronger
February 25, 2007 --
For the past several weeks, 7 out of our 12 players have been attending a pitching/throwing mechanics clinic on Sunday afternoons. The boys are getting the benefit of working with L.I. Ducks pitcher Tim Cain. They have learned to fine tune their pitching techniques as well as learning defensive skills while on the mound. In addition to these players, 2 of our other players are currently taking private pitching lessons with Neil Heaton and Scott June. The coaches are pleased with the progress the players have made thus far. They are thrilled with their enthusiasm and motivation to learn. They are looking forward to getting on the field to apply all that they have learned during their winter training sessions. Keep up the good work Sharks!!!!!!!
