Coaches Code of Conduct
Coaches will abide by the rules of the sport as published by the Ohio High School Athletic Association in addition to the Optimist League Rules.
Coaches shall not engage in any extensive physical contact with players. Mandatory penalty: if the mini-board determines that a potential for injury was present, the coach must be suspended permanently. Otherwise on the first offense, the coach will be suspended for one game. If the offense takes place during or after the last game of the season, the penalty will apply to the first game of the next season. On the second offense, the coach will be permanently suspended.
Coaches must not try to seek an advantage by circumvention of the spirit or letter of the rules.
Coaches shall not use foul or abusive language.
Coaches shall refrain from using any tobacco products such as cigarettes, pipes, chewing tobacco or smokeless tobacco during practice, game and at all league functions.
Coaches shall not pull their teams off the field or court as a form of protest. Mandatory penalty: the head coach will leave the premises and will be suspended for the remainder of the season. If the offense takes place during the last game of the season, the penalty shall apply to the first game of the next season.
Coaches shall not give players instructions that are contrary to the rules.
Coaches will address the officials in a proper and courteous manner.
Coaches will be responsible for the conduct of their players and fans.
Coaches ejected from a game will be subject to a mandatory penalty. Due to the nature of this league (youth football) and what we are trying to teach our youth (good sportsmanship, on and off the field), we will practice ZERO TOLERANCE; that is, a coach or assistant coach ejected from a game will be suspended from coaching for the remainder of the season and the entire next season. They must sit out the entire next season before they are eligible to apply for reinstatement.
Coaches must fulfill their obligations to the Hilliard Optimist Club, such as field clean-up.
Coaches will sign a coaching agreement, verifying that this code has been read and understood.
NO ONE MAY COACH OR PARTICIPATE IN ANY LEAGUE EVENT UNTIL HE/SHE HAS SIGNED THE COACHING AGREEMENT.
Any items in the conduct code that do not stipulate a mandatory penalty, will carry up to a one game suspension; to be decided by the mini board. If the violation occurs during the last game of the season, the penalty shall apply to the first game of the following season.
