    'Chucks Sign Four Big Hitters

    May 21, 2009
WAUSAU, WI – The Wisconsin Woodchucks added some power to their roster with the signing of four players who will look to make an impact at the plate. Tyler Horne, Jeremy Richter, and Chad Wright will be making their debuts for the ‘Chucks while Northwoods League All-Star Troy Frazier will return for his second summer.

Tennessee junior Tyler Horne will be competing at the hot corner for the ‘Chucks this summer. The 6’2” 200 pound third baseman started 37 games and hit 10 home runs in his first season with the Volunteers. In 58 games with Shelton State Community College in 2008, Horne batted .335 with 79 RBIs. He also led the Bucs to back-to-back Alabama Junior College State Championships.

Jeremy Richter, a 6’2” 220 pound first baseman, displayed his impressive power this spring at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The junior was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year after racking up 61 hits, 17 doubles, and a .607 slugging percentage. Richter transferred from Madison Area Technical College where he was an all-conference, all-region, and all-district player in 2008.

Kentucky freshman Chad Wright had a big debut season with the Wildcats. The 5’10” 180 pound outfielder joins his teammate Troy Frazier this summer after hitting .330 and scoring 37 runs in his freshman campaign. Wright was a two-time all-state performer at Heath High School. He holds school records for stolen bases in a season, career stolen bases, and career triples.

Troy Frazier returns for his second stint with the ‘Chucks after leading the team with eight home runs last season. He finished just one home run shy of taking home the 2008 NWL All-Star Home Run Derby crown. Frazier also tallied 10 doubles and 32 RBIs while slugging .543 last summer. The 6’1” 205 pound outfielder has made 51 starts in two seasons at Kentucky where he has tallied 38 RBIs. He was also a two-time all-state performer in high school.

The Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the country. Baseball America named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country. The Woodchucks 2009 home opener is Friday, May 29th as they take on the Eau Claire Express. For group outing / ticket information contact the Woodchucks office at 715-845-5055 or visit the Woodchucks website at www.woodchucks.com.
