'Chucks Sign Four Big Hitters

WAUSAU, WI – The Wisconsin Woodchucks added some power to their roster with the signing of four players who will look to make an impact at the plate. Tyler Horne, Jeremy Richter, and Chad Wright will be making their debuts for the ‘Chucks while Northwoods League All-Star Troy Frazier will return for his second summer.
Tennessee junior Tyler Horne will be competing at the hot corner for the ‘Chucks this summer. The 6’2” 200 pound third baseman started 37 games and hit 10 home runs in his first season with the Volunteers. In 58 games with Shelton State Community College in 2008, Horne batted .335 with 79 RBIs. He also led the Bucs to back-to-back Alabama Junior College State Championships.
Jeremy Richter, a 6’2” 220 pound first baseman, displayed his impressive power this spring at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The junior was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year after racking up 61 hits, 17 doubles, and a .607 slugging percentage. Richter transferred from Madison Area Technical College where he was an all-conference, all-region, and all-district player in 2008.
Kentucky freshman Chad Wright had a big debut season with the Wildcats. The 5’10” 180 pound outfielder joins his teammate Troy Frazier this summer after hitting .330 and scoring 37 runs in his freshman campaign. Wright was a two-time all-state performer at Heath High School. He holds school records for stolen bases in a season, career stolen bases, and career triples.
Troy Frazier returns for his second stint with the ‘Chucks after leading the team with eight home runs last season. He finished just one home run shy of taking home the 2008 NWL All-Star Home Run Derby crown. Frazier also tallied 10 doubles and 32 RBIs while slugging .543 last summer. The 6’1” 205 pound outfielder has made 51 starts in two seasons at Kentucky where he has tallied 38 RBIs. He was also a two-time all-state performer in high school.
The Wisconsin Woodchucks are a member of the Northwoods League, a college wood bat summer league featuring players from across the country. Baseball America named the Northwoods League as one of the premier summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country. SPASH Graduate Cullen Sexton Signs with 'Chucks

WAUSAU, WI – The Wisconsin Woodchucks have announced the signing of Cullen Sexton, a 2007 graduate of Stevens Point Area Senior High. Sexton is currently a relief pitcher for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers (13-6).
A native of Plover, Wisconsin, Sexton is in his sophomore season at Minnesota. He carries a 4-0 record and a 2.45 ERA thru seven appearances this spring. The 6’3” righty is one of the top relievers in the Gophers bullpen, striking out 12 hitters in 14.2 innings pitched. Sexton was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week on March 2nd. During that week he pitched 4.1 scoreless innings and picked up a win and a save. He is teammates with Gophers starting outfielder Matt Nohelty, who played for the Woodchucks during the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
During his time at SPASH, Sexton was named All-Conference in the Wisconsin Valley as a junior and senior and led the Panthers to three straight conference championships.

Wey-Mont adds team to South-Central Division
SCANDINAVIA, WI - In a unanimous managers vote at the first league meeting of the year, the Wey-Mont Whitebass were accepted into the South-Central Division of the BABA. Wey-mont has not fielded a team since 2005. The addition of the Whitebass makes a total of 8 teams in the SouthCentral.
