SENIOR RECOGNITION NIGHT

112th MEETING RADNOR vs. LOWER MERION SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2008
VICTORY!!!!!!!
RADNOR WINS 112TH!! CLASS OF 2009 SWEEPS LM!! Raiders 35 - Aces 28
All
the armchair Andy Reid wanna-be’s out there had to love this one. If
you’re Radnor . . . your leading rusher is feeling punky all week and
hasn’t practiced, what's the game plan now? . . . . your ball on LM’s
6, 5 ticks before half- take the sure 3 or try to bury LM by going for
the TD? . . . . go for the bomb or stay with ball control? If you’re LM
. . . how do you fire up your kids when half think their nickname is
“Aces” and the other half think it’s “Bulldogs”? . . . . how many times
do you go to the well with an onside kick? . . . . .how do you try to
go 98 yards with 2:09 to play and no timeouts? Say what you want-
LM was undermanned, the home field advantage was taken away by the
presence of our fans and band, but they stood firm and Cubby coached
his butt off in this one and nearly pulled it off.
The
game had it’s share of memorable moments- “TD” McCurdy going to the
house (again!!!), Tika’s first Varsity TD, Webster’s bone crunching
hits that caused Vinnie’s interception run for a TD and Andersen’s game
ending interception, the combination of Watt’s booming punt and Harris’
hustle to down it at the 2, and Coach Ryan’s baptism, but all present
shall not soon forget the look of elation on the faces of our boys and
their coaches after an exhilarating win. The team, coaches and fans
have been through a lot this season, so we all deserved this one! -

From Coach Ryan - 2008 Letter
2008 Radnor Football Season
To Our Loyal Raider Fans:
Every football season brings with it a sense of optimism and purpose. All of us associated with Radnor football both on the field and off, have reason for both as we enter the 2008 season, and we look forward to being a force to be reckoned with in the Central League.
Regardless of the level of football being played, commitment is the key to any successful season. Throughout our off season, the signs of commitment were visible throughout the community. Nowhere was this support more notable than the Prevost Field playing surface project. The off season was filled with many hours of planning meetings, public discourse and fund raising, all culminating in the completion of a project that will be the pride of Radnor for many years to come. I am truly appreciative of all the work done by the Turf’s Up! Committee, the Radnor Township School District, Radnor Township, and the contributors to the project. It is truly gratifying as a coach to be involved with a community that is so passionate about the quality of life of it’s residents and the caliber of it’s facilities, and both are second to none.
The Central League is recognized as one of the most competitive leagues in Pennsylvania, and we are poised to improve upon our results of prior seasons. We return a core group of experienced players on both sides of the ball, led by team captains Tyler Andersen, Max Lucki, Danny Schmader, and Richard Yespelkis. Throughout the off season workouts, these players set an example of commitment for their teammates on and off the field, and are ready to leave their mark on Radnor football in their senior season. Many returning players from last year’s team will see action this year, and will mix with several players from last years’ Junior Varsity and very successful Freshman squads who will move up to Varsity status. All of our players have a year of familiarity with the terminology and schemes of our playbook. The combination of experience and athleticism is expected to result in a successful season.
Let’s make every game a sellout, and be loud and proud of our commitment to Radnor football!
LET’S GO RAIDERS!!!

From the Booster Club - 2008 Season
To All Fans of Radnor Football (2008 Season):
“OUR NEW LOOK”
The opening of the 2008 football season brings with it two noticeable changes.
First and foremost is the installation of a new all- season synthetic playing surface and renovation of the track on Prevost Field. The completion of this project truly represents all that makes Radnor a vibrant community. Another unique public and private sector collaboration resulted in an amenity that will be used by a wide range of high school, youth and recreational sports programs for many seasons to come. All of us who call Radnor home can be justifiably proud of not only our new field, but also the efforts of all the members of the Turf’s Up! Committee, the Radnor Township School Board, the Radnor Township Board of Commissioners, the Radnor Educational Foundation and each and every individual donor. Without their collective vision, diligence and generosity this project would not have become a reality.
The entry of Garnet Valley High School and Harriton High School into the Central League and the resultant expansion of the football schedule represents the second change. After many years of competition in the Del Val League, each school has elected to change league affiliations. We warmly welcome these outstanding schools and their student athletes into the league, and look forward to many seasons of good sportsmanship, competition, camaraderie, respect for teammates and opponents, and an appreciation of the traditions that make the Central League one of Pennsylvania’s premier sports conferences.
I encourage you to support all of the fund raising and spirit building efforts of the Booster Club and to patronize the local merchants whose advertisements you find in this program.
Head Coach Tom Ryan and his dedicated coaching staff are preparing our Raiders for what promises to be another hard fought Central League campaign. Please plan on being part of the excitement on our new look Prevost Field this season by joining your family, friends, and neighbors at the games.
LET’S GO RAIDERS!!!

Game Recaps /Delco Football Coaches Association - Weekly Awards
Haverford 31 - Radnor 7
Pergolese right, Perolese left, Pergolese up the middle. We knew it was coming but just couldn’t stop Delaware County’s leading rusher. Familar story for the Raiders. . . . .hang in there for a quarter or so, one mistake leads to loss of focus, and the seniors final game on Prevost game turns from a taunt 10-7 contest into a 31-7 spanking. Next up is Springfield, where the Raiders look to make it a Nightmare on West Leamy Street for the Cougars.
The Delaware County Football Coaches Association awarded Honorable Mention status to wide receiver John Coleman and defensive back Tyler Andersen (yes, d back) for their performances against Haverford High. Way to go, guys!
Delco Leaders: After 9 weeks of football, Raiders Tyler Andersen and John Coleman remain among the county’s top players at their respective positions. Andersen’s 675 yards passing and 3 TD’s ranks him10th among the QB’s and Coleman’s 24 receptions for 292 yards and 3 TD’s ranks him 5th among the receivers. Keep up the good work guys.
Radnor 0 - Garnet Valley 39 Gotta face facts here. . . .coming into last Friday’s game, thanks to total offense of 341 yards per game and total defense of 183 yards per game, Garnet Valley’s team boasted rankings of #7 in Pennsylvania, #3 in Philadelphia, and #1 in Delco. Mix in a raucous home crowd for Homecoming / Senior Recognition, every kid in the program in uniform and on the GV sidelines, and an opening series miscue, and you get a 39-0 loss. Despite the score, our kids showed attitude against a Class AAAA finalist. Let’s see some of that ‘tude next game! - BSchmader
The Delaware County Football Coaches Association awarded Honorable Mention status to linebackers Richard Yespelkis and Dan Webster and Bomb Squader Scott Harris for their performances against Garnet Valley. Nice game, guys!
Delco Leaders: After 8 weeks of football, Raiders John Coleman and Ian Watts continue to hold their spots among the county’s top players at their respective positions. Coleman’s 19 receptions for 231 yards and 3 TD’s ranks him 10th among the receivers, and Watts’ 2 field goals and 13 extra points ranks him 5th among the kickers. Keep up the good work guys.
Raiders 7- Strath Haven 28 Central League Football 101 . . . Each team gets 50-55 offensive plays per game. Half run, half pass? Wrong, Bronco Nagurski breath! In the Central, 75% run / 25% pass counts as balance. Yards per carry differential > 3, positive takeway/ giveaway ratio, go easy on the penalties, limit special teams breakdowns, and tackle, tackle, tackle, and you come away a winner more times than not. Over the years, no one has done it consistently better than Strath Haven, and they showed why they are a perennial Class AAA playoff contender on Saturday night as they beat the Raiders 28-7. No one likes to lose, but you have to admire the Panthers- focus on one game at a time, come prepared, do your job, praise the opponent, get on the bus and go home. Methodical, proficient, and classy. -BSchmader
Delco Leaders: After 7 weeks of football, Raiders Tyler Andersen, John Coleman and Ian Watts continue to be among the county’s top players at their respective positions. Andersen’s 44.6% completion percentage and 529 yards passing ranks him 9th among the QB’s. Coleman’s 18 receptions for 227 yards and 3 TD’s ranks him 9th among the receivers, and Watts’ 2 field goals and 13 extra points ranks him 4th among the kickers. Keep up the good work guys.
The Delaware County Football Coaches Association awarded Honorable Mention status to kicker Ian Watts for his performance against Strath Haven. This is the 2nd time this season that Ian has been recognized by the Delco coaches. Way to go Ian!
The Junior and Freshman Raiders stay on a roll, with both teams winning again this week. Rookies are 2-1 on the season so far, and JV is 4-2. Keep up the good work guys.
Marple Newtown 24 - Radnor 7 (October 3, 2008)
The Tigers spoil Homecoming, smack Raiders 24-7. Our boys just couldn't recover from an early turnover and succumbed to Marple's running game. Things don't get easier this week as the Raiders take on Lonnie Richardson and Strath Haven, another rugged Central League foe. Strath Haven will come to play, so the Raiders need to be ready to go from the minute they break through the banner. Let's give 'em a battle! - BSchmader
The Delaware County Football Coaches Association awarded Honorable Mention status to linebacker Scott Clay for his fine play against Marple Newtown.
Delco Leaders: At the season’s halfway point, Raiders Tyler Andersen, John Coleman and Ian Watts continue to be among the county’s top players at their respective positions. Andersen’s 45.7% completion percentage and 478 yards passing ranks him 10th among the QB’s. Coleman’s 15 receptions for 203 yards and 2 TD’s ranks him 8th among the receivers, and Watts’ 2 field goals and 12 extra points ranks him 4th among the kickers. Keep up the good work guys.
Congratulations to the Junior Raiders on their 20-14 win over Penncrest (October 1st). Down 14 – nil, the boys came back with 3 TD’s to take their 2nd victory of the season. Nice game guys!
Penncrest 41 - Radnor 7 (September 26, 2008)
Our Raiders came out strong against a very talented Penncrest squad, marching methodically down the field on their first possession to take a 7-0 lead. Penncrest did their homework though . . . offensively, they changed from previous game tactics to take it to us through the air, and defensively they were well prepared for our run centric attack, holding the Raiders to their lowest rushing total this season. Nobody said that the Central League would be easy!
Delco Leaders: Through 5 weeks of the season, Raiders Tyler Andersen, John Coleman and Ian Watts are among the county’s top players at their respective positions. Andersen’s 46.4% completion percentage and 435 yards passing ranks him 6th among the QB’s. Coleman’s 14 receptions for 197 yards and 2 TD’s ranks him 3rd among the receivers, and Watts’ 2 field goals and 11 extra points ranks him 3rd among the kickers. We’re looking for these guys to add to their stats on Friday against Marple Newtown in a big time grudge game. -BSchmader
Harriton 13 - Radnor 35 (September 19, 2008)
Raiders get off the schneide, smoke Harriton 35-13 for their first win of the season. The story of the game was the Raiders offense, which amassed 476 total yards (the most in the Central League this week) against an undermanned but determined team. Thanks to the efforts of “Bonner’s Bulldozers”- tight ends Kurtyka and Clay, tackles McGrath and Knight, guards Schmader and Snow, and centers Middendorf and DiCocco, this year’s team gives up very few QB sacks, provides disciplined blocking, and is opening holes for our running backs. Keep moving the pile boys! - BSchmader
Based on their solid efforts, the Raiders were well represented in the Delaware County Football Coaches Association Weekly Awards. Most Valuable Player Awards went to Offensive Lineman Dan Schmader and Defensive Back Corey Dunson. Honorable Mention Awards went to QB Tyler Andersen, Running Backs Vinnie Caniglia and Derrick Adger, Wide Receiver John Coleman, Offensive Lineman Gabe Snow, Defensive Lineman Richard Yespelkis, and kicker Ian Watts.
