IN-TOWN RECREATION FALL SEASON QUESTIONS

Q. How can I register my child for the Fall Season?
A. For the convenience of our loyal families, registration for participants of the Fort Lee Soccer League will be conducted via online registration on www.fortleesoccer.com. The beginning and ending date will be announced on our home page.  Outside town players are also welcomed.  Early Registration will be opened to the public early Spring for the ensuing Fall season.   

Q. If I missed the fall registration, what should I do?
A. Please send an e-mail to the board at boardmembers@fortleesoccer.com indicating your name, your daytime phone number, your child’s name and your child’s date of birth. Your child will be placed on a waiting list and potentially placed on a team as openings make themselves available.   

Q. Why is registration held so far in advance of the fall season?
A. Organizing a youth program of approximately 500 plus boys and girls is a monumental task.   These tasks include the formation of both Rec and Travel teams, order uniforms and soccer supplies, establish training times and game schedules and much more..

Q. Once I register, what equipment do I need to purchase?
A.· Soccer cleats (which are sold at almost every sporting goods stores).
   · Black shorts (that do not exceed the length of the players kneecap).
   · Soccer socks (preferably white, which should go up to the players kneecap).
   · Shin guards
   · A soccer ball to bring to practice.

Q. What is the correct size ball for my child’s age division?
A.· Size 3 ball for Pee Wee Division (Under 6 Division)
   · Size 4 ball for Freshman Division (Under 8 Division), Sophomore Division (Under 10 Division), and Girls Junior/Senior Division.
   · Size 5 ball for Boys Junior/Senior Division (U14 Division)

Q. When and where are in-town games usually played and at what times?
A. Games are played on Saturday’s lasting approximately one hour with an adjustment to Sundays only as a result of holiday observance or bad weather situations… Pee Wee games are generally played 10:30am to 11:30 @ Inwood Terrace Park, Freshman and Sophomore division games generally played 2:00pm through 6:30pm @ the LFC Middle School field and finally the Jr/Sr division games are generally played 5:30 through 10:00pm @ Van Fleet Field. 

Q. When are in-town practices held?
A. Practices are held once a week, any day Monday through Friday, lasting one hour @ Van Fleet Field.  Approximate practice hours for all leagues:  The Pee Wee division players practice from 6pm to 7pm, Freshman and Sophomore division practice times are between 6 and 8pm with the Jr/Sr division practicing from 6pm to 9pm @ Van Fleet.  The actual practice date will be determined as the start of the season

Q. What is the duration of the fall season?
A. The first game usually begins the first weekend after Labor Day and ends on the weekend just before Thanksgiving (although the league reserves the right to extend the season due to inclement weather). The season will consist of a 10 game schedule with playoffs to follow. 

Q. Do you play in rain / inclement weather?
A. Yes. With two turf fields in the borough that have outstanding drainage, there is usually no reason to cancel the games. On grass fields, rain might make the fields unplayable. In that case, an announcement would be made on the home page of the website / emails sent.  Always check the website / emails before leaving home to ensure that there have been no changes made to the original schedule.  This pertains to games and practices. 

Q. How will I be notified of any game / practice cancellation?
A. In the event of any game cancellation, the League’s Games Commissioner will e-mail all of the coaches.  The onus is on the coaches to notify the families of the cancellation. In ADDITION, the League will post any notices on its’ home page of any cancellation.

If there is no notice or no phone call from your child’s coach, THE GAME IS ON. Because of the large size of the program, please do not call the league’s Board of Directors as we will be unable to return weather-related calls, especially since any potential cancellations will be posted on the website.

Q. When are canceled games rescheduled?
A. Saturday in-town recreation games will be rescheduled on an open Sunday afternoon.  In most cases, the times will differ. By registering, each family understands that games are played on both Saturday’s with Sunday’s as a fall back as a result of bad weather or holiday observance. 

Q. Are there any trophies or awards at the end of the season?
A. The League invites all families and players to an end of the season celebration held after the championship games.  The event will be catered with Participation and Division League Championship trophies to be handed out to all of the children.

Q. Who will train and coach our players?
A.
In the fall of 2013, the Fort Lee Soccer Club (FLSC) began a partnership with Advanced Total Soccer Coaching (ATSC).  ATSC is a New Jersey based instructional soccer company made up of committed, energetic, and professional personnel.  ATSC is committed to delivering high quality curriculums to youth soccer programs and players.  To this point, the FLSC and ATSC have combined efforts and will jointly manage and support our town soccer program.   
 
FLSC has become an affiliate club of ATSC.  Through this agreement ATSC will provide its elite coaching staff and training methods to our FLSC league.  ATSC will implement a full time curriculum that will be delivered to every player registered in FLSC program.  ATSC has committed to bring in full time qualified professional trainers & coaches, ensure the establishment of a program that will maximize our player skills, knowledge, and confidence.  ATSC will also assign a full time representative to personally oversee the successful implementation of the program and ensure effective communication with our club officials and league representatives.

FLSC has more than 500 plus players within its program structures, including our town recreation program and travel teams.  Our town recreation players will now be trained and coached by professional ATSC personnel.  Coaching services to be provided by the ATSC staff will include: training to be provided by professional and highly certified instructors, game day coaches, and proven development curriculums that we are confident will maximize our player skillsets and game knowledge.  The program will include; the disbursement of game jerseys to all registered players, training across TEN plus weeks, standing teams formed at all age groups, a TEN game season with maintained league standings culminating in a season ending CUP Tournament and finally closing ceremonies including trophy and canapés – looking forward to a great fall season…..  If you have questions in this new FLSC program, please reach out to Adam Thomson (adamt@advancedtotalsoccer.com) and as always the Fort Lee Soccer board (boardmembers@fortleesoccer.com ). 

IN-TOWN RECREATION WINTER INDOOR SEASON QUESTIONS

Q. How can I register my child for indoor soccer?
A. For the convenience of our loyal families, registration for participants of the Fort Lee Soccer League will be conducted via online registration on www.fortleesoccer.com. The beginning and ending date will be announced on our home page.  Outside town players are also welcomed.  Early Registration will be opened early October for the ensuing winter season.   

Q. Once I register, what equipment do I need to purchase?
A.· Indoor soccer shoes (which are sold at almost every sporting goods stores).
   · Black shorts (that do not exceed the length of the players kneecap).
   · Soccer socks (preferably white, which should go up to the players kneecap).
   · Shin guards
   · A soccer ball to bring to practice (an indoor ball is not necessary; an outdoor ball is sufficient for training purposes).

   The last 4 items your child would have if they played in the outdoor fall season.

Q. What is the duration of the in-town indoor season?
A. The season usually begins the first weekend in January and is played through approximately the third week in March.  Ten games will be played in total

Q. When are indoor soccer practices held?
A. In most cases, the practices are held on Sunday’s. Depending on the team your child may be placed on, the practice could begin as early as 12:00 p.m. or as late as 7:00 p.m.

Q. If I missed the winter indoor registration, what should I do?

A. Yes. All games are played indoors, however should there be a bad snow storm or inclement weather of any nature, an announcement would be made on the home page of the website / emails will be sent. Always check the website / emails before leaving home to ensure that there have been no changes made to the original schedule.  This pertains to games and practices.

TRAVEL TEAM QUESTIONS

Q. What travel leagues does the Fort Lee Soccer League play in?
A. The Fort Lee Soccer League’s travel teams play in the Northern Counties Soccer Association (NCSA), a highly competitive club program. Some of the same travel teams may also elect to play in MAPS (Mid Atlantic Premier Soccer), which is made up of many of the top teams in the region and includes teams as far as Pennsylvania and Long Island. Teams are assembled at the U8 age group though the U14 group

For the winter indoor season, most of the travel teams keep in soccer shape by playing either in leagues such as at the Teaneck Armory / Waldwick or by doing futsal or local indoor tournaments.

For the spring season, certain teams may elect to continue doing travel taking into consideration potential conflicts with traditional spring youth sporting events.

Q. How far are the travel team matches?
A. In the NCSA matches, almost all of the games are within a 25 minute drive from Fort Lee.

Q. What are the expectations for my travel player?
A. Once a player has been acknowledged as having made the team, as a rule, the player is expected to participate in all practices and games offered.  The expectation is for the player to participate in a Fall league, Winter league and Spring league.  All exceptions to this rule must be vetted out with the coach of the team  / Board. 

Q. Does my child need to try out?
A. At the conclusion of the year binding season, Fall Winter Spring, ALL players will need to try out again for the ensuing year play.

Q. Who will coach / train our players.
A. ATSC personnel.
