Original Northwood

Original Northwood is a diverse, upscale, and covenant community located in northeast Baltimore. We are 15 minutes from downtown and the Inner Harbor, and convenient to the I-695 beltway and I-95 to New York and Washington, DC.

Northwood is an urban echo of a semi-rustic village that is casually nucleated in a wooded park-like setting. Development began in 1930 during the depression and reflects the vision of repetitive design themes such as half-timbering and stucco, irregular massing, and the New England house form with a jetty create a subtly unified totality.

John Ahlers was the architect of the Roland Park Montebello Company hired to design and oversee the development of Northwood. The intent was to build homes in a planned community without sacrificing the natural beauty of the landscape. Existing large trees were kept, while winding streets and spacious lots were designed to conform to the natural terrain.
