    2006 12U Storm Team Accomplishments

    Great Job Storm Teams!!!
Great job Storm Teams in the St. Patrick's Day USSSA Tournament!  The 11's WON the CHAMPIONSHIP and the 12's made it to ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP Game against some of the best teams in So. Cal.  The 12's went 2-1 in pool play with Sunday's game against On Deck Threat being the deciding game to make the playoffs.  After winning a close one behind Connor Lennon's great pitching and securing the #2 seed the Storm reached the Semifinals vs. the #1 seed from the other pool.  Behind Jordan and Joseph and our closer, Jonathan(only giving up 3 hits) the Storm won 3-1 to advance to ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP GAME against one of the best teams in California, the Bad Company.  Joey Mills pitched a great game but the BC had a big sixth inning to seemingly have the game put away.  But the Storm showed their heart and scored three and only when Jordan's shot down third was caught was the game decided.  Considering we were battling the flu (and other assorted pains) all week, the team, incredibly, reached their 7th CHAMPIONSHIP GAME in only 8 Tournaments!!!  Since this group has been together we have an overall record of 30-8-1.  This record includes only games from highly competitive tournaments!!!  Keep up the good work!!!

    ATTENTION ALL 12U STORM PLAYERS!!!!

The NEW Storm/Novis Batting Cage and Hitting Complex is nearing completion.  The GRAND OPENING/TEAM PARTY/HITTING PRACTICE date will be announced soon.....

Congratulations to the Sun Devils on reaching the Championship game in the AAA Division.

Storm are Ranked # 1 in USSSA So. Cal. Poll and # 5 in the Nation
    April 29, 2006  --

Congratulations to ALL the Storm Teams(10, 11 and 12's) on reaching the semi-finals of their respective tournaments!!!!

The 12's went 2-2, while beating a team from Arizona and one of the best teams in So. Cal, the Los Alamitos Warthogs(the eventual Champion)!  Although we lost in the semi's it was another great showing by the Storm, capturing 3rd Place!

What a wonderful time was had at our Spring Break Party!  Many teams never get the opportunity to have so much fun and to enjoy all the player's and their families.  This is what travel ball was meant to be like!

Great job in the Select League.  We are accomplishing everything the coaches wanted to.  We are working on situations, seeing good live pitching, allowing our pitchers to pitch in game situations and most importantly, HAVING FUN!!!   Keep it up!!!

Including tournaments and other Select games the 12U Storm team is now 48-9-3!!!

Congratulations to the 10U, 11U and 12U Storm teams on their accomplishments this season!!!!

"Travel" baseball seems to have been around forever, while in reality it is a relatively new creation.  Organizations like USSSA, Triple Crown and Super Series are approx. a decade old.  The concept of pitting teams comprised of above average players against other similar teams was a way to raise everyone's level of play.  The explosion in the number of  teams in the past five years is remarkable(especially in So. Cal.).  Considering the limited area and number of players our Coachella Valley can realistically produce it is AMAZING that local teams have been so successful in the last couple of years.  So, Congratulations, Kudos, job well done and any other positive accolades to ALL the travel teams that have made the Coachella Valley a formidable area for travel ball.
There are many different "types" of travel teams.  Some teams are made up of mercenaries, high level players who play with different teams every weekend.  These teams sometimes have rosters 25 players deep.  Then there are teams who have somewhat of a finite roster but have a HUGE geographical area to draw from.  For example, when we ask teams from Orange County if they get their players from North or South Orange County, they usually answer, "Yes".  Teams known as  "West Coast Whatevers", truly draw their players from ALL of So. Cal. and the West Coast!!!  Then there are the teams who are truly "local" to one general area.  Because of the limits to this Valley, most of the teams in the Coachella Valley fit into this category.
Five years ago a team was formed, the Palm Desert Patriots, where the core of the team all lived within a two mile radius!  At the time this was the only travel team in the Desert.  Now, there are many more and the SUCCESS of many of these teams has been nothing short of phenomenal!  The Diamondbacks won a State Championship in San Diego as 9 year olds.  The PD Titans and the Desert Storm teams were born and both won numerous Tournaments as 10's and 11's. The Titans had a great run in Cooperstown, finishing in 3rd place. As the Patriots continued their successful ways the Desert Storm, the Desert Crush, the Sun Devils and the SoCal Magic were all competing as 12 year olds.  Every tournament one of these teams seemingly was in the Championship or winning the Championship(the guess here is that these teams have been in over 30 or 40 Championship games). Both the Storm and the Crush had great runs in Cooperstown, considering there were 96 teams in these tournaments. The Storm 12's came in 3rd at the Vegas Fall Nationals. The Toro's came in 3rd at the TC World Series. A Magic team won a TC World Series.  This success has continued over the years.  Now there are younger teams who are continuing on with the competitive tradition of the Desert.  The 12U and 11U Storm have been in Championships on a regular basis, with the 12U Storm winning two Championships recently.  The 11U PD Toros have won numerous Championships in the last two years.  These days there are many teams of all ages competing and(some are doing very well) in "travel" tournaments:  the PD Bulldogs, the Desert City Sluggers, the PD Aztecs, the Longhorns, the Desert Rattlers, the Palm Desert Dodgers, Manny's Magic, the California Kings, et al...    Two teams from the past few years who developed a large number of players to be successful at the high school level are the Patriots and Go Yard.
It should be fun to watch these up and coming ballplayers as they develop and make the jump to high school(and beyond?).  Good job to all of these teams and their coaching staffs on raising the level of baseball in the Desert.  Although there are rivalries, whenever a Desert team wins another Championship(or even just does well) there is a little bit of pride in knowing they are one of our own.....

12U Update:  The 12U Storm Baseball Team WON its 6th CHAMPIONSHIP of the season by defeating the Murrieta Mulisha, 7-5, on Sunday in a San Diego USSSA Tournament.  The boys went 4-0 to improve our season record to 54-11-3!!!  The Storm 12U Team has been in 12 Tournaments this year and has reached the Championship Game in 10 of the Tournaments.

12U Storm Takes 1st Place in the Triple Crown MLK Qualifier!
    January 16, 2006  --
The 12U Desert Storm team once again battled their way into another championship game!  Great pitching and monster hitting allowed the boys to go 2-0 on Saturday to qualify for the playoffs. Sunday was a tale of two teams; the first game was not one in which the boys have become accustomed. The semi-final game was the direct opposite with big hits and great defense to compliment great pitching. The championship game was incredible to watch as the boys wrapped up their second championship in only four tournaments! Way to go boys! Your coaches, parents, and grandparents are very proud of your hard work and great attitudes on and off the field. Keep it up!  It is a lot of fun!!

12U DESERT STORM WINS IT ALL AT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
    January 30, 2006  --
The boys continued to play at a very high level in the Winter State Championships this weekend. We once again witnessed great pitching, strong defense, and a lot of offense to bring the boys to a 2-1 pool play record. This earned them the top seed in their pool and a chance to play the Lakewood Lynx in the semi-finals. After a  win over the Lynx the boys found themselves in their 5th championship game in 5 tournaments. The Black Widows were on the slate for the championship game. They brought their own great pitching and big bats to give the Storm boys a solid challenge. In the end the Storm caught the Widows in their web to win the Winter State Championships!
The entire Desert Storm Baseball Club would like to congratulate the Sun Devils on their great play over the weekend going 2-1 for the tournament. Both teams showed what Desert baseball looks like.!
Keep up the hard work boys!!!!

Congratulations boys on a job well done.

12's WIN CHAMPIONSHIP of Triple Crown Tournament
    March 6, 2006  --
The 12U Storm continued their incredible run by WINNING the Triple Crown March Qualifier--Major Division.  The team reached their 6th Championship Game in just 7 tournaments. On Saturday our team beat the Super Series "National Champion" Arizona Wackers, 1-0, in an incredibly well played game.  In our second game of pool play the Storm tied the NBC Angels by scoring a run in the 6th.  By virtue of having the best pool play record the Storm was awarded the #1 seed.  After playing lights out baseball in the semi's and winning 6-2, the Storm had to face their friends, the Murrieta Crusaders.  The Storm played great defense and behind great pitching they captured another Championship Plaque.  The Storm now has won 4 Championships in our last 6 tournaments.  Since this group was assembled in September we are now 26-5-1.  Considering two of our losses were in pool play games where we had already secured the #1 seed and were irrelevant to making the playoffs, this group has a lot to be proud of. Thank you to all of our families and friends who showed up to cheer us on.  Congrats also to our friends, the Sun Devils, who ended up as the #1 seed entering the Playoffs.
