HBC FCNY
PRE-TRAVEL
TRAINING PROGRAM

The HBC FCNY Pre-Travel training program is designed for ALL of our U9 players (both boys and girls)...U9 players are those children with birthdates from August 1, 2000-July 31, 2001 (effective August 1, 2009).

Rather than play in house in an "intramural" setting, we choose to participate in several leagues (Interleague) where we play against teams from other towns. This option allows our players and parents the opportunity to get an understanding of a higher level programs available to HBC participants as the children get older. While we do travel, the rules of the interleague program are less rigid than those of the Travel program which is run by the Long Island Junior Soccer League and which does not begin play until U10. We are able to have an unlimited roster in the Interleague program, the schedule is a bit more flexible and we can move players between our HBC teams. We will attempt to seperate the children based on their current level of ability and are not concerned with winning and losing. The children who are more developed both tactically and technically may be offered the opportunity to participate in the HBC Travel Program at the completion of the U9 program.

Upon the completion of the 2010 Spring Season, children may continue with the program as a participant on either a travel team or they may opt to stay in the interleague program. For more info on these options...click here.

Please see below for more details.

What is the cost of the Pre-Travel U9 Program?

Please note that you have several choices when registering for the HBC Interleague program. It is important you read through this information and decide for yourself what you feel is best for you. Please feel free to contact the HBC Soccer Club Travel Director at HBCTravelSoccer@aol.com should you have any questions.

U9 FALL Season...INCLUDED IN HBC REGISTRATION...ALL children in this age group are registered in the HBC U9 PRE-TRAVEL program and will recieve twice weekly, professional training from the FCNY* Training organization for the FALL SEASON. In addition, FCNY will provide a coach for all of the scheduled games through the entire season. FCNY has developed an age appropriate curriculum which will build upon the individual skills they have been developing in our Intramural program. This curriculm will adapt to the cognitive abilities of the children as they can only learn what their brains can comprehend. The concept of "team" as well as their role on the team, will be introduced as each player will begin to understand their role and what is expected from them. They will also begin to learn about the tactical aspects of the game.

U9 SPRING Season...All children participating in this program may register for one of the following choices...

PROGRAM A
Pre-Travel...the children in this program will continue with twice weekly training and coaching at all of the scheduled Interleague games through the entire season from FCNY. However, in addition to the HBC registration fee, a training/coaching fee must be paid directly by the parent to the training organization. This program is designed for the serious player who wishes to continue their development with the goal of participating on a Travel team. Training/coaching fee information is available upon request.

PROGRAM B
Interleague...the children in this group will continue with once weekly training and coaching at all of the scheduled Interleague games through the entire season from FCNY. However, in addition to the HBC registration fee, a training/coaching fee must be paid directly by the parent to the training organization. This program is designed for the player who enjoys playing and who wishes to continue participating on a less stressful Travel or Interleague team. Training/coaching fee information is available upon request.

PROGRAM C
Interleague "Games Only"...the children in this group are unable or do not wish to attend practice but want to play on a team that is coached by FCNY. Coaching fee information is available upon request.

PROGRAM D
Interleague "PV" Program...the children in this group can play for a parent volunteer. No professional training or coaching will be provided so there will be no training fees involved. All volunteers must first be approved by the HBC Soccer Club Board of Directors and must successfully pass "Risk Management".

What times/days are our practices and games?

Our practice schedule will be posted on the FCNY calendar page. Once we choose the practice days, we do our best to keep them the same for the year but the schedule may have to be modified and adjusted from time to time based on field availability and access to a lit field. Please understand that with the large number of children participating in our program it is impossible for us to plan our practice schedule around your other activities.

We have NO control over our game schedule as this is prepared by the leagues that we will play in. There will be times that you will have to make accomodations or sacrifices in order to attend a game. We understand that there may be an occasion where you must miss a game for a family event or emergency. Please notify us should you need to miss a practice or a game so we are able to plan accordingly.

. How long are the practices?

Practice sessions will be 1 1/2 hours long

What do I do if it rains/snows/cold/etc?

We will practice in drizzle or light rain, cold or other inclement weather however, there is generally little to be gained by practicing in a downpour or temperatures below 30 degrees. If it is raining during the day of a practice or game, you can check you emails and the front page of the FCNY website. If it begins raining less than 1 hour prior to the start of practice, show up at the field where the practice/game may or may not be cancelled. You can contact your team administrator if in doubt. You can never go wrong by using common sense. Do not leave the field if we are practicing in case we must cancel during the practice session. Please be on time to pick up your child upon the conclusion of our practice sessions. ALWAYS call in case of an emergency!

I can’t attend a practice or game…what do I do?

Part of our program’s goals is to teach the children about responsibility both to themselves and their teammates. If you are unable to attend a practice and you know this earlier than 2 hours prior…you can email. However, less than 2 hours before a practice and for ALL games, you MUST CALL your team administrator or Jim Neuburger.

Where are our games, how far do we "travel"?

Our home games will be played at Half Hollow Park on Old South Path in Melville. The other half of our games will be "away" at our opponents fields. We will be "traveling" to these away games, all of which will be on Long Island.

I have seen the boys and girls practice together...will this continue??

Please keep in mind that the curriculum for the children is the same regardless of gender. The first half of our practice sessions will involve warm up and foot skills and will have little if any contact. As we move to the practical application of the session, the children MAY be seperated. This will be done more to facillitate the lesson plan and has little if anything to do with the physical aspect of the game. In fact, when kept together, the girls benefit more than the boys as they learn how to be more aggressive and physical than they might be when seperated. While not the norm, please keep in mind that this is a developmental program and we will employ whatever techniques we will assist in the accomplishment of this goal.

I was a coach in the Intramural program...can I still be involved??

The teams will be coached by FCNY for the fall season. However, each interleague team will require a parent volunteer to act as the team administrator. This person will be the administrative assistant for the coaching staff. They will be responsible for contacting the opposing team for directions and game confirmation, they will act as the liason between the coaching staff and the parents and they will be responsible for the player passes and rosters.

If you wish to put together a team on your own for the spring season, please notify the HBC Soccer Club of your intent.
