TJ'S OLDSTARS PLACE 2ND
August 8, 2005 --
Back Row Left to Right,Jason, Tim, Kevin, Russ, Dave, Chris, Mike
Front Row Left to Right, Bryan, John, Jim, Norm
Who would have thought that a team with a 4-6 record in league, would finish 2nd in the +35 State Tournament? No One ……. Well the boys out of TJ’s lounge did just that. What a great weekend, although it started out on a sour note!!!! You see Kevin (the Key Master) locked his keys in his Truck at Holter Lake and missed the 1st game. We still pulled out a 16-18 victory against the Elbow Room, with CJ’s 2 run Bomb in the bottom of the 7th. (Kevin showed in the top of the 7th). Game two was probably the game of the Tournament, we played a team called Team Self, and this game went 9 innings and showcased some outstanding defense. Even thought the Stars fell from the winner’s bracket with a 9-8 loss. Day two started out with a fairly easy game against Red’s Towing, final score 16-2. Next up was the Elbow Room again this time we didn’t wait for the 7th inning, final score Stars 20 Elbow Room 11. Game 5 brought Team Self to the plate, this game was another great game with the Stars winning 11-7… this win put the Stars in the Championship Game but we needed to win two over a very strong team (Cactus Creek) out of Billings. These boys just hit the ball and routed the Stars 28-8….
The bright spots of the weekend were: Tim Kuntz’s introduction to +35 ball, Tim ability was asset to the team. Team Oldstars look forward to seeing more of Tim in the future.
Not only did Mike pitch extremely well this weekend, He also hit a bomb in our loss to Cactus Creek. Even though it was a solo shot it was hard hit, which is all that we ask for…
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our newest member of the K Queen club, none other then our own Russ (Digger) McKinney. I must say he sure does look pretty in pink. But Russ did put the team ahead of personal stats, by sharing duties with CJ behind the plate this allowed Tim to assume duties at 1st. Thanks for being a team player… Guys like you sure make it easy to manage a team….

Great Falls Adult Softball Meeting Highlights
On Monday March 16th at 7pm, the Great Falls Parks & Recreation Department (Softball Division) had a softball meeting. For those that missed the softball meeting here is the gist of what was discussed. I would like to thank the 13 people that came to the meeting. We definitely needed more folks there in order to get a good idea of what is needed to be done to help softball in great falls. Below are some topics that we discussed:
Tournaments-What can we do to get folks to come to our tournaments like they do in Bozeman and Anaconda. Their will be four, I guess you'd call major tournaments this year along with a few other smaller tournaments.
-Great Falls Umpires Tournament
-8-Ball Blast
-Missouri River Mosquito Fest
-Can-Am Invitational
League-We also discussed the possibility of having a 20 game season with double headers. But, with only 13 teams represented tough to make decisions on something that big. It would cost each team $90 for 10 additional games. Other then that we discussed ways to promote softball in our city. I think were going to need to have another meeting before schedules are made. In case folks are down with 20 games. Those are the highlights for now.

NEW DISTRICT COMMISSIONER
First of all we have a new district commissioner. Larry Lewis is the new district commissioner. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ken Berg for the time he gave as our previous commissioner.
Now, Larry will be going to the state softball meetings this weekend and would like to know if anybody has something that they would like brought up about softball, i.e. questions and concerns. Just email him at lewis52@3riversdbs.net . His phone number will be posted on GFSA website if you wish to talk to him in person.
I had a meeting to day with the new Parks and Recreation director Marty Basta and I must say it was encouraging. He is concerned about the state of softball in Great Falls and would like to turn it around. Now, he can’t do it on his own. He needs our assistance and he would like anyone who has ideas on how to make softball work in Great Falls. You can email him at mbasta@greatfallsmt.net . Folks it’s simple. If we don’t come up with something the powers that be will have no other course then to shut us down. After playing in this town for 26 years I definitely do not want to see softball fail. So, if you got legitimate ideas send them to Mr. Basta.

The Complex
February 1, 2005 --
Well it is official, the complex is now ran by the GFSA. In a unanimous decision at the City Council the council voted to lease the complex to the association for $1 per year for the next two years. Now the work begins. We will need the support of all the teams to make this thing work.
There will be a GFSA meeting Thursday night at TJ's at 6:00 PM. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. The association has some good ideas for the up and coming year, but all inputs are welcome. So come to the meeting and get involved and help make our complex the best in the state.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING
January 19, 2005 --
There was some slight confusion about the meeting last night. When I got there the meeting was already over. I guess the council had moved our proposal from last on the agenda to first. From the short conversation that I had with Ken, Will, Tim and Angie the meeting was mostly the council asking question of the GFSA. The GFSA also has some questions of the council about the draft of the Multi Sports Complex Lease Agreement between the city and the GFSA. Ken says that everything is looking good and the final meeting is set for the 1st of Feb. We don't have a time on the meeting; Ken will get the time and let us know. This is the meeting that we need to have all of the support that we can get, because the council will hear for's and against the proposal. So let everyone know that is involved with softball to show up at the meeting. If you have any input please post it in the forum. Link to write up in Great Falls Tribune.BJ

RESULTS OF THE GFSA MEETING ON JAN. 6
January 7, 2004 --
After you've gone to a few meetings it becomes obvious, who the regulars are. Board members in attendance were: Kenny, Tim, Angie, Fournier, Traynum, and I think Jerry... But don't quote me on that. Team reps were there from Old Stars (sorry Jim), Pierces, Diesel, Rebels, Storm, Rhino, and TJ's (womens).
We got a good grasp on some of the logistical problems such as the mowing of the fields. The city has always mowed them twice a week, so do we want to pursue a deal with them, or do we want to purchase our own equipment? After some debate, it was decided that we would try to solidify a deal with the city.
The fields were dubbed as the biggest priority (batters boxes, infield lips, warning tracks). The playground upgrade will come next.
