11U Black Monster Brigade
May 13, 2009  --
Great weekend! The boys play improves by leaps and bounds! I am very pleased with their individual and team improvement.

Alec Shellenberger:  4-10, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB – Alec played well in the field all weekend.

Zach Wertz:  2-11, 2 BB, 5 R, 1 RBI, 2 SB – Zach continues to run the bases well in all aspects. He continues to play very good defense.

Erik Lucas:  Erik had a difficult weekend after experiencing an injury at Friday night’s practice. His presence on the bench and team support continues to demonstrate what the Keystone Nationals and this team are about.

Connor Yoder:  3-10, 4 BB, 3 R, 3 SB – He threw 11 strikeouts in 9 innings pitched. Opposing coaches complimented his pitching ability.

Cameron Place:  2-10, 1 BB, 1 R – Cameron was a huge help to the team in stepping up and helping with catching duties with Erik’s absence due to injury. Great job Cam!

Matthew Schade:  Matthew gave us – (me) a safety-net by being a backup in case of another injury. He also helped in preparing other players in between innings and rallying the team support. Thanks Matthew!

Austin Wacker:  4-13, 1 R, 1 RBI, 5 SB – Austin pitched 7 strikeouts in 6 innings.

Sammy Signor:  2-10, 1 BB, 3 R, 3 SB – Sammy’s lead in the last tournament for outfield play was followed by more guys and he let the way again! Way to go Slammin’!

Matt Kerber:  4 BB, 3 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB – Matt made a number of necessary plays for us in the outfield this weekend.

Zach Rineer:  1-8, 2 BB, 2 HBP, 3 R, 1 RBI, 3 SB – Zach played well at first base this weekend and continues to show improvement in his defense.

Drew Miller:  5-13, 1 BB, 1 SB, 8 RBI – After a shaky first game at first base, Drew settled-in and made several nice plays in left field – especially one running to the gap. Way to go Drew! Also had a great weekend driving in runs! He pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up just 1 earned run.

Summary:  In just our 3rd tournament, taking 2nd place is fantastic boys and you should be proud…but not satisfied. You have put in a lot of hard work to get to this point. We have played good teams and continue to play better and more consistently from when we started the year. Keep it up!

  Game 1:  Central Penn Renegades – Loss – 7-6

Game 2:  York Young Revolution Red – Win – 9-2

  Game 3:  Mid-State Mavericks – Win – 4-2

  Game 4:  Mid-State Mavericks – Loss – 9-2 Championship Game
