Association Rules and Regulations
**These rules and regulations are subject to change without any notice**
ARTICLE I - GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
SECTION I - GENERAL
Fundraiser- All players must participate in the association fundraiser. Parents will have the option of either selling in the fundraiser, or just paying KGSA what they would have made in profit. The difference will be paid at registration.
Team Sponsorships - Each slow pitch recreation team is responsible for a KGSA sponsor of $175 before opening day. Otherwise that team forfeits going to the Coke Classic or any other tournaments.
SECTION II - LATE REGISTERING PLAYERS
All players who register with Kennesaw Girls Softball after skills test, will be assigned to a team by the Board of Directors. Players will be assigned to teams with least amount of players; if teams have equal number of players, the draft numbers will be used.
SECTION III - PLAYING RULES
A team may pick up one or two players from lower age group if team has only 8 or 9 players to have 10 players. If roster players show up these players must enter the game and play with original roster players.
Allow all players to be in the batting order with free substitutions.
If player becomes sick or is hurt and cannot bat, no out will be declared since all players are in the batting order.
Any rule not covered by Kennesaw Girls Softball Association will be covered by ASA, GRPA, or NGFA, USSSA, ISA or GSA.
If umpires do not show up, a Board member is in charge and picks and approves an umpire. Both Head Coaches have to approve choices of Board member’s umpire. If one (1) head coach does not approve, then the game will be rescheduled when an official umpire can be there.
SECTION IV - PLAYER UNIFORMS
All players must be in full uniform to participate in Kennesaw Girls Softball Association. This includes jersey shirt, pants/shorts and socks with jersey tucked into pants/shorts. The Association will provide uniforms (socks, pants/shorts, jerseys).
All jerseys will have the name “Kennesaw” or “Kennesaw Girls Softball” printed on the front of the team jerseys.
Players can be furnished KGSA approved shorts or pants and may purchase the other as they desire. Pants and shorts may be mixed. Board of directors must approve shorts for all age groups.
Fast Pitch players may be allowed to wear the same uniform for in-park and out of park play in accordance with the KGSA guidelines governing proper attire.
SECTION V - EQUIPMENT
Double wall or multi wall bats may be used in the 8 & U through 19 & U age groups in intra-park play, and tournament play. 6 & U will not use double wall or multi wall bats in intra-park play.
All catchers except 6U age group will wear complete catchers equipment. This includes mask, helmet, throat guard, and chest protector. Fast pitch catchers shall wear shin guards in addition to the above; they are also to wear a helmet with mask while warming up a fast pitch pitcher.
If a player drops out of the program, the team’s coach is responsible for retrieving any uniform or equipment the player may have that is the property of KGSA.
SECTION VI - TEAM SELECTION PROCESS

ARTICLE II - TEAM MANAGERS, COACHES & ANY PERSON WATCHING A KGSA BALL GAME
SECTION I - FILLING POSITIONS
Any person wishing to coach or be an assistant coach in the Kennesaw Girls Softball Association shall do so in writing to the Board of Directors. Forms will be made available at all meetings/registration or through the Secretary.
Applicants for Head Coach must be at least 21 years of age and assistant coaches must be at least 18 years of age; must be able to travel as required by team schedule, must be familiar with the rules of girls softball and must be able to attend meetings and practices as required. It is mandatory that all head coaches be NYSCA / ASA certified.
It is mandatory for all Coaches & Asst. Coaches to be certified by NYSCA or ACE. The Head Coaches certification shall be paid for by KGSA for the first year only. Certification is open to any parent or guardian interested in volunteering, provided they follow proper KGSA coaching application policies.
All new coaches and any coach who has had a written complaint filed with the Board of Director’s, shall be required to complete an interview with representatives of the board. The Board of Director’s reserves the right to interview a coach at any time.
All coaches, Dugout mom/dad, team mom/dad or any person on the field with the players at any time must complete and pass background checks required by city of Kennesaw and K.G.S.A.
SECTION II - COACHING STAFF
The coaching staff for each team shall consist of a head coach and maximum of 2 assistant coaches with the exception of the 6U & 8U age groups which may have 3 assistant coaches and one mentor. Mentors are individuals at least 15 years old and have been approved by the Board of Director’s. The head coach and assistant coach (es) will be approved by a majority of the Board of Directors.
An approved coach can only Head coach NO more than two teams in any one season.
No new assistant Coaches will be assigned until after the draft.
SECTION III - DUTIES OF COACHES
The head coach is responsible for the conduct of each player, parents and coaches of his team as governed by ASA/NYSCA Rules and KGSA Rules and Regulations.
**KGSA coaching staff shall abide by the following Code Of Ethics:
Will not use profanity
Will not use alcoholic beverages or illicit drugs in or near a competitive event involving participants or the Association
Will Not drink alcoholic beverages while transporting team
Will not use tobacco of any form when in the presence of team
Will place the emotional and physical well being of players ahead of desire to win
Will treat each player as an individual and remember the game is for the players
Will organize practices that are fun and challenging and safe for players
Will lead, by example, in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to players
Will be knowledgeable in the rules and teach these rules to the players
**Violation of these rules and regulations may result in immediate termination of all coaching responsibilities.
The coaches shall teach the fundamentals of softball in such a way that the children will obtain a thorough knowledge of the correct method of participation.
All coaches are required to attend KGSA or other approved training classes.
K.G.S.A. will reimburse all approved Coaches to attend N.Y.S.C.A. / ASA for the first year only. Coaches will be responsible for any and all certification fees after the 1st year.
Coaches, along with the KGSA Board Members may organize pitching camps for the players prior to the beginning of the season of play.
The coaches shall channel all their requests for game equipment through KGSA’s Vice President.
If two of the three approved Coaches are present during a game, both must coach bases.
The coaching staff shall be responsible for the final selection of their player’s positions.
The coaches should ignore any comments that may be considered complaints unless the complaints or grievances are handled through prospective player Representatives. Complaints should be made in writing and submitted to player Representative within 24 hours from the time of alleged incident.
Coaches must stand 3-5 feet behind the players in the 8 & under age group.
SECTION IV - MANAGER SELECTION GUIDING PRINCIPLES
When approving potential candidates for the coaching staffs, the Board of Directors will consider the following qualifications:
Previous year as head coach of team to which candidate is applying.
Previous year as assistant coach of team to which candidate is applying.
Previous coaching experience in Kennesaw Girls Softball Association.
Previous coaching experience.
NYSCA/ACE certification.
SECTION V - DISCIPLINARY ACTION
A coach whose conduct is unbecoming or detrimental to the League by willfully disregarding or breaking these rules and regulations may be relieved of his coaching duties for the remainder of the season, by written notice from the majority of the Board of Directors. All written notices are to be presented by 2 or more Board Members.
Disciplinary actions against a coach, asst. team mom parent, or player will be reviewed by members of the board and a vote will be taken on how to handle each infraction by the board that a coach, team mom, asst. Coach, parent, or player does that is not becoming of someone representing KGSA.
ARTICLE III - POST-SEASON PLAY
SECTION I - ALL-STARS
Only regular season approved coaches can coach All-Star games or tournament games and must be certified by ASA/NYSCA. The All-Star Coaches will be voted upon by the head coaches of the respective age groups, subject to final Executive Board approval. In the event of a tie in the age group the All-Star/Tournament Coordinator will be the tie-breaker.
A Clinic will be held for potential All Star players each year prior to the beginning of All Star tournaments.
All coaches in each age group can vote on up to ten (10) players that he/she feels would make a true asset to the All Star Team.
Each player that receives a unanimous by all head coaches will automatically be placed on the team. Each girl receiving 2/3 votes of the respective coaches will be considered for the team. All open positions will be filled at the all-star team manager and the coaching staff’s discretion not to exceed a total of 15 girls. The all star team may not consist of 5 or more girls from the same preceding spring team without the approval of the board of directors.
In the event of a tie on All-Star Team voting, it is up to the Coach & his/her staff to break tie. All Star Roster will be posted.
All players chosen to play on All-Star Teams must pay sixty-five dollars to help off-set tournament and uniform costs.
As soon as the All-Star coaches have been determined and the players chosen, he/she is given the option to initiate assembly of the All-Star team - as long as it does not interfere with the regular season or the Coca-Cola Classic tournament.
An "A" and "B" All-Star Team may be formed when there are at least the following number of players registered in each age group:
8U - 100 14U - 50
10U - 100 16U - 50
12U - 100 18U - 50
The All-Star/Tournament Coordinator and the Executive Board will make the final determination as to the need of a “B” team. No B-team in any age group can be considered until after the A-team is complete. No player can switch from A or B all-star teams.
All-Star Players for these teams shall be selected as follows: Once the A Team Coach has been determined, a clinic will be held for all potential All-Star players. All Head Coaches in each age group shall rank the potential All-Star players from their age group and the top 10 ranked players shall be placed on the A Team. The A Team Coach may then select up to 5 additional players for the A Team.
After the A Team has been finalized, a B Team coach shall be determined and the next 10 highest ranking players shall be placed on the B Team. The B Team Coach may then select up to 5 additional players from those remaining to finalize the B Team.
ARTICLE IV - AWARDS
SECTION I - BANNER CONTEST
KGSA will have a Banner Contest for each age group at the start of the Spring Season. Winning team to get a free hotdog and coke from the concession stand.
SECTION II - SPRING SEASON CHAMPION
First place will go to team with best overall record. If there is a tie between two (2) Kennesaw teams, the team with the best record between the two will take first place. If identical records, there will be a 1 game head to head play off.
ARTICLE V - FAST-PITCH
SECTION I - RULES
KGSA fast pitch will be governed by NGFA and ASA playing rules.
Double-wall bats will be allowed in fast pitch intra-park play.
All 10 & U and 12 & U fast pitch team players are required to wear a NOCSAE batting helmet with a NOCSAE approved face guard.
All fast pitch players are required to wear a mouthpiece during all team practices and games.
SECTION II - TEAM SELECTION
Teams will be based on available coaches and the number of players.
Coaches will pick their team from all fast pitch applicants after try-outs.
No recruiting of players by anyone associated with the fast pitch or slow pitch programs will be allowed.
In-park fast pitch teams will be selected on a draft basis unless a returning player (from a previous Adams park team) desires to remain with the same team.
Players not selected after team selections will automatically be added into the slow pitch draft.
Any player that is not part of the original roster of a Fast-Pitch Team and is not a registered player at KGSA will be considered a “pick up” player. The parents will be required to sign a waiver releasing KGSA from liability or the player must go through the regular registration process by completing a registration form and paying the appropriate fees in order to be covered by the KGSA Insurance. If a team picks up a registered KGSA player, the league secretary must be notified. The Head Coach will assume full responsibility/liability for any “pick-up” player not reported to the KGSA secretary.
SECTION III - FINANCE
Fast pitch sign-up fee will be as established by the KGSA Board of Directors.
Fast pitch teams will be responsible for all tournament fees with the understanding they will hold fundraisers and work with parents to raise the money.
First place in-park fast pitch team does not have to pay entry fee for KGSA tournaments.
KGSA Board must approve all fast pitch fund raising activities.
ARTICLE VI – COMPETITIVE SLOW-PITCH
SECTION I – COMPETITIVE SLOW-PITCH TEAMS
Competitive slow-pitch softball teams (travel teams) for all age groups will be permitted. The selected teams will be comprised of no less than a 60/40 split of returning KGSA players/players new to KGSA.
Any player that is not part of the original roster of a CSP Team and is not a registered player at KGSA will be considered a “pick up” player. The parents will be required to sign a waiver releasing KGSA from liability or the player must go through the regular registration process by completing a registration form and paying the appropriate fees in order to be covered by the KGSA Insurance. If a team picks up a registered KGSA player, the league secretary must be notified. The Head Coach will assume full responsibility/liability for any “pick-up” player not reported to the KGSA secretary.
