Lancer Classic Jr. Skills Competitions!
New in 2009, show off your best baseball assets in our revamped Jr. Skills Competitions for players ages 9-12. Completely free and with outstanding prizes for the winners, these competitions should be a fun experience for each team!
Each team should host their own preliminary to select their top two representatives for each competition. Check below for a brief overview for each event!

Long Ball Competiton (Ages 9-10)
A variation on the classic Home Run Derby.
Players get five swings, with each fair ball measured at its resting point and added together to determine final score. Players can either hit from a pitching machine or a batting practice coach.
- Ball hit 0-100 feet. 1 point for every 10 feet.
- Ball hit 100-200 feet. 1 point for every 10 feet PLUS 10.
- Ball hit 200-300 feet. 1 point for every 10 feet plus 25.
- Ball hit over 300 feet. 1 point for every 10 feet plus 50.
Competition limited to two (2) players per team.

Home Run Derby
The Home Run Derby.
A classic staple for kids ages 11-12. Players will take their chances against either a pitching machine or a batting practice coach of their choice, the choice is theirs. Players will get ten strikes to hit in the opening round, with two free passes, meaning that they can look at two called strikes without penalty.
- Home Runs are worth ten points.
- Ground Rule Doubles are worth Seven Points.
- Balls hit to the fence are worth two points.
- Balls in play are worth one point.
Fences are 205' at all locations!

Infielder Golden Arm
Time to prove who has a gun!
Infielders are placed at shortstop and given three opportunities to make three plays, in the hole at second, in the hole at third, and straight on.
Score is taken using your "pop" time, starting with the time the ball touches the glove, until the time the ball touches the glove of the receiving player at First Base. The receiving player can be either a coach or a player.
Times only count if the ball hits the glove of the receiving player with a foot still on First Base. Balls reaching the receiving player on a bounce are also counted. Accurate throws not caught are also counted. Overthrows and balls off line, even if caught, are not counted.
Players are given a numerical value determined by their place on the leaderboard. For example, 12th place gets one point, 1st place gets 12 points. Each Round is scored seperately.
Only 1 player per team!

Outfielder Golden Arm

Outfielders are placed at 175 feet in right field and given three chances in three rounds. The first round is a play at second base. Second Round is to third base. Third Round is to Home Plate.
Score is taken using your "pop" time, starting with the time the ball touches the glove, until the time the ball touches the glove of the receiving player at the appropriate base. The receiving player can be either a coach or a player.
Times only count if the ball hits the glove of the receiving player within the approved circle of the receiving base (Approximately 4.5 feet in circumference). Balls reaching the receiving player on a bounce are also counted. Accurate throws not caught are also counted. Overthrows and balls off line, even if caught, are not counted.

Base Burner!
Who is the fastest baserunner in the tournament?
Players are lined up in the batters box for four rounds of running. Home to first, home to second, home to third, and the round tripper!
Players are timed and ranked in order of their finish relative to the other burners. 9-10 year olds will be running 60' bases. 11-12 year olds will run 70' bases. Points are awarded based on rankings after each round. Player who finishes in 12th place receives 1 point, first place receives 12 points.
Only one (1) Player per team!
