The Dillon Youth Basketball League is entering its 42nd season. The program is a partnership between the Princeton Recreation Department and Princeton University. All of the volunteer coaches are Princeton University students. Each year we have over 75-80 students that volunteer their time to the program. The level of coaching/basketball experience of these volunteers varies widely, however, there is a very limited practice/teaching element to this program. The Recreation Department will have adult supervisors on site at all scheduled games and team shoot-arounds.
Dillon League Philosophy
The Dillon League is recreational in nature. All players will play in every game regardless of their skill level or whether they have attended the informal practice sessions. The Dillon League is about playing the game and having fun while doing it. While the skill levels may vary within each team, coaches are mandated to play everyone.
Registration
Only Princeton residents and nonresidents that attend a school located within the geographical boundaries of Princeton Township or Borough may register for the program. Nonresidents may be accepted later if there are still available spots. Residency is based on where you pay property tax. Mailing address does not equal residency.

Space in the program is limited and you are not guaranteed a spot. Teams fill up on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once the division limit has been reached, a waiting-list will be started for all other players.
We are not able to honor teammate requests. We will do our best to put siblings of the same gender on the same team if they play in the same division.
Game Schedule
Games are played at Dillon Gym on the campus of Princeton University on Saturday mornings starting December 1. Practice Schedule
Each team will have the opportunity to have additional gym time for an informal practice and shootaround throughout the course of the season. This schedule will be based on the availability of gym space, as well as the Princeton University academic calendar. Teams will not practice every week, however the day & time of each team's practice will remain the same throughout the season on those weeks when space is available. A detailed schedule will be provided at a later date. Parents/Players do not get to choose their time slot. Time slots are 1 hour long.
- Boys in grades 4 - 5 will practice on Sundays at Princeton High School from 4:20 -5:20pm
- Girls in grades 4 - 5 will practice on Sundays at Princeton High School between 3:10 - 4:10 pm.
- Girls in grades 6 - 9 will practice on Sundays at Princeton High School between 2 and 3 pm.
- Boys, Grades 6-9 practice on weeknights at John Witherspoon Middle School. The time slots are 6:45 - 7:45 pm and 7:55 - 8:55 pm. Each team will practice 1 night per week on either Monday, or Wednesday.
We respectfully request that parents do not enter the gym during the practices. Despite the best intentions of the parents, having anybody besides the coaches & players in the gym has proven to provide a distraction. We have adult staff supervising the practices at all times. Thank you in advance for respecting this request.
Travel Basketball Policy
5th graders can play Dillon AND Travel Basketball (if selected to the travel team). Players in grades 6 - 8 are NOT allowed to play both Dillon and Travel. If you would like to register for Dillon prior to the Travel team tryouts you can do so, and we will transfer your registration fee towards your travel team fee if you are selected to the travel team. This way, your Dillon spot is guaranteed.
Clarification:4th graders will only be eligible for Travel Basketball if we do not have enough 5th graders to fill out the 5th grade teams.
4th graders should NOT attend the tryouts.
