COACHES/PLAYERS SIDE OF FIELD - Parents, friends, children are NOT allowed on the coaching/player side of the field during a game. The only personnel that are allowed on the team side of the field are coaches, assistant coaches, referees, and timekeeper, and score keeper. Also, be VERY careful with the air horns, they can be very dangerous, one bast at or near a person can permanently damage a person's hearing.
IMPORTANT GAME INFORMATION
REFEREES - The head coach needs to talk to the Referee before every game, its is important that the Referee knows exactly what level game the game is (e.g., Lightning, Midget, Junior), what the level of checking is (e.g., Lightning - below the waist only, Midget/Junior - entire stick below the shoulder), the number of passes attempted before a shot on goal (e.g. Lightning 2 passes, Junior/Midgets - no pass minimum), and ask if the Referee call-out the number of passes for Lightning level, most do.
MYLA REFEREE MEMO & RULEBOOK - You need to have the MYLA Referee Memo from Lea Kusner (MYLA Head of Refs) and a copy of the rulebook with you for all of your games!
TRASH - Game/Practice fields - Pick-up all unclaimed and empty water/drink bottles and any other trash (wrappers) that is in the team area.
SCOREBOARDS - Many organizations do not have scoreboards, so you need to keep track of the score yourself and verify with the opposing team after every goal so you do not have a disputed score at the end.
WEATHER - If you see lightning anywhere CLEAR THE FIELD IMMEDIATELY and seek shelter in nearby buildings (not under any tree). Parents, players, lax sticks and lightning to not mix! The Referees will not allow you to restart play untill 30 minutes after the last lightning/thunder, so keep track of it. Check girls rules for minimum play time before a game can be called completed under weather/safety conditions.
ST. PETER'S/SHERWOOD HIGH SCHOOL FIELD PLAYABILITY GUIDELINES - To play or not to play, that is the question. Field playability has always been a subjective issue and everyone seems to have a different opinion on the matter. To insure SP lax consistency in determining whether or not a lax field is fit for play, the following criteria have been adopted. These benchmarks will make for easier and more consistent decisions while enhancing the recreation experience for our participants. SAFETY FIRST - Under any circumstances the safety of the participants is paramount. POTENTIAL FOR FIELD DAMAGE - Strong consideration must also be given to the potential damage to the turf and the length of time required for the field to recover. When determining field playability, the following guidelines should be followed:
*Large areas of standing water on any part of the playing field is just cause for cancellation.
*Any attempt to remove standing water from small areas should be done by digging a hole for the water to drain into, bailing or by a pump.
*During the course of inspection, any visible water or sound (squish) while walking is an strong indication that the field is probably unfit for play or practice.
*Footprints and the collection of mud/water around them is an indication that the field should be closed.
PLAYER/PARENT/COACH CONDUCT - We all come from different schools, neighborhoods, towns etc., but when the players put on the uniforms and you show-up for a game we are all ST. PETER'S LACROSSE! Please remind your assistant coaches, parents and players that they need to read and follow the PLAYER and PARENT guidelines posted on the St. Peter's Lacrosse website, they are from the Positive Coaching Alliance. ALL OF US need to work hard to ensure that the St. Peter's name and reputation is not tarnished by the misbehavior or poor sportsmanship of any of our coaches, players or parents!
