Umpire Information and Registration
Hello & welcome to the GYBA Umpires!
If you're seeking information regarding becoming an umpire at GYBA -'Thank you' for your interest. Here's some things you'll need to know:
1) Our league website is: www.gybatx.org.
2) You must be at least 16 y/o to begin, please. However some exceptions can be made for some 15 y/o.
3) "Know the Code". Study the ORMLB (www.mlb.org) - you may be surprised at what you thought you knew about the rules of the game!
Also review the GYBA exceptions to the rules listed on our website.
Each age level has different, added exceptions to the base game rules to promote fair play and learning the game. Finally, feel free to come watch our umpires at work. You'll learn by observing umpires at work and come to appreciate this profession from a different perspective.
As umpires, studying and reviewing the rules over and over again is good practice and a "requirement" to stay 'straight' and current on the game rules.
4) The 2019 fall season officially ends with the Blue Santa Tournament in November. See the website for more dates and information. Training opportunities are usually January to early March; mid-June to mid-August and scattered days in November and December. I also recommend you consider attending the South Texas Umpire Clinic held in San Antonio the last weekend of January.
5) Experienced umpires are always welcome to "apply" anytime with phone/e-mail interview.

Umpire Training Session
Umpire training are set for the following dates. Please meet at the Main Concession Building.
Tue. 02/05 6:30-8:30pm Classroom Training
Tue. 02/12 6:30-8:00pm Field 3, 6U/8U Field Instruction
Tue. 02/19 6:30-8:00pm Field 4, 10U Field Instruction
Thu. 02/21 6:30-8:00pm Field 7, 12U/14U Field Instruction
Tue. 03/05 6:30-8:00pm Makeup Session
Training is open to all neighboring youth baseball organizations, parents and coaches.
