Q: How to size a bat?

In-House Teams must use the following:

Please note in 2018 bat rules are changing; do not buy an expensive bat only to have to replace it in a year.

CAL RIPKEN BASEBALL DIVISION  5 years old up to and including 12 years old.
The bat may not exceed 33"in length, and the bat barrel may not exceed 2¼" in diameter.  Only 2¼" barrel non-wood bats marked BPF 1.15 will be allowed.  Wood 2 ¼" barrel bats are allowed.

13-15 BASEBALL DIVISION
The bat may not exceed 34" in length, and the bat barrel may not exceed 2 5/8" in diameter.  All aluminum/alloy barrel bats and all composite handle (only) aluminum/alloy barrels are allowed.  Only composite barrel bats certified and marked BBCOR .50 will be allowed.  Wood barrel bats conforming to the specifications of Official Baseball Rule 1.10 are allowed.

One of the most common and long standing methods of appropriately sizing a bat is as follows:

Hold the bat at the very end of the handle straight out in front of you. If the player can easily hold this bat without it sagging towards the ground then the weight of the bat is appropriate.

Speed of the swing is much more important than the weight.

Bat Length Guidelines:

Age-----Bat Length-----Player Height-----Bat Length
5-7-------24" - 26"---------5' - 5' 6"----------------32"
8-9-------26" - 28"---------5'6" - 6'-----------------33"

11-12-----30"-32"
