What To Expect From WINGS Football

We will be disciples of Christ

WINGS Football is a Christian sports ministry initiative, lead by godly men of character, with the purpose of drawing young men into a fellowship, growing together as brothers in Christ.

We will work hard and be highly disciplined

We will set the highest starndards for athletic training and preparation. 100% focus and maximum effort will be the goal during practice times. Disciplined commitment to exercise according to individually crafted training plans set for non-practice days and durring the off season will be emphasized as well.

We will teach individual responsibility and positive habit forming

Each player will be encouraged to excel according to his own potential and not that of his team mates. Baseline physical abilities will be assessed for each athlete during the off season and at the season start. High individual goals, enabeling objectives, and (home) training routines will be crafted for each athlete in speed, strength, agility and endurance. The results of periodic measurements will determine leadership roles and, to as much extent as possible, playing time. Honorable and extradornary habits, as evidenced by results, will be recognized and rewarded.

We will develop valiant young men

Valiance is a word lost on our society. We will seek to rekindle the term in our young men by teaching them to hold each other acountable to the concepts of: taking responsibility, respect for authority, hard work, discipline, physical and mental toughness, and a competitive spirit.

We will strive for honor above glory

We will strive as a team to place honor above glory. This standard will be our highest aim for coaches, parents, assistants, boosters, and players alike. Here are just a few ways we will do that: Keeping our word and our commitments. Playing by the rules and not playing dirty. Being more concerned about who’s name we represent (Jesus Christ’s) then about the score.

We will foster a team approach

Football is a team sport and every player will be encouraged to develop a mentality that no single player can win by himself. Every player contributes. We will teach our young men to see that this translates into other areas of their lives including their families, churches, and careers.

We will coach the whole player

God created us with heart, soul, strength, and intellect. In fact, He wants us to love him with all of these aspects of ourselves. When we are 100% committed to something and we use all aspects of our being, we will be much more successful. Our goal will be 100% effort on every play by every player and coach.

We will have fun

Football is fun! It can be hard work, but it should still be fun. We'll try to make sure every player has a good experience and wants to return next year.

We will be competitive

We will strive for excellence in the development of our strategy and abilities in the game by fostering a competitive spirit. We will measure our achievements, in part, based on the outcome of the games. We will learn from our wins and losses and imporve each week. We will use competition as a tool to challenge our young men to set the highest goals and standards.

We will "win in Gods service"

The "WINGS" concept will be a fundamental and frequent discussion point with the players, building up to the start of the season and beyond. We will not take this concept lightly. Through the guidance from our coaches, the players will develop a mission statement for each new season. Our young men themselves will determine how the TEAM will define winning for the upcomming season!
