    Recreation League Information
October 12, 2009  --   Brighton Youth Baseball Association (BYBA) offers a recreational league for players ages 4-10. This league will have TBall, Machine Pitch and Kid Pitch programs. All games will be played in town. All fees are set for each program and must be paid prior to being placed on a team.

The following is a breakdown of the Recreational League:

4-5 Year-Old TBall. This is the youngest age group and will consist of 4 and 5 year old kids. The fees will include a jersey and hat for each kid.

6-7 Year-Old Machine Pitch. This group will be split into two groups, 6-year-old's and 7-year-old's. Fees include a jersey, sliding pants, and a hat for each kid. 7 Year-Old games will have an umpire.

8 Year-Old Kid Pitch. This group of kids will hold a tryout and draft to form the teams. All kids that register are placed on a team, so the tryout is more for evening the talent in the first year of the Kid Pitch program. Fees include a jersey, a pair of sliding pants, and a hat. There will be 2 umpires for each game.

9-10 Year-Old Kid Pitch. This group of kids will hold a tryout and draft to form the teams. All kids that register are placed on a team, so the tryout is more for evening the talent across teams. Fees include a jersey, a pair of sliding pants, and a hat. There will be two umpires for each game.

Our umpires are paid umpires and they are typically 13-15 year old kids that play in the competitive league. We have one umpire at the 7-year-old games and try to have 2 umpires at the kid pitch level. The fees are higher at these levels to pay for the umpires.

We will schedule 2 practices per week for each team and there will be two games a week most weeks. We will have one week night game and a Saturday game almost every week of the season. There are a few weekends that we cannot schedule games as the fields are in use for other activities.

We begin online registration in January and form the teams in early April. The tryouts for the Kid Pitch age groups will be held prior to assigning teams. The coaches will draft from the tryout kids. The kids that do not tryout will be randomly placed on teams.

Practices will begin mid April and games will begin the 1st of May. We will complete all games and for all but the TBall division, there will be a post season tournament with a guarantee of three games. The total number of games should be 10-15, depending on the tournament. TBall is guaranteed 8 games, though we try to schedule 10.

Rainouts will be rescheduled for all games except TBall. TBall will only reschedule if the number of games drops below 8.

Game schedules will not be posted until mid to late April. We will not be able to play on some weekends, so the schedule will be formed around those restricted dates. But the following are the days you can expect to play throughout the season:

    Monday - 6-year-old Machine Pitch
    Tuesday - 8-year-old Kid Pitch
Wednesday - TBall and makeup games
    Thursday - 9/10-year-old Kid Pitch
    Friday - 7-year-old Machine Pitch
    Saturday - Everyone

The Rec League season is held through the months of May and June. There will be an End of Season Tournament for Machine Pitch and Kid Pitch Divisions held after the regular season is completed. It will be a week long event and will be completed the week leading up to the 4th of July. There will be no games from the 4th of July weekend on.

For the 2009 season, the regular season ended June 19 and the tournament was held from June 22 to June 29. The 29th was the championship game for each age division.

For the 2010 season, we will try to do the same. The season should end on or about Friday, June 18. The tournament should be scheduled to run from June 21 - June 28 with the Championship games to be played on June 28. If there are rain outs, the Championship games could be pushed out a day or two at most.
