EXTRA INNINGS with Adolf Oliver Busch
May 29, 2009 --
Hello wiffleball fans! Adolf Oliver Busch here with our newest helping of Extra Innings. This week we get to know Eastside Expos team captain Mark "Manni Mota" Sefner a little better.
Manni has been playing wiffleball for about a decade now. He came across the CCWA last summer on a drive home, stopped by half a week later to check out a game and joined within the next couple of days. He is one of the best hitters in the league and has a great batting eye.
When Manni's not playing wiffleball he's usually hanging out at one of the local watering holes or eating some El Jefe wings from Fire on the Mountain. He's a graphic designer by trade and has helped the league by re-designing many of the teams logos this past offseason.
1. What do you love most about wiffleball?
Tough one. The competition – the pitcher-batter duel. Taking cash from Danno per hit is great but nothing is as rewarding as throwing a screwball at el Dominicano's head, watching his knees buckle and getting the backwards K in the middle of the zone! "Que lastima, cabron!"
I enjoy me some smack talk too.
2. What are your three favorite albums
The Clash - Give 'em Enough Rope, Butthole Surfers - Rembrant Pussyhorse, TSOL - Dance With Me
3. Who’s the toughest batter to face in the CCWA? Toughest pitcher?
I haven't thrown against them but the Brothers Liepa (Karlis & Tony) are tough outs.
Pitcher? Mike Wilson has my number. But I might want to change my vote to Eric Keele after this coming weekend.
4. What are your three favorite burger toppings?
Avocado. Thick tomato. Stone-ground mustard.
5. Who’s your favorite MLB team and player?
I stopped following baseball after the '86 world series. But if I have to choose a current player I'd say Manny Ramirez. Despite the drug charges, that dude and his wack-ass antics are funny and great for baseball. Who else is chilling w/ the grounds crew in the Green Monster during a pitching change or catching fly balls against the fence and high-fiving fans?
6. What’s your fondest CCWA memory?
Too many fun times to count. Bookem and Omar going back-to-back walk off styles in the playoffs. Getting our ass handed to us by the Sox. The blur of All-Star weekend. All great times with cool dudes.
7. Pick your top three movies of all time.
Sex and Lucia. Leolo. Shogun Assassin.
8. What’s your favorite cheese?
Pepper jack or blue cheese.
One time Bookem bet me $70 that I couldn't eat a 2 pound brick of cheddar in an hour. He let me tap out for $30 with 10 minutes and 1/3 pound left. Not a huge cheddar fan anymore.
9. If you could play for any other CCWA team who would it be?
Any team. Maybe... Royals or Brew Crew.
10. What’s your favorite three TV shows?
Not much a TV guy Adolf. I'll go with Sports. Cartoons. Telenovelas.
11. How many pairs of shoes do you own?
Funny question Adolf. I count 16 pair in my daily rotation. 20-25 total. What ya getting at...?
12. What is the best refreshment to enjoy during wiffleball?
No-brainer: KOKANEE! MOLSON! LABATTS! Gotta represent. Delicious beer and maple syrup are all we have.
13. How long do you plan on playing in the CCWA?
I'll play as long as my aging bones let me.
14. What’s your hangover remedy?
Average hangover: water, advil, greasy food, exercise.
Big night out: puke, water, 30min shower, 1 or 2 light beers, watch Bandidas, eat grease.
15. If you were stranded on an island and could only eat three things for the rest of your existence what would they be?
Avocados. WINGS (from Fire on the Mountain). Valium.
16. Who’s your favorite Joe?
The only Joe I know is Señor Bock. He's okay, I guess...
17. How many countries have you been in? Name them.
We've been over this Adolf. I'm here legally. Work and wiffle visas. Not sure who you're working for but I'm done after this.
13 counties: US, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, New Zealand, Australia, OH CANADA!
Lost wiffles to Omar in Mexico last year.... not cool.
Thanks Mr. Busch. It's been real.

Hello wiffleball fans and welcome to Extra Innings. I'm Adolf Oliver Busch and to kick off our new feature we will be profiling Jackmove Giants team captain Matt Jones, the man of many nicknames.
"Corduroy" Jones was instrumental in helping the league form. Our inaugural tournament was at his house. He was a huge help in getting the field set up and his team is always a contender for the title. When he's not wiffling, "Purple Hazen" rocks the drums for the rock band Jackmove. He's been playing music for well over ten years now and can be seen playing in local seedy establishments.
