In addition to above applications, athletes must adhere to and provide:
All USOEC Resident Athletes, once accepted, are responsible for following USOEC procedures & protocol as described in the USOEC orientation, the USOEC Athlete Handbook, & the Freestyle Resident Athlete Program Guide.
ACCEPTANCE INTO THE RESIDENT PROGRAM
Being accepted into NMU is one step in the process of being a resident athlete. For your "official" acceptance into USA Wrestling's women's resident program, Coach Gillespie will need to complete the NGB Performance Standards page ~ this is where he determines what performance goals he expects you to meet (found inside 2009-10 Resident Athlete Application USOEC Residency application). Once this is completed, the USOEC will review your application and will determine your acceptance into the resident program. Your official acceptance notification will be given to Coach Gillespie and he will contact you about your acceptance.
FINANCIAL AID
Once a student athlete has been accepted into a resident program, regardless of their financial aid status, the USOEC will cover/fund their room and board while on-campus. You will see a charge on your student account for the cost of the room and board, but you will also see a corresponding credit (either the USOEC scholarships you the room and board or the B.J. Stupak scholarships pays for this cost).
If a student athlete is eligible to move off-campus (must be over 21 years old or lived on-campus (any college) for four or more semesters), their room is NOT provided by the USOEC. The rent must be paid for by the athlete, either by financial aid or other means.
When accepted as a resident athlete, the USOEC informs NMU's Financial Aid office of your status and this makes you instantly eligible for the B.J Stupak Olympic Scholarship & the TLC Laptop Initiative. Provided there is no missing information on the FAFSA and you have no academic issues that would make you ineligible, and you are enrolled in more than 6 credits, you should receive a full scholarship (maximum amount of $20,000 per year). Student athletes will need to pay in advance of receipt of the scholarship overage these fees: books, parking permits, and possible recreational pass (if chosen). There was a $315 limit for books last year, however. The scholarship will not pay more than $315 or whatever the new limit will be for 2009/2010.
NMU will issue any financial aid overage checks around the 3rd week AFTER the first day of classes. NMU's first day of classes this fall is Monday, August 30.
HOUSING
Coach Gillespie will room all the athletes. The USOEC informs the sports how many rooms they have and where on the floor; this year, the Olympic floor will be the fullest it has ever been. You will be living on the same floor as US Speedskating (short track), USA Boxing, USA Weightlifting and USA Wrestling-men's Greco-Roman teams do.
The rooms are configured in "suites". One suite will share a bathroom. There are two people in each room or four people per suite. The rooms are your typical college dorm room, except the USOEC does provide a color TV and a 4.3 cubit inch refrigerator. ACADEMICS

USOEC athletes have access to the USOEC Academic Coordinator to help and assist with academic needs pertinent to the USOEC at NMU. For info, please call Tony Tollefson at 906-227-2894.
PRACTICE
Practice will always start 1-3 weeks before NMU and MSHS classes start to properly orient athletes to the program.
The exception is if athletes' are participating in competitions right before practice begins i.e. Jr. Worlds or Cadet Pan Ams.
If there is a 3 week break between competitons prior to classes starting in the fall, we will always have the athletes' come in earlier than 1-3 days prior to classes starting.
All NMU students (including USOEC athletes) have access to the Academic & Career Counseling Center which in addition to above helps and assists with academic and career needs.
Fore more information about NMU academics, please view the NMU Links page
High School Students The USOEC also accepts high school students who have demonstrated their unique abilities nationally and internationally into resident athlete programs. All accepted high school students will live on the Olympic floor.
Accepted high school applicants may refer to much of the above info and will attend Marquette Senior High School
