8U Select Tryouts
 A tryout was added for this Saturday at 6pm at Western Regional Park field #9.
33 players ages 6, 7, and 8 years old participated in the 8U Select Team Tryouts at Western Regional Park on Thursday evening. The players showed off their pitching, hitting, fielding, and running to the travel and rec coaches that were present. Team(s) will be announced after Memorial Day. The Baseball Committee with the Western Howard County Youth Baseball/Softball League is expanding the recreation league offerings to include a Select League opportunity for registered recreation league players. These age group teams are intended for the more advanced and interested recreation league players and are being assembled to offer additional opportunities for development, inter-league scrimmages and tournament play.
We are in need of support for this new venture. We need coaches and assistant coaches for each age group and general support in advertising and promoting the new Select League. We hope to work closely with both the recreation and travel programs and develop the best of the recreation league players.
Below is an outline describing the basis of the Select League. If you are interested in coaching or assistant coaching one of these Select teams and if you have any suggestions to support the Select League in any other way, please contact us.
Thank you for your ongoing support and consideration, and for all you do to help our players, the league and our community.
Select Teams Program:
- Select teams formed from registered recreation league players per player age and under.
- No additional registration costs but there will be additional costs for team jerseys and tournaments.
- Anticipate one Select Team at age 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U. Younger players are encouraged to try out.
- Age groups established by age of player on April 30, 2013.
- One additional practice per week during regular season beginning around May 26, 2013.

Recreation league regular season rules apply to Select team games and vice versa. Pitch counts are cumulative.

Inter-league tournaments dependent on team age group as determined by teams and coaches.

Anticipate tournaments for all of the Select teams the weekends of 6/21/2013 – 6/23/2013 and 7/19/2013 - 7/21/2013. Additional tournaments and exhibitions per team age group as arranged by coach.
