The Austin Mudcats won this weekend's North Austin Optimist Fall Tournament, sweeping four games in convincing fashion.  Cats pitching allowed only seven runs in the four victories, while the offense put up 44 runs.

After a tight 3-2 Friday night win over the CAYL Rangers, the Mudcats bats warmed up with a 15-3 win over Lago Vista on Saturday, and then a 12-2 win over the NAO Astros followed by a convincing 14-0 shutout in the championship game against Lago Vista on Sunday.  

Good offense, good base running, good defense, good pitching.

The boys will be back at work Tuesday, preparing for a great final month of baseball.  

12U Sweeps Bastrop Bombers


   Bastrop (TX), The Mudcats 12u traveled to Lost Pines of Bastrop, Texas to play a double header against a talented Bastrop Bombers. The Mudcats started fast with a run in the 1st inning, followed by a run in the 2nd inning.  The game was centered around great defensive plays from both teams.  The Mudcats turned a double play to end the 2nd, and the Bombers made every play in the field, Mudcat hitters yielded just one strikeout.  Great at bats throughout the game led to a run in the 4th, and with 2 runs added in the 5th the cats seemed to be cruising to another victory.  A couple of late errors by the Mudcats defense along with timely hits from the Bombers, opened the door for the Bombers to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th, but Mudcat pitching remained stout and slammed the door for 5-3 victory.

   Game 2, The start of the second game began with a 4 run top of the 1st for the Bombers.  However, the Mudcats bats came alive in the 2nd, and they answered with 4 runs to tie the game.  A constant so far this fall has been the ability of our pitchers to to throw strikes, as they yielded 3 walks in two games.  Defense was great with a 5-3-6 double play ending the 4th inning.  The Mudcats bats erupted for 3 runs in the bottom of the frame to help the pitching sweep the double header.  Mudcats win 7-5.  On the day, both teams had 5 errors combined, both teams played great baseball. 

Austin Mudcats 12u Baseball 9-10-17

    Game 1, (Dripping Springs, Tx)- The Austin Mudcats 12u Baseball team embarked upon their maiden voyage today with a double header against two tough Hill Country Red and Black teams.  The Mudcats started against the HC Red team with a run in the first inning, all starting with a lead off walk, followed by multiple stolen bases.  The Mudcats dominated the game with pitching and defense, allowing two hits, 0 errors, and pitchers combined for 6 strike outs.  The Mudcats timely hitting in the 4th caused a flurry of runs too, in which they scored 6 runs in the frame, which met the run-rule set by the tournament rules.  The final score 8-0, 5 hits, no errors.  The Reds had two hits and one error.

    Game 2, the second game of the double header started with a rocket line drive up the middle in which the Mudcat pitcher made a diving snag, robbing a sure base hit.  The first error of the season resulted in a run for the HC Black.  The Mudcats answered in the bottom of the frame with a SAC fly to right.  While the show of pitching and defense created a tight ballgame, the Mudcats allowed 3 runs in the 4th.  Though they threatened often, they didn't have the timely hitting late in the day leaving 5 runners in scoring position. The final score was 5-1 HC Black, mudcats had 4 hits, and two errors.  HC-Black had, 5 hits, and zero errors.
