CHICORA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

#2 Millerstown Inn vs. #1 Last Laff

Last Laff took a 1-0 lead in the best of five Chicora League Championship Series with a 7-6 win over Millerstown Inn. Last Laff overcame a 6-1 deficit, to claim a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the 4th inning. Both pitchers dominated the final 3 frames, with no runs being scored after the 4th. Millerstown got on the board first on a 2-run homerun by Travis Trimbur in the top of the 1st inning. The Last Laff responded with a run of their own, but left runners in scoring position in each of the first 2 innings. Millerstown extended their lead to 6-1 with 4 hits in the in the top of the third; Trimbur, Erik Fuhrer, Glen Kilgore, and Dayne O'Donnell all had hits in the inning. Then, in the bottom of the 3rd, Last Laff rallied for 5 runs of their own to tie the game 6-6. Rick Belles led the inning off with an inside the park homerun; and Doug Augustine, Joe Callihan, and Dave Craig followed with RBI hits in the inning. In the bottom of the 4th, Chris Dietrich led off with a double for Last Laff, and was eventually driven home by an Eric McCue sacrifice fly to take the lead for good. Dave Berry got the win, pitching the distance for Last Laff, while Tim Dietrich pitched well in defeat, limiting the Last Laff to 9 hits. Callihan and Dietrich each doubled and singled for Last Laff. Brandon Goldinger was the only player in the game with 3 hits, with a triple and 2 singles for Millerstown, while Trimbur homered and singled and Furher chipped in 2 singles. Game 2 will be Thursday, August 12 at 7 Hills at 6:15.

Game 2 was decided in the 7th inning when Last Laff broke a 6-6 tie with 3 runs in the top half of the inning, then held on to win 9-7. Rick Belles led the 7th off with a double, and scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error on Tyler Callihan's bunt. Then, Joe Callihan stepped to the plate and blasted a 2-run homer for some insurance runs. Millerstown got 1 back in the bottom of the 7th, but left the tying runs on 1st and 3rd. Last Laff started the scoring in the top of the 1st, when Eric McCue led off with a walk, stole 2nd base, reached 3rd on a passed ball, and scored on a ground ball by Belles. Millerstown Inn quickly responded when Glen Kilgore hit a solo homerun to lead off the 2nd inning. In the 3rd inning, Millerstown took the lead 3-1 when Brandon Goldinger and Jason Farren put together back to back bunt singles. They were driven home by a Sluggo Smith sacrifice fly and a double by Kilgore. Last Laff bounced back with 4 runs of its own in the 4th; Shawn Bellis, Chris Miller, Keith Lehman, and Andrew "Larrytime" Larimore each had a hit in the inning. Millerstown got 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th, leading to the 6-6 tie after 6 innings. Goldinger, Brad Fuhrer, Dayne O'Donnell, and Brian Hobaugh all had hits in those innings. Top hitters for Last Laff were Joe Callihan with a homer and a single, Larimore with a double and single, and McCue with 2 singles. Millerstown was led by Kilgore's homerun and double. Goldinger, O'Donnell, and Fuhrer each chipped in 2 singles. Chris Bellis was the winning pitcher. Millerstown outhit Last Laff 12-11, and has outhit them 25-20 in the series. Last Laff leads the best of 5 series 2-0. Game 3 will be Sunday at 6:15 at 7 Hills.

Millerstown Inn avoided elimination Sunday by beating Last Laff 12-11. Millerstown opened the game with 6 runs in the top of the 1st inning, all with 2 outs. Glen Kilgore, Erik Fuhrer, and Jason Farren each had doubles in the inning, while Brian Hobaugh had a single. They added a run in the 2nd on back to back singles by Brandon Goldinger and Don Kilgore to extend their lead to 7-0. Then, the Last Laff scored 3 in the 2nd inning and 5 in the 3rd to take an 8-7 lead. Chris Miller had a double and a single in the two innings, while Chris Dietrich, Travis Bellis, Eric McCue, Doug Augustine, and Tyler Callihan each had hits. The Last Laff added to their lead in the 5th inning when Dave Craig drove in 2 runs with a 2-out single, making the score 10-7. In the top of the 6th, Erik Fuhrer got Millerstown within 2 runs when he hit a solo homerun. Then, in the 7th, Goldinger led off with a double and Travis Trimbur tied the game with a 2-run homer. They added 2 more on Sluggo Smith and Jason McCollough singles. In the bottom of the 7th, Last Laff got the tying run to 2nd base when Joe Callihan doubled with a man on first. They were able to sacrifice the 1 run home, but Callihan was stranded at 2nd when Millertown ended the game with a double play. Tim Dietrich was the winning pitcher. Fuhrer led the way at the plate with a homerun and 2 doubles. Goldinger had a double and a single and Don Kilgore added 2 singles. Miller and McCue had 2 hits apiece for Last Laff. 10 Millerstown players had hits in the game and 9 Last Laff players had hits. Last Laff leads the series 2-1. Game 4 will be Tuesday, August 17 at 7 Hills at 6:15.

Millerstown evened the series at 2-2 with a 14-12 victory over Last Laff on Tuesday, forcing a tie breaking, Game 5 in the Chicora League Championship Series. Millerstown broke a 2-1 game open in the bottom of the 3rd inning with 6 runs to take a 7-2 lead. In the inning, Millerstown put together 5 hits, including a homerun by Glen Kilgore and a triple by Erik Fuhrer. Last Laff would respond with 4 runs in the top of the 4th inning, led by Joe Callihan's double. Last Laff added 4 more in the top of the 5th, taking a 10-7 lead. In the bottom of the 5th, Millerstown tied the score at 10 on a solo homerun by Sluggo Smith and 3 more hits in the inning. In the top of the 6th inning, Last Laff took a 2 run lead. Callihan doubled in the inning. In the bottom of the 6th, Millerstown would get all the runs they needed when they scored 4, Fuhrer doubled to lead the way. Millerstown Inn turned a double play in the top of the 7th, then Last Laff managed to get the tying run to the plate. But, Tim Dietrich got the Last Laff batter to fly out to deep left field to end the game. Dietrich was the winning pitcher. Top hitters for Millerstown were Brandon Goldinger with a game opening solo homer, a double, and a single; Fuhrer with a triple, double, and single; Kilgore with homerun and a single; Travis Trimbur with a double and a single; Jason McCollough with 2 singles; and Smith with a homerun. Top hitters for Last Laff were Callihan, who went 4 for 4 with a homerun, 2 doubles, and a single; and Buddy Gibson and Doug Augustine each had 2 singles. The deciding Game 5 will be Thursday, August 19 at 6:15 at 7 Hills.

Last Laff finally got the job done, winning Game 5 by a score 13-7 en route to its 3rd consectutive Chicora Area Softball League Championship. It is the team's 4th Championship in the past 5 years, and 5th in the history of the team. Millerstown's Brandon Goldinger opened the game with a lead-off solo homerun. But Last Laff answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the 1st. The game remained close until the bottom of the 3rd inning when Travis Bellis broke out of a hitting slump with a 3-run homerun that extended the Last Laff lead to 8-4. Millerstown only managed to put 1 run across the plate in the next 3 innings while the Last Laff tacked on 5 more. In the 7th, Sluggo Smith hit a 2-run homer for Millerstown, but the rally came up short. Travis Bellis led the way at the plate for Last Laff with 2 homeruns, Rick Belles had an inside the park homerun and a single, Doug Augustine had 2 doubles, Erik McCue and Chris Miller each had 2 singles. For Millerstown, Don Kilgore went 4 for 4 with a triple, double, and 2 singles and Sluggo Smith homered and tripled. Millerstown out-hit Last Laff for the 5th consecutive game, they had 13 hits in the game and 66 in the series, while Last Laff had 11 in the game and 55 in the series. Chris Bellis was the winning pitcher.

2010 SEMI-FINAL RESULTS

#4 Weichey's Auto Glass vs. #1 Last Laff

The Last Laff drew first blood in the 1st inning, posting 3 runs; then added 3 more in the 2nd and never looked back in Game one of this Semi-Final Series, going on to win 14-4. Joe Callihan led the way offensively by going 3 for 4 with 2 homeruns (1 insidet the park, 1 over the fence), Tyler Callihan had a triple and 3 singles, Rick Belles had 2 doubles and a single, and Buddy Gibson had a double and 2 singles. Chris Bellis got the win in the pitcher's circle, with Dave Berry getting the save. Leading hitter for Weichey's was Jake Bauer with 2 singles. Game 2 will be Tuesday, August 3rd at St. Patrick's at 6:15.

Game 2 of this series was decided in the bottom of the 7th when Last Laff held off a Weichey's rally, winning the game 10-9. Early in the game, Weichey's took a 3-2 lead by putting together 4 hits in the bottom of the 2nd, highlighted by Ryan Rekich's 2-run homer. The Last Laff countered with 2 in the 3rd, sparked by Buddy Gibson and Doug Augustine who produced back to back extra base hits, a triple and a double. In the bottom of the third, Nate Flick tied the score with an inside the park homerun to right-center field. In the bottom of the 6th, with Last Laff leading by 1, Rekich and Adam Stutz had back to back singles that produced 2 runs and give Weichey's the lead. But, in the the 7th, Eric McCue started the inning for Last Laff by reaching on a 2-base error, then took third on a passed ball, and tied the game, scoring on an error. Doug Augustine later hit a 2-run blast to give the Last Laff enough runs to win the game. Dave Berry got the win for Last Laff, with Chris Bellis pitching in relief for the save. Last Laff will advance to the Championship Series, which will begin next week.

#3 Armstrong Beer vs. #2 Millerstown Inn

Millerstown avenged their loss in last weekend's Class B State Tournament by outlasting Armstrong Beer by a score of 14-7. Travis Trimbur led the way for the winners offensively with a long homerun, and 2 additional hits. Tim Dietrich pitched for the win. The next game of this series will be on Thursday, August 5th at St. Patrick's.

Armstrong evened this Semi-Final series at 1-1 with an 11-7 victory over Millerstown Inn. Amrstrong was led by the bat of Mark Flick who homered, DJ Kutch and Lee Solada added 3 hits apiece. Kenny Bussard earned the win, pitching for Armstrong. Glen Kilgore posted a homerun for Millerstown. The third and deciding game of this series will be played on Monday, August 9th at 7 Hills, with the winner advancing to the Chicora League Championship Series, which will begin Tuesday, August 10th at 7 Hills.

Sluggo Smith broke a 10-10 tie with a bases loaded single that drove in 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th, boosting Millerstown Inn to a 16-10 victory over Armstrong Beer in Game 3 of this Semi-Final matchup. Armstrong was first on the board when Wit Witenski hit a homerun in the top of the first inning. Then, Millerstown answered with 4 runs of its own when Travis Trimbur hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 1st, and Erik Fuhrer had a 2-run inside the park homerun. The game remained close through 5 and a half innings, highlighted by an Armstrong homerun by Jason Elkin in the 2nd. Then, after Smith broke the tie with his single in the 6th, Glen Kilgore followed it with a solo homerun of his own. Tim Dietrich has the winning pitcher. Millerstown advances to the Chicora League Championship Series, beginning Tuesday, August 10th at 7 Hills against Last Laff.

2010 PLAYOFF RESULTS - 1ST ROUND

#7 Chicora VFW vs. #2 Millerstown Inn

The playoffs got under way on Sunday with an 11-1 Millerstown win over VFW. Sluggo Smith, Glen Kilgore, and Erik Fuhrer led the way with homeruns for Millerstown, while Brock Bowser provided VFW its only run with a homer of his own. Tim Dietrich was the winning pitcher. Game 2 will be Tuesday, July 27 at St. Wendelin's.

Millerstown closed out the series with a 21-11 win over VFW. The score was tied 4-4 through 2 innings when Millerstown exploded for 11 runs in the top of the 3rd. Leading the way offensively for Millerstown was Sluggo Smith and Brent Bell with two homeruns apiece. Erik Fuhrer, Brad Fuhrer, and Glen Kilgore each added a homerun as well. Tim Dietrich picked up the win, his second of the series. This is the 6th consecutive year that Millerstown has advanced to the Semi-Finals. They will square off against Armstrong Beer on Tuesday, August 3rd at 7 Hills.

#6 Ball's Beer Distributor vs. #3 Armstrong Beer

Game 1 of this series was close all the way, but Armstrong pulled away at the end, winning 12-8. Ball's started with 2 runs in the top of the first and Armstrong responded with 4 of its own in the bottom of the first. Rick Boltz highlighted Armstrong's offense with a solo homerun in the 4th inning. Scott Petras picked up the win on the pitcher's mound. Game 2 will be Wednesday, July 28 at 7 Hills.

Armstrong Beer Distributor needed everything they had to finish off Ball's Beer Distributor, beating them 8-7 Wednesday. Kenny Bussard got the win, while Scott Petras picked up the save, pitching in relief, entering in the 6th inning. Ball's challenged with baserunners several times late in the game, but were stopped short by Armstrong's defense, which was highlighted by DJ Kutch's catch on a Sammy Wiley line drive. This is the 16th consecutive year that Armstrong has advanced to the Semi-Finals. They will face off against Millerstown Inn on Tuesday, August 3rd at 7 Hills.

#5 County Line vs. #4 Weichey's Auto Glass

In Game 1 of this series, County Line came from behind in the 7th to win 12-9. Weichey's held a 4 run lead in the top of the 7th inning when Dickie Crissman closed the lead to 1 with a 3-run homerun blast. Then, the County Line went on to score 4 more in the inning, boosted by an RBI double to the left-center gap by Jake Johns. In the bottom of the 7th, Weichey's managed to get the bases loaded with only 1 out, but failed to score. Marty Gray was the winning pitcher. Game 2 will be Tuesday, July 27 at St. Patrick's.

Weichey's evened the series at 1 game each with an 11-10 win over County Line Tuesday. Weichey's had a 7 run lead entering the bottom of the 7th inning but County Line scored 6 to pull within 1 run, with runners on base, with only 1 out. Then, Chad Bachman and Jake Bauer turned a double play to end the game and stop the County Line comeback. Dan Stutz picked up the win for Weichey's. Game 3 will be Wednesday, July 28 at St. Patrick's.

Game 3 was played the way a #4 seed vs. a #5 seed game should be played, right down to the wire. In the end, Weichey's Auto Glass held on to advance to the Semi-Finals, winning 6-5. County Line Tavern got on the board first, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. The score would remain 1-0 until the 4th, when Weichey's picked up all of their 6 runs. The rally began with a Justin Kriley triple, and was supported by Greg Dills, Kyle Texter, Chad Bachman, and Jarod Kriley who all had hits in the inning. Weichey's held a 6-3 lead into the top of the 6th, when Dickie Crissman led the inning off with a solo shot to left. Then, in the top of the 7th, County Line managed to score 1 run, but Weichey's defense held strong, leaving runners at 1st and 3rd base. Dan Stutz picked up the win, while Hot Toddy Covert entered in the 6th inning to pick up the save. This is Weichey's 1st trip to the Semi-Finals in the team's 7 year existence. They will face off against Last Laff on Monday, August 2nd at 7 Hills.

Barkeyville Church of God Tournament RESULTS

BALL'S BEER DISTRIBUTOR WINS JULY 3RD TOURNEY

Ball's Beer Distributor went undefeated to win the July 3rd 1-Day Tournament. They knocked off Weichey's Auto Glass in the Championship Game.

In the first game of the day, Weichey's faced off against Last Laff. Last Laff held an 8 run lead in the top of the 7th, but Weichey's mounted a comeback that came up just a bit short and Last Laff won the game 15-12.

In the second game, Ball's Dist. topped Unwired 6-2.

Then, in the King Seat Game. Ball's got 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning against Last Laff. That proved to be all that they needed, going on to win the game 3 runs to 0.

In the loser's bracket game, Weichey's edged Unwired 9-6.

So, Last Laff and Weichey's faced off again. This time Weichey's scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the 8th, to win 11-10 in extra innings.

In the Championship, Ball's pitching and defense proved to be too tough, and they won 8-2.
