The Grump's Corner

February 1, 2011

Since we last met, it really hit the fan! Snow and more snow, and ice storms and then a little more snow. It looked like Brunhilda III would be entombed until the Spring thaw. Luckily, by the miracle of rain, a little mild weather and the breaking up of some ice mounds by sporadic garbage collecting, she broke free of her icy tomb. Not so lucky was my grumpette who on her way to work slipped on some black ice and cracked her ankle in 3 places. Even though she is partially incapacitated, it has slowed her down in fulfilling her Columbiette activities and has been delegating authority via the Don Ameche. She has also conscripted her Mom, Dad, Aunt Betty and her Brother and Sisters in law to get all the necessary paraphernalia for the Columbiette State Convention printed, collated and mailed out to the delegates to the convention.
We are now in the Long Island Chapter Charity Drive and , as I under-stand it, the chance books were dumped in our laps by our DD. Once again we never got any work on a kickoff meeting. It has been several years since we actually received any kind of notice of a kickoff meeting. Is there any thought of attending the dinner and dance? In the past there was stiff competition to get tables for what was labeled the ?Charity Ball? and held at Antuns. There were some great celebrations– 4 Star Food ad per Flamin’ Forks, the grand entry march by the officers and dignitaries, the occasional floor shows and the suspense of the drawings. The most outrageous drawing occurred when they couldn’t get a rotating drum for the stubs and had to opt for drawing them from a garbage can, A task given to the wives of the Hierarchy. This caused a lot of grumbling, especially from our then GK claiming the drawing was a phony until the Grand Prize winner was announced– a ticket he sold to one of his relatives. This was a first for the Council but not the last as our immedicte PGK was a recent winner.
Have to go now as we are getting ready to take the Grumpette to the Bone Doctor to do whatever to get her to use two feet!
Till next month —See Ya!!
