Ms. Dieca Wright started dancing at the age of three. Her Mom signed her up initially because she couldn’t sit still. Little did she know it would become a life long passion. During her childhood she was blessed to have many wonderful teachers and grateful to have several amazing performance opportunities. In high school she moved from her home to attend Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts. It was there that she started to study dance at a professional level. Moving on to College, Mrs. Wright attended Brigham Young University on a dance scholarship. She performed with the dance team as well as the Modern Dance Ensemble. While at BYU, one of the top dance schools in the country, she was able to study under the tutelage of several dance masters such as Chris Ollerton, Cathy Black, Pat Debenham, and Sandra Allen, just to name a few. She had many leadership roles and was chosen by her peers as Dancer of the Year. Awards also received were Best Choreographer and Dancer’s Choice. While in college, Mrs. Wright also owned a small dance studio which was home to the Starstrutters Performing Dance Team.

Mrs. Wright moved to Chicago, IL and while there became very involved in the dance scene. She taught at Dance Center Evanston, one of the premier dance studios involved in training young dancers at a professional level. She also became involved with the Illinois Drill Team Association first as a judge and later in the capacity as a Judging Committee Member and the Special Events Officer. She also coached the Barrington Broncettes for 6 years. In her reign as Director of the Broncettes they were awarded many prestigious titles including recognition such as Varsity Brands Spirit Award which credits outstanding teams in terms of leadership, academics, and community service. They were also IDTA state champions in 2006 for Pom and Jazz. Mrs. Wright continues to travel to Chicago to choreograph for the award winning Broncettes.

Mrs. Wright has also danced professionally for the Momentum Dance Company as well as the Schaumburg Flyers. Currently she is a judge for Team Dance Illinois and has been hired in the capacity of a Judge and Director Trainer, teaching at TDI’s annual seminars. She loves every aspect of dance but particularly enjoys sharing her knowledge and skill set with others, particularly teenaged girls.

Mrs. Wright is SO excited to be the new Drill Team Director and Dance Teacher at Haltom High School! There is no other place she would rather be! We are going to have a great year!
