SPORTMANSHIP AWARD
This section is in recognition for winning the Sportsmanship Award from LIJSL which is based upon the behavior of players, parents and coaches during a game. Sportsmanship is not about "winning" or "losing", but about playing soccer in a sportsman-like manner.

SPORTSMANSHIP RATING SYSTEM

As of the fall of 2001 LIJSL decided to change the format of the Sportsmanship Award. The system of rating the behavior of players, parents and coaches during a game and earning the sportsmanship award based on the number of points remain unchanged. As in the past, one Sportsmanship Award and patches are awarded to each team in a division based on the highest number of points received in a season.

However, three additional awards (Gold, Silver and Bronze Chevron's), are now being bestowed on teams based upon a required number of sportsmanship points.

As Listed Below:
8 Game Season - Gold 355-360 pts, Silver 345-354 pts, Bronze 335-344 pts
9 Game Season - Gold 400-405 pts, Silver 390-399 pts, Bronze 380-389 pts
10 Game Season - Gold 445-450 pts, Silver 435-444 pts, Bronze 425-434 pts

For Example: In a nine game season the maximum amount of sportsmanship points that can be awarded is 405 points (9 X 45). As in the past, the team with the highest point total in the division will be presented the Sportsmanship Award.

Like the Sportsmanship Patch, these Chevron's can be proudly displayed on the player's jersey - left sleeve. Any team winning the Sportsmanship Award should wear it with pride for its exemplary accomplishment. But a team that falls short in sportsmanship points should not feel that they have "lost". Sportsmanship is not about "winning" or "losing", but about playing soccer in a sportsman-like manner.

Therefore it is hoped that this new format will encourage teams to further promote sportsmanship and fair play. Good Luck & Fair Play the Sportsmanship Committee.
