In 2016-17, Coach Andrew Evans enters his 5th season with Pierce County High Schools’ Baseball program, the first as the Head Coach. 

Coach Evans is originally from Milledgeville, Georgia where he graduated with honors from Baldwin County High School. He earned Team MVP Honors following his Sophomore, Junior and Senior seasons.  He earned All-state honors his senior season hitting .524. Coach Evans continued his studies at Georgia College and State University.  Before leaving GCSU, Coach Evans received his MAT concentrating in Kinesiology as well as a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.

While attending GCSU as a 4 year letterman, Coach Evans had the opportunity to further his baseball knowledge under very well-respected coaches. He spent a great deal of his career as a designated hitter, which allowed him to learn and understand baseball from the hitter's side of the game. During his career, he was a part of three Peach Belt Conference championship teams (2006, 2007 & 2010) and 4 births into the NCAA tournament (2006, 2007, 2009 & 2010) in the southeast regional.   As a senior, he helped lead the team to a Southeast Regional Title (2010), and his team made an appearance in the Division II College World Series where the Bobcats finished 3rd in the nation in NCAA Division II and also broke multiple NCAA offensive records. He was also elected 5 times to the Peachbelt Presidential Honor Roll.

Coach Evans came to the Bears in the transition year from AA to AAA GHSA Baseball and since he has been with the program, the team has won three Region championships, had 2 appearances in the Elite 8, and finished in the top 10 state rankings in three of those four years while appearing in the state playoffs every year.  He was named Region 1-AAA region assistant coach of the year 3 times (2013, 2014 & 2015).  He has also been named FCA Coach of the Month (Jan 2015). 

Jacob Evors is a two year coach on the Bears baseball staff. Jacob is a 4th grade Science and Social Studies teacher at Patterson Elementary School. Jacob’s primary responsibilities on the field will be to work with hitters and infielders and be the head JV coach.

Jacob is a homegrown product of the program having graduated from Pierce County High School in 2007 and playing under Coach Gay for the 2005-2007 seasons. Jacob helped the Bears win the first region championship in 13 years in 2007 and advance to the Elite 8 round of the playoffs. After graduating high school Jacob had the opportunity to further his baseball career at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. In his stay at ABAC he posted 28 homeruns and drove in over 100 RBI’s. After ABAC Jacob was again given the opportunity to further his career at Brewton Parker College where he helped the Barons finish both seasons ranked in the top 20 in the nation and to win a conference tournament championship. He finished his baseball career at Brewton Parker College with a career batting average of .315, 54 HR, and driving in over 200 RBI’s during his 4 year career.

Tyler Rogers is entering his first year at Pierce County High School. He is a 2004 graduate of Jefferson County High School in Louisville, Georgia, where he played baseball, basketball, and football. After graduation he attended Valdosta State University where he received a Bachelors degree in Health & Physical Education. After college, Rogers spent 3 years at Dublin High School where he was part of the 2009 baseball State-Runner Up team. Rogers comes to the Bears from Long County where he coached baseball, football, and softball for 5 years. Coach Rogers is married to the former Kailey Hires of Jesup, Georgia, and they have 2 beautiful girls, McKinley & Tate.

Coach Rogers' will serve as the pitching coach as well as oversee the catchers for the Bears. 

 

 

Jamie Ammons entered his fourth and final season as a member of the Bear baseball staff in 2015, Coach Ammons left the Bear program to go back home to his home school and team of the Appling County Pirates so we wish him well in years to come (except when he plays us).  In 2012, he was a member of the AA State Runner-up Coaching staff as the head JV Coach and assistant Varsity coach.  The 2013 season saw the Bears win the Region 1-AAA championship, and second straight Elite 8 appearance with Ammons on staff.  The 2014 campaign was no different for the Bears, the baseball team finished the season 27-7 while capturing the Region 1-AAA Championship in back to back years with an Elite 8 appearance. Continuing the 2015 season, Coach Ammons will assume the role of assistant Varsity baseball coach working primarily with the infielders and also serving as the team’s academic coach.  Originally from Appling County, Jamie graduated high school in 2006 as Valedictorian.  Jamie continued his studies by attending Georgia College and State University and in May 2010 earned a Bachelor of Science degree.  In May 2011, Jamie graduated with his Master’s in the Art of Teaching specializing in Secondary Education Biology from GCSU.

While attending GCSU, Jamie played under some instrumental coaches: Chris Calciano: Area Scout with Boston Red Sox, Tom Carty: current Head Coach at GCSU, and Zeke Mitchem: current Assistant Baseball Coach at GCSU.  During his playing career, the team won a Peachbelt Conference Championship and also made an appearance in the NCAA Division II Regional’s in 2007.  After his three playing seasons, Jamie received the opportunity to join the renowned staff of GCSU as an assistant coach for two seasons 2010-2011. In 2010, the Bobcats earned the title of Peachbelt Conference Champions while continuing their magical season by becoming Southeast Regional Champions granting the team a Division II College World Series appearance in which the team finished third in the Nation, losing their only games to the top two teams in the Tournament.  While at GCSU, Jamie assisted in all areas of the Bobcat Baseball Program and had the opportunity to coach 3 All-Americans and 5 players that currently are playing professional baseball.

Jamie will be teaching in the Physical Science department at the high school as well as serving as Director of Football Operations for the football staff.   In his fourth year of teaching he continues to strive to be instrumental in the athletic development of Bear youth, while promoting good character and furthering his professional development.

Coach Brooker, a PCHS alum of 2000, returned to Pierce County as the junior varsity head coach in the 2006 season and has remained as the varsity assistant since 2006. As a player for the Bears, Brooker set or tied 17 records for the program including career records for Batting Average, Stolen Bases, Slugging Percentage, Runs Scored, Runs Batted In, Hits, Doubles, Triples, Total Bases and Extra Base Hits. The former PCHS captain went on to play collegiate baseball for Chattahoochee Valley, Brewton-Parker and Thomas University. Playing shortstop for the TU Nighthawks, Brooker led the team in batting average in 2003 and was named an Academic All-American in 2003 and 2004. He was named Thomas University’s Male Athlete of the year for 2003-2004 and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2005.

Coach Brooker experienced 151 bear victories in his 7 years working in the program. He was named the Region 2-AA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2007, 2008, and 2011 and coached the 2012 state runner-up team with head coach Greg Gay and assistant Jamie Ammons.

Furthermore, the team represented Region 2-AA in the Elite 8 in five of the seven years he coached. Coach Brooker teaches social studies courses at Pierce County High School and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Thomas University, a Master’s degree from Troy University and a Specialist degree from Nova Southeastern University.

Coach Carter coached at PCMS for the 2001. Coach Carter also coached at PCHS as well.

Coach Doster was hired to be the skipper of the 2011 PCHS JV Bears. Coach Doster will also be an assistant varsity coach to varsity head coach Keith Mobley and assistant coach Brett Brooker.

Prior to coming to Pierce County, Coach Doster served as the head coach at Monroe Area High School reaching the final four in 1994. Coach Doster also served as the GACA head coach for the North All-Star baseball team.

Along with Coach Brett Brooker, Coach Doster was named Region 2-AA Assistant Coach of the Year.

Coach Gay recently finished his tenth year at Pierce County High School in Blackshear, Georgia, as the Head Baseball Coach. Under Greg’s leadership, the Bears won their second ever region baseball championship in 2007 and repeated that feat in 2008. In 2012, the Bears achieved new heights as they set numerous school records including total number of wins in a single season going 30-9 and finishing as the 2-AA State Runner Ups. The 2015 season set the stage for a new era in the program as the Bears won the Region 1-AAA championship for the third straight year. 

Over this nine year period, the Bears record was 233-82, winning five Region Championships, three Region Runner-ups, one State Final appearance, one Final Four appearance, six Elite 8 appearances, eight Sweet Sixteen appearance, and six top 10 final poll rankings to include a #3 ranking in 2008 and #2 in 2012. He received the Region Coach of the Year Awards in 2007, 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2015. In 2012, he was selected as the AA Georgia Dugout Club Coach of the Year. Also, in 2013, Greg served as a coach on the Southeast Georgia Dugout Club All-star staff. In the eight years as head coach at PCHS, the facilities have undergone vast improvements to include a 5,600 square foot indoor practice facility and most recently a new grilling area donated in honor of Timmy Lowman.

Greg has over 21-years of baseball coaching experience to including thirteen as a head coach. In those thirteen years, including three seasons at Bacon County, Greg has a .732 winning percentage by compiling a record of 282-103 which is an average of over 20 wins a season. In those thirteen years, he has helped 29 young men receive baseball scholarships, four being at the division one level.   

Academically, the program at PCHS also excelled. In 2010, the baseball program set a new academic standard with a team GPA of 3.6.

Soon after graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1988, Greg joined the USMC and is a veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Upon completion of duty, he graduated with honors from South Georgia College while serving as a student assistant for Scott Sims in the Tiger’s Baseball Program. Greg continued his education completing a Bachelor of Science in Education in Health and Physical Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University graduating Magna Cum Laude. He furthered his education at NOVA Southeastern University completing a Master of Science in Teaching and Learning and an Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership and Administration.

Greg has been married to his wife, Amanda, for the last 24 years and has a 22-year old son, Nate, who was the catcher on the 2012 team graduated from PCHS with a 4.0 Grade Point Average.

Coach Mobley came to PCHS as the junior varsity head coach and assistant varsity coach in the 2007 baseball season.

In 2009, Coach Mobley was inducted into the Brewton-Parker College Hall of Fame. Coach Mobley was elected captain of the baseball team as both a freshman and sophomore while at Brewton-Parker College, over the course of 61 games Mobley maintained a batting average of .387, with 19 homeruns and 92 RBIs, an average of almost 1.5 RBIs per game. After graduating from Brewton-Parker College in 1984, he transferred to Valdosta State, where he played in 1985 college world series.

Coach Mobley took over the helm as the head coach of the PCHS Bears for the 2011 season garning a 17-14 record with a trip to the GHSA Elite 8 playoffs. Coach Mobley was also named the 2011 Region 2-AA Coach of the Year.

With the return of Coach Gay as the head coach for the 2012 season, Coach Mobley left PCHS to take the head coaching position for the Brantley County Herons.

David O'Neal joins the 2013 Bear baseball staff this season working with outfielders and assisting with pitchers. O’Neal graduated from PCHS in 2009. He was a four year starter on the PCHS baseball team during the 2006-2009 seasons. As a pitcher, O'Neal went 27-8 during his career. O'Neal was also a part of two region title teams in ‘07 and ‘08. He played in two elite 8's and three sweet 16's. In O'Neal's first ever playoff game vs. Screven County, he pitched a no hitter and was a walk away from a perfect game in a 7-0 victory. O’Neal earned second team all-region as a pitcher his sophomore year and first team all-region his junior and senior seasons. He was named AA region pitcher of the year as a senior. O'Neal was also a member of the preseason all-state team entering his senior season.

 

After graduation O'Neal attended South Georgia College in Douglas, GA and played for Coach Scott Sims. As a freshman, O'Neal ended the season with a 4-1 record with 2 saves and named to the second team all-conference as a closer. During his sophomore season, he went 2-3 in an injury shortened season. Also, during his sophomore season, the SGC baseball team was runner ups in the conference tournament and advanced as the number 2 seed in the district tournament in Tennessee. During the district tournament, SGC went 3-0 and earned the right to play in the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. In the World Series, SGC went 1-2 and finished the season as the #7 ranked team.
