If you've raced for any length of time now, you're probably seeking a Sponsor, or you may already have some kind of help from some kind of sponsorship to help pay for your racing. Most of us know that a Sponsor is someone you can represent and be able to compete in the sport you love most and have them pay your debts.
Now, there are many different levels of sponsorship in sports as a whole, but in BMX we're usually seeking the big factory ride. A sponsorship where all of your travel expenses, entry fess, equipment and food expenses are paid and you just race your bike and enjoy all the perks that come with being a factory rider. I mean, they've got it made, right? Who wouldn't want a factory sponsorship and be able to enjoy BMX debt free?
What if your whole life could be sponsored and all of your debts paid for and you could guarantee that you'd have the ride for the rest of your life? Could there possibly be anything like that in life? Actually, there is.....
Ancient texts written by more than 40 different authors over a 1200 year span speak of "Life's Ultimate Sponsorship". The collection of these books is what we know as The Bible. Now you're probably thinking, "What?" I thought the Bible was just a list of "Thou Shalt Nots", or that it was something that somebody wrote down to make people believe in "religion". It's not either of these but it's much, much more. In fact, the theme of the Bible is more like a sponsorship than you may realize.
The message of the gospel (Good News) of truth, that the Bible tells about, is simple and summed up in John 3:16. God loved each of us so much that He send His one and only son (Jesus) to pay for all of our sins, or debts, by sacrificing His own life for us even though he was without sin. Nothing we have done or ever could do could pay this debt we owe to the God of all Creation except for acknowledging His sacrifice and asking Him to "sponsor" us by asking Him to come live inside our hearts and help us follow Him. For you see, none of us are perfect and nobody has lived a perfect (sinless) life. Nobody except for Jesus Christ, God's only son.
Now, you may be thinking, "Great, now somebody is preaching religion at me again". Actually, the definition of religion is 'man trying to make himself presentable to God by doing good deeds or practicing traditions to make Himself holy'.
Practicing a certain religion or doing good deeds alone will never make you holy enough to stand before God on your own merits. Besides the fact that you'd have to be perfect from now on, you'd have to cover all the imperfections (Sins) from your past. None of us could ever do that. Instead, I'm encouraging you to seek out the truth and embark on a relationship with God Almighty, through Jesus Christ, who desires to have a close relation ship with each and every one of us.
He wants to give us the "sponsorship". He alone can take away all of our sins and cover our imperfections. Having a relationship with Him is the greatest sponsorship anyone could ever have.
