Voting on the GDWL's most memorable moment of 2003 season
March 16, 2004 --
Well there is one award/honor that we didn't even think about, the most memorable moment of the 2003 season, now that's pretty important, it's also a hard award to award, hard to remember anything. Well we're going to show you a list & if you have a memeorable moment that wasn't listed, let us know, now here's the list:
1. Justin Bailey's shoe hitting the neighbors S-10 during a night game.
2. Katherine Held going yard 3 times in the same round of the fall homerun derby.
3. The July 21st triple header
4. Dr. Funky Green (Josh Smith) getting hit in the shin by the solid wiffleball by a linedrive hit by William.
5. Chestar drives in game winning run in bottom of the 3rd in one of the regular season games.
6. Katherine Held strikes out in the bottom of the 3rd to cause the G. Bears to lose their undefeated win streak.
7. Kevin White goes 4-4 during the only regular season game of his career.
8. Chestar's battle with mono followed by a strained back muscle & then tonsilitis.
9. Dr. Funky Green's extreme case of Poison Ivy, he plays an exhibition game despite doctor's request.
10. Funky Green bobbles a fly ball numerous times then smacks it to Kevin while ball is still in mid air, & Kev catches it for the out.
11. Les Milam Jr. drops by for a visit & hits a few bambino's (homeruns) during that day's exhibition game.
12. Chestar & Dr. Funky Green encounter the "Mexican/fumachoo man" after practice.
13. Ryan Hale's absence for 3 months while rumors speculate.
14. William Held, Dr. Funky Green, Chestar, Justin Bailey, & Matt "Hollywood" Thornton partake in so far what's been the only shirtless game in GDWL history.
15. Kevin White, Josh "Dr. Funky Green" Smith, & Greg "Chestar" Sowards are inducted into the GDWL Hall of Fame.
If you have any suggestions for additional moments, please tell me, meanwhile, e-mail me at silverhawk74@hotmail.com to cast your vote for what should be the most memorable moment of the GDWL 2003 season.

Season opener finally comes to pass...
May 9, 2004 --
Well finally, we got around to having the season opener. All of us (Dr. Funky Green, Hollywood, Fashionably Late, & william held) were outside & just decided to go ahead & do it. William Held's new wiffleball alter-ego is "Killer." Vipers (soon to be re-named) were a little rusty during the preliminary practice game before the season opener, but decided to go through with it, the Green Bears also appeared a little nappy, but agreed to continue. They started at about 3:30 PM & Finished at about 4:05 PM, not a long game at all, since they only played one out per team each inning (due to the field gaining size). Katherine took the mound for the G. Bears & William "Killer" took the mound for the Vipers. It was a pretty good battle out on the Garrett Drive culdisac, the final score Green Bears 1, Vipers 0. Dr. Funky Green & Killer developed a new, mystery pitch during spring training & Killer tried it out when Dr. Funky Green went up for his first at bat, the result...Dr. Funky Green hit it out of the ballpark. Here's Dr. Funky Green on the experience, "Well that pitch is rather tricky, I was so lucky that I hit it at all, it was coming right at me & that particular ball really hurts if it hits you, so I actually tried to get out of the way & I closed my eyes & defensively swung the bat, I got lucky & I made contact & hit a line drive homerun out in left-center field." Killer had this to say "Josh was so lucky to hit that, I didn't expect him to hit a homerun, I mean it's a tricky pitch."
For more results from the GDWL regular season opener, go to the game results section...
THE VOTES ARE IN, THE WINNER FOR THE 2003 GDWL MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT IS: When Josh Smith aka Dr. Funky Green was hit in the shin by the new, hard material wiffleball due to a linedrive hitting the pavement & then taking a bad hop onto the doctor (hit by William "Killer" Held).
Thank you for your votes!
runner-up's:
The shirtless game
the hall of fame inductions
July 21st triple header

Dr. Funky Green wins player of the month, wiffleball coming of age in H-Cane?...
June 11, 2004 --
The results are in for May Player of The Month:
Dr. Funky Green - 1 vote
Hollywood - 1 vote
Killer Held - 1 vote
Not much participation, but whatever, we decided to give it to the doctor because his statistics are much higher than hollywood's or killer's, no offense fellas. He didn't win it because he is the commissioner & he's arrogant, it's not like that, he got it because he deserved it more than the other two. "This isn't the way that I exactly wanted to win it, but whatever, a win is a win, I know that either Fashionably Late or I deserved it & since no one voted for her, I should have got it, because Hollywood's & Killer's stats were nowhere near mine, I say that with no offense intended. And NO I didn't win because I'm the commissioner! So thank you for this award" that's what Dr. Funky Green had to say.
In other news, Hollywood & Dr. Funky Green went to McJunkin night at the Alley Cats game at Watt Powell Park (in which the cats won, 1-0) when they ran into fellow wifflepals The Polish Wonder, Cory Preece, & Matt Stowers, they got to talking about wiffleball & Zep brought up the idea of combining the GDWL, MWL, & others (not including the pandas) into one association, but with divisions so that it wouldn't be so awkward, so now we are faced with that decision, if you feel that we shouldn't do it, e-mail us & we will consider your comment(s). But Dr. Funky Green is for it, as is Cory Preece, & Hollywood. Check out the website at www.leaguelineup.com/hcw
Thanks for listening, keep it up.

A game in the sun, & shadows displaying the fun...game 2 & more.
July 1, 2004 --
Game 2 of the GDWL regular season took place yesterday evening on June 30th. It was a very unmercifully hot day. They decided to go with one out per inning & to limit the pitching changes in games. In attendance for the Green Bears: Chestar finally made his 2004 debut, not even showing up for Spring Training or Practices, but attending supporting with Dr. Funky Green, Chestar was coming off of a softball injury which didn't affect him too much. For the Vipers: the usual duo, Hollywood & Killer Held, both anxious to get another game underway. This was a game of many homeruns, 5 total by the games ending in the 3rd inning when Dr. Funky Green popped out to end the game with the score Vipers-9 & the Green Bears-6. Killer Held left in the bottom of the 3rd due to heat exhaustion & fed up with his teammate,...for the moment saying "He told me to leave,...& it's too hot." He later returned before any damage had been done. Although the G. Bears lost, they had a 5 run rally in the bottom of the 3rd & came reasonably close to making a comeback to tie/win. Dr. Funky Green had this to say at the games closing: "They really just started an areial assult on us with that new green foam bat, which is the reason we had to limit its use to 3 AB per inning, but by the time we made that rule, it was too late, too much damage had been done, we didn't make that rule so that we could win or try to win, it was to make it more fair & more level. Because that bat hits the ball in impossible fielding places regularly, it's not strength that puts the ball there, nor talent, it's the material that it is made with, & Chestar spotted that & declared it unfair, everyone agreed, so it went over well. The new rule was put into effect immediately & will continue to be in effect as long as that bat or any other bats like that are used." He continued, commenting on the Vipers victory "What more can I say? They beat us reasonably fair & square, except when Killer left, he shouldn't have been allowed back into the game, because when you quit, that's it. But oh well, we tried to comeback, & I messed up & popped one up there, also some fine fielding on Killer's part, catching both of my pop-flys. At least I still have a good pitching record. You win some...you lose some, but in our case, that is a L on our record, now we're .500, the worst record we've had in franchise history, but keep in mind that we've only played 2 games. We just need to practice more, Chestar has some more healing to do, & so on." For more information on how Game 2 went down, check out the 'game results' section.

A Viper wins POTM???...Yes
July 7, 2004 --
The votes are in & it was unanimous, William "Killer" Held has won the 2004 GDWL June Player Of The Month award, congratulations Killer. He is the first player from the Vipers to win such an award, Killer Held has yet to be informed of his award, but he will sure be happy to find out that he won. Teammate, Hollywood Thornton, is very happy for Killer Held. The commissioner, Dr. Funky Green had this to say : "He does deserve this award, he's been constantly improving offensivly, I was wondering if we'd ever see a member of the Vipers win a POTM award, but finally it happened, I'm proud of him & he deserves it. Right now, he's a top canidate to go into the GDWL Hall of Fame this year, hopefully, he'll keep up the good work."

commissioner's note : 2004 GDWL All-Star Game
July 13, 2004 --
Fellow GDWLers & others,
For those of you who enjoy that MLB All-Star atmosphere, you'll be in favor for us getting our all-star thing on the road. First of all, we only have TWO teams in the GDWL, in case you haven't noticed. What that means is that we're just going to have to mix up players from our 2 teams we do have, one way we can do this is pick a person from each team & just pick people, or we can draw straws or something (but doing it that way, could mess up things & we'd still have the same original teams which would defeat the purpose of having an all-star game, haha). Now, the next thing, would be figuring out who will be the captain of each team for the all-star game (one person from the green bears & one person from the vipers), & we MUST KNOW who will be in town & who is willing to participate in the all-start game, b/c if someone picks a roster full of no-shows, then that wouldn't be any fun at all, so call or e-mail me ASAP to let me know if you'll be able to attend. Also, on that note, we are unsure of when the all-star game will be held, or where it will be played for that matter. We could have it at GDWL Ballpark so it'd be easy to meet, or we could take the short/brief journey to HBL & play there, it'd be a larger atmosphere. But we'll probably have to have the All-star homerun derby at GDWL ballpark, b/c it's the only ballpark with definate homerun boundries. We just need to get busy, b/c we haven't done anything since June, we might have to have this fiasco in August, b/c lots of people are busy with vacations & camps at the moment. Well that was pretty much all I had to say to catch you up on the all star game situation, please vote on the poll.

The pictures are up on the site!!!!!!
July 14, 2004 --
Dr. Funky Green went to Allen Meadow's house to see Bonnie Meadows for uploading & scanning the pictures from the 2003 season onto the site, the result : SUCCESS!...visit the photo album section on the side menu & you can see the pictures. So a very special thanks to Bonnie Meadows [applaudes]. See the photos immediately, now the e-mails can stop begging me to put the pictures up.
While there, there was a photo-shoot featuring Dr. Funky Green, 2 pictures from the shoot are featured on the photo section (last two pictures). The very un-photogenic Dr. Funky Green was holding a tattered wiffleball during the pictures being taken, all in all, the pics turned out pretty good.
That's the news.

GDWL active after a month & a half of no games...
August 6, 2004 --
The GDWL has had a silencing of the bats for the past month & a half, with the last game being the Father's Day Classic (reg. season game 2) on WV Day (June 20th, 2004), with not even so much as a practice game has been played since then. But now, they have picked the season back up last night. Dr. Funky Green, fed up with nothing going on in the league (playing games-wise), with the night off from his job, got his brother (Hollywood) & they headed down to Garrett Drive. "Honestly, July is the most difficult month to get people out to show up & play, there's vacations, church/summer camps, summer jobs, & it's the pinnacle of summer madness. There will be no player of the month for July, simply because we didn't even have so much as a practice game, but July is behind us now, it was a nice break, because all of us were busy, including myself, probably more so busy than most of the others. But now, the insanity has died down a little & we're looking forward a good 2nd half of the season. We need to finish the season out right & at least to our satisfactory" Dr. Funky Green, commissioner of the league, said.
When Hollywood & Dr. Funky Green had gotten to Garrett Drive, we got Killer Held to come over quickly, then Dr. Funky Green called Chestar & he was over within minutes, & a surprise accidental visit by Ryan "Rhino" Hale made it official : "We are so having a game". Pictures were taken with black & white film, team pictures, & pics from the game. For the first time in GDWL history, the entire Vipers roster had their picture taken together, the G. Bears had a pic with just Chestar & Dr. Funky Green (Jen was at work, Fashionably Late was not home, & The Polish Wonder was unable to attend). The pics will be uploaded onto the site as soon as possible.
But by the time they all got caught up with eachother, warming up & whatnot, it was dusk, so they tried to hurry the game along as quick as possible. In the end, the game had to be delayed, this is how it went down : Dr. Funky Green was relieving on the mound for Chestar in the bottom of the 2nd, by this time it was incredibly dark, (street & pourch lights weren't helping much at all) Dr. Funky Green pitched & couldn't even see the ball immediately after it left his hand, after that pitch, he shouted "OKAY, that's it!...I can't see a thing out here! Let's take a vote [laughs]." The GDWL council (Chestar, Killer, Dr. Funky Green, & Hollywood) met in the circle, Rhino was invited to join, but he was late on returning home, so he said his vote was to "Delay the game." They had a good time talking out there, & they voted, it was unanimous minus an undecided vote, the game was delayed due to darkness. Killer had this to say "It's late & I've got an early day tomorrow, we need to delay this, because I need to get some sleep." The score thus far, Hollywood replied "4 to 2!" The game will be continued next time we all meet at Garrett Drive. In conclusion, here's a quote from Dr. Funky Green about last night in general : "Last night was great, I was stoked to get some wiffleball played, see the stats from that game on the game results section. Pictures were taken, & the pictues should turn out awesome, black & white, everyone was happy, great night. It was great to catch up with everyone & to find out what everyone was up to, mostly jobs, camps & things of the such & sort. But school is starting back soon & our time will be limited to do things such as these, so we need to enjoy the remainder of the summer thouroghly, because it has flown by ever so quickly & it will continue to do so, Summer is a blessing of relaxation & joy, but cursed with a brief moment in time each year. But on a lighter note, we played great wiffleball last night, most fun I've had in quite a while. Be on the lookout for some more photos coming to the site within the next month."

Swing & a miss, no-hitter, newest Hall of Fame inductees...
September 4, 2004 --
Exciting news in the GDWL! GREG "CHESTAR" SOWARDS JUST THREW A NO-HITTER IN THE LATEST GDWL REGULAR SEASON GAME, FIRST NO HITTER IN GDWL HISTORY! The date : August 20th, 2004 (GDWL back to school bash game), late evening around dusk. Blahblahblah, 3 innings, Chestar made the vipers pop-out 3 times, (Dr. Funky Green catching all of them). At the end of the first inning, Dr. Funky Green said to Chestar in jest (joking) "Keep it up man, you've got a no-hitter going." Little did they know that very thing happened. The frustrated Vipers couldn't get a hit, then the Green Bears (each, Fashionably Late, Chestar, Dr. Funky Green) got basehits & eventually scored a run (which is all they'd need to win), when Dr. Funky Green finally got Chestar around to score. Final score 1-0, GDWL history! Pictures were taken of that night, & will be posted soon (we now have a scanner). On to the next story.
The votes are in, here are the newest inductees into the GDWL hall of fame :
William "Killer" Held - Vipers
Matt "Hollywood" Thornton - Vipers
Katherine "Fashionably Late" Held - G. Bears
Les "Big Daddy" Milam Jr. (a real shocker that he got in) - G. Bears
Greg "The Polish Wonder" Szepelak - obligated to the G. Bears
Zep was also a surprise inductee, since he wasn't even on the ballot, he was remembered & was a write-in, thus, being inducted. Originally, we only induct 3, but there was a 4 way tie for 2nd, Killer was the only absolute inductee. So we just inducted Killer, & the tiers. Seems fair enough.
Sorry it took so long for the update.
Also, we have the game results from the 2003 season on the game results page, check it out.

2004 GDWL Farewell-To-Summer Extravaganza
September 21, 2004 --
September 18th Dr. Funky Green & Hollywood wanted to play some wiffleball, because they kept hearing about how the autumn equinox was upon them within days, so they decided to try to get everyone together to play a game or two before summer was 'officially' over. Most were called & 6 showed up at the rendevous spot at Garrett Drive, in hopes of going to the Hurricane City Park to play. In attendance : Dr. Funky Green, Hollywood, Chestar, The Polish Wonder (finally making his return since the gdwl/kung-fu pandas incident), Fashionably Late, & Killer. Of the 6 who showed up, only 4 made it to the park (everyone except fash. & killer). They went to the city park & played some exibition games, 3 to be exact; 2 innings, 1 out, 2 on 2, mixing teams up after each game. Here are the Results for the 2004 GDWL Farewell-To-Summer Extravaganza triple-header @ Hurricane City Park :
Game 1 :
The Polish Wonder & Dr. Funky Green.......0
*Chestar & Hollywood.........................2 (Winners)
Game 2:
*Chestar & Dr. Funky Green........1
The Polish Wonder & Hollywood.........0
Game 3: (the Greg's vs. the bro's)
Chestar & The Polish Wonder.......0
*Dr. Funky Green & Hollywood.......4
After that games, it was now completely dark, but semi-visible thanks to the lights @ the park. Later they went to Skatewinds Skate park & did some 'extreme walking.' At the end all claimed to have a lot of fun & The Polish Wonder was finally able to make his return. *Lots of pics were taken, keep a lookout for them to come to the site soon.
September 19th The 2nd & final day of the Farewell-To-Summer Extravaganza was tranquil & easy going. As the previous day, everyone rendevoused at Garrett Drive, but the same 4 were the only ones able to make it to the park. But before going to the park, they had a HR Derby; 2 rounds, 2nd rd. was bonus rd. with green bat, 5 outs. Results :
......Farewell-To-Summer Extravaganza HR Derby Results...... :
Dr. Funky Green.........3
The Polish Wonder.....2
Chestar.....................0
Hollywood...............0
Then they went to St. Albans to check out Zep's church's gym, where we expect to be playing in the winter this year with M.W.L. & H.C.W. Unfortunately the doors were locked, so they could not go inside. They returned back to Hurricane, & Chestar had to leave. So the remaining 3 finished the day by going to the Minor League field at the City Park with batting practice, which was the ending of the 2004 GDWL Farewell-To-Summer Extravaganza weekend.

Regular season game 4 summary, Chestar wins Aug. POTM
September 23, 2004 --
First off, Chestar was voted August Player Of The Month, contratulations to Chestar.
Now, on September 23rd, 2004, we finally got another regular season game going, Dr. Funky Green, Hollywood, & Chestar appeared at Garrett Drive in the latter part of the evening & much to their surprise, Alan Meadows was at the culdesac area of Garrett Drive taking some batting practice. So Hollywood, decided to accomplice Alan as his teammate for the game, considering William "Killer" Held & Rhino were busy at that moment. So the game began, 6 or 7 fans in attendance. Chestar on the mound (making his first pitching appearance after the no-hitter last month). Alan Meadows finally made his career debut, but sadly, went 0-2 with 2 strikeouts. Chestar threw a Complete Game, ShutOut, & only gave up 1 hit. The final score was the Green Bears : 1, & the Vipers : 0. Dr. Funky Green brought in the only run in the bottom of the 2nd getting a triple to bring in Chestar for the only run that they'd need to win. After that, Alan Meadows announced that he was starting a wiffleball league at his neighborhood, Lexington Estates, just up the road a couple of miles from Garrett Drive. The GDWL is going to rendevous at Garrett Drive, in hopes of getting the majority of the league to meet there & go to Lexington Estates to pump up the neighborhood & inspire younger ones to pick up a bat & play this weekend. Be on the lookout for their website too, Alan wanted assistance from Dr. Funky Green in building a website for this new league.
Be prepared to vote for September POTM...it's just around the corner.

A commissioner's note : The Season - over, here's the recap & the plan :
November 9, 2004 --
First Let me first thank all who helped or played in this season. The Green Bears, The Vipers, any other 3rd parties represented such as Marina Wiffleball League, & Winners Circle. Thanks to all of our fans throughout the town, state, & country. Thanks to the league's that have recognized us as a league & welcoming us to the wiffleball community officially by adding us to their links. This year was very successful, with lots of games completed & just fun overall. We all bonded well & are still no friends, & no bouts took place this year. We even had an all-star game! But I'm going to try to make this brief, so don't sigh with boredom as you're reading this. This was probably out last official regular season as a league (GDWL), with Chestar, Zep, & myself (Dr. Funky Green) graduating this coming spring, it'll be awful hard for us to find time from our college lives to have a dedicated season, but the GDWL will not die, I do want to make that clear.
Congratulations to those who've been player of the month winners & those who've are the newest inductees into the GDWL hall of fame, we now have tradition, & it is good. Thanks to all of you who've made our dreams of having a league a reality, it's so much fun, & thank you for actually playing along.
So what do we do now, you ask? Well, the season is over, we still need to get to the GDWL World Series, there needs to be a champion of the GDWL this year. I'd say that if we don't get it done this weekend, it probably won't be done, or at least outdoors. Also the GDWL council will be getting together sometime this month & determine who will win what for the awards. So, keep that in mind & be excited for that. Also, winter wiffleball will be happening this year for a fact! (for more info, see fall/winter wiffleball section on the side menu)...at Catholic Heights at Greg "The Polish Wonder" Szepelak's church gym. It will be lots of fun, anyone is invited, this is not just an invitation to the Garrett Drive Wiffleball League, it's open for anyone. The Marina Wiffleball League, Winners Circle Wiffleball League, Hurricane City Wiffleball (Division 3) will be there too, so, there'll be many. The more the merrier! If you're interested at all, not just if you live in the area, e-mail me (silverhawk74@hotmail.com).
That's about all that's going on now, sorry for not updating in over a month, I've been immensly busy, & so has everyone else, so my apologies. Thanks so much for everything everyone. We've not limited our friendships to just wiffleball, our friendships have been renewed & strengthened through this great sport & we all are greatful. The league has grown so much, & there's been leagues branch off of us in ways, it's great. This league has fulfilled it's full potential & I'm proud of each & everyone involved, thank you all!
My sincerest & most humble thanks,
Josh "Dr. Funky Green" Smith
commissioner of the Garrett Drive Wiffleball League

G.D.W.L. Veteran's Day Homerun Derby
November 12, 2003 --
With the day off from school, Matt, Josh, & William decided to practice, have fun & have a homerun derby. It would last 3 rounds with 3 outs each at bat. In the first round, Josh had a promising lead with 3 homeruns one of them being a 140 ft. bomb for a new league record. But by the time the second rd. came Matt & William were catching him. In the end Matt won the competition & once again, Josh finished 2nd. William trailed Josh by 1 homerun & finished in 3rd for the second derby in a row. Chestar was unable to attend due to his battle with tonsilitis. Here are the final standings of the 2003 G.D.W.L. Veteran's Day Homerun Derby:
1st place - Matt Thornton - 7 homeruns
2nd place - Josh Smith - 6 homeruns
3rd place - William Held - 5 homeruns
"For some reason, I just can't win a homerun derby lately, I haven't won one in like a year, but that's not the point, I enjoy playing & to get everyone out here who can to have a good time & to have fun." Comment from Josh Smith after the derby was over. This could've been one of the last outdoor activities for the G.D.W.L. until spring 2004 due to the ever growing crappy fall & winter weather here in West Virginia.

Homerun Derby Mania has hit the G.D.W.L...
November 18, 2003 --
It's been two weeks since the first 2003 G.D.W.L. Fall Ball Homerun Derby, & since then we've had the G.D.W.L. Veteran's Day Homerun Derby & then on the 18th we began yet another homerun derby. "It's crazy, but it's fun" says Josh Smith. The new homerun derby has not yet been named. But Chestar appeared despite his tonsilitis, he seems to be doing better, but doesn't get his tonsils taken out until the 22nd. Katherine Held, Josh Smith, & William Held also attended. Katherine lead-off the 1st round of the derby, & hitting a surprising 3 homeruns in the 1st round. "I was shocked to see her hit that many homeruns in that brief amount of time, that's like more homeruns there then in her whole career" Josh Smith commented afterwards. Next was Josh Smith who took the lead away from Katherine by one homerun, he finished his first round hitting 4 HRs. Following him was Chestar who grounded out the first of his 4 outs out of 5 outs. Then he turned it on with one out left & hit 3 homeruns before grounding out. & lastly William stepped up to the plate, he struggled at first like Chestar but then turned it on with few outs left. But William only hit 2 homeruns. William & Katherine had to go home afterwards, they are uncertain if they'll do the overly rushed 2nd round over again or go as is. Here are the standings for the Homerun Derby that is yet unnamed:
1st - Josh Smith - 4 homeruns
T 2nd - Katherine Held - 3 homeruns
T 2nd - Chestar - 3 homeruns
4th - William Held - 2 homeruns
If you have any ideas for what to name the homerun derby please leave a message on the guestbook & give us your idea(s).

Ryan Hale is Alive! G. Bears are just having fun, not scoring! 4th base, a success?
January 2, 2004 --
Well Fall/Winter ball is a success & is going along smoothly. On New Year's Day, we were playing & Ryan Hale ran to Garrett Drive chasing his dog which ran away. The dog bit Matt "Hollywood" Thornton, but no harm done, the dog was retrieved by Ryan (his nickname "rhino") & we chatted for about a half an hour. Later that evening, he invited us to move the wiffleball game to Melrose Drive (just 2 streets away from Garrett Drive, Ryan's street). We walked there & we enjoyed a hour game, then of course, Ryan had to go inside. But at least we know that he's alive! We hadn't seen him for almost two months until this last appearance. But he can still hit the ball quite nicely.
Meanwhile, the Green Bears are capitalizing on what it means to have fun in fall/winter ball this year, they haven't scored in 3 days, not one run. But they do admit that they're still having fun. Just earlier today, Funky Green threw the 4th base idea out there again, this time they decided to give it a try for the very first time. Now if you're not familiar with the 4th base idea, this is how it goes. When there's a 4th base there is no longer a diamond shape, it's more of a pentagon shape (similar to homeplate), all it is, is just adding another base. It was a moderate success. Everyone seemed to adjust well & enjoy the experimental base running path. "I was surprised that they wanted to try it, everyone's been so closed-minded to trying it out, that I thought that it would never happen, but this time it did" Josh Smith said. He continued "Shaun Breen (from Major League Wiffleball) thought that the idea was pretty clever & liked the thought of it. But I kept remembering almost everyone against trying it, from the Kung-Fu Pandas, to the founding members, to Chestar. The only one who was in favor with me in the league in trying it out was Zep. But I nearly didn't offer it again, but the fun atmosphere today seemed fitting, & everyone else felt that too." He had this to say about the recent slump of the team "Well Chestar hasn't played any WINTER games, so that is a factor in this. Umm...I'm getting on base & Kat doesn't hit the ball, & when she's on I don't hit the ball [laughs] Oh well what can you do? At least we're having fun, that's what fall/winter ball is about. I'm sure we'll pull out of our little jam, because that's all it is, just a jam, I don't think that you can go as far as saying that it's a slump. Man, how dramatic [laughs again]."

New GDWL spring training website...
January 13, 2004 --
Well, some people may have or may have wanted an individual site for spring training, but who cares, it's in the works & is up & running. just go to www.leaguelineup.com/springtraining2004 & begin to look. This will be an amazing site for those of you wanting to get into the action this spring. the site name may change, but we'll update you if it does. "Spring Training is so huge for the GDWL, especially last year, since it was the first time we've had it, it's when it's all about fun, not about who struck out. It will just be another one of our many site. [ponders] 5 I think..." that's what Josh Smith had to say about the matter. Well, if you have nothing to do, check it out, there may even be a fall ball site up, but somehow I doubt it.

Interviews updated, Hollywood making quick recovery, plus more news
April 5, 2004 --
The interview with Hollywood Thornton took place nearly a week ago & is now being added onto the interviews section to the site. Check it out, it's an exclusive interview with Hollywood himself as Dr. Funky Green asks the hard questions about the injury while the events are still freshly in his mind. Also the first spring training games this year will be taking place tomorrow morning, afternoon, & evening. For more information about that, visit our spring training site.
Also sometime soon, Jennifer Elkins will be interviewing Josh Smith aka Dr. Funky Green. That interview should be posted by next week. Meanwhile, everyone's preparing for tomorrow's preliminary experience. But if you haven't already, please vote for what you think was the most memorable moment of 2003, you don't even have to be a GDWL member, just e-mail us with your vote.
It's been a while since a thought of the week has been posted & Dr. Funky Green hopes to find time tonight or tomorrow to add one.
Thanks for visiting the site & keep checking in for more updates...
