1. 2/4/05 Orange Lutheran 61-55
In front of a standing room only crowd at Orange Lutheran the Tigers defeated the Lancers to decide the Empire League championship. The two teams entered the game with identical 8-1 records. The Tigers ran out of the locker room wearing their black jerseys to surprise the Lancers. Junior Ray Magee led all scorers with 24 points, point guard Nahum Berhan added 11 points and Roddy Ulmer had 9 points and 8 rebounds. Game notes: USC quaterback Aaron Corp and Boise State wide receiver Austin Pettis played for the Lancers that night. VHS senior Corey Dover, who made only one 3-pt. basket all season, made one with 1:30 left in the 4th quarter to seal the win.

2. 2/6/09 Katella 72-70 (3 OT) Valencia had a 7-0 record in league, headed for their first undefeated season in school's history. The Tigers ran into a very determined and short-handed Katella team. Empire League MVP Christian Mack had 27 points, sophomore Omar Perez added 13 points and senior Brian Berkley had 10 points and 8 rebounds. Game notes: Katella played without all-league point guard Kevin Rameriz. Katella senior, Richard Santiago, scored 25 points.

3. 2/11/94 Magnolia 42-40 This game was played in front of a full house in the new gym. The Tigers entered the game with a 7-2 record in league and the Sentinels were 8-1. Junior Jermaine Gray scored 12 points and senior Max Zamora added 11 points to lead the Tigers. This was only the third league championship in VHS history. Game note: Magnolia's all-league senior, Frank Henderson, was suspended from the game for a campus disruption earlier in the day.

4. 12/27/96 Capistrano Valley The Cougars were ranked 7th in the county before this second round game in the Orange Holiday Classic Tournament at Chapman University. Seniors John Frechette, 16 points, Michael Johnson, 12 points and B.J. Smith, 10 points and 9 rebounds led the Tigers in this upset. Game note: Capo's center, Austin Moherman, received a full-ride football scholarship to Ohio State.

5. 1/26/01 Brea 54-53 (OT) The Tigers had to travel to Brea to play the Wildcats (5-0 in the Orange League and in the OC top 10). Seniors Ben Jones, 14 points, Chris Bales, 13 points and 7 rebounds, Hugo Hernandez, 13 points and 5 assists and Keinan Briggs 7 points and 12 rebounds led the senior dominant Tigers. Briggs' offensive rebound basket with 11 seconds left won the game. Game notes: Brea had defeated the Tigers 12 straight times prior to this game. 11 of the 12 Tigers on the varsity roster were seniors.

6. 2/16/05 Edison 46-45 It was pouring rain when the Tigers visited Edison High School in this second round CIF game. Edison had a free throw to tie the game with 4 seconds left. Edison missed the free throw but got the offensive rebound and got a shot off that bounced on the rim 3 or 4 times before falling off. Forward Ray Magee led the Tigers with 19 points, forward Roddy Ulmer had 10 points and center Bryan Simmons had 5 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Game notes: This victory was the 23rd win of the season breaking the school record. VHS played without its starting point guard due to a team suspension.

7. 2/13/09 Loara 68-65 (OT) This victory secured the first 10-0 season in VHS history. Senior Christian Mack led the Tigers with 21 points, 7 steals and 8 rebounds. Senior Jeffrey Mutabazi had 16 points and sophomore Omar Perez added 14 points and 12 rebounds. Game note: Loara's Michael Jones tied the game in regulation with a 3-pt. basket with less than a second on the clock.

8. 1/3/97 El Dorado 51-49 This is one of many great games against our cross-town rival. Seniors John Frechette and B.J. Smith each scored 13 points to lead the Tigers. Game notes: El Dorado missed the front end of a 1 and 1 free throw at the end of the game to insure the Tigers the victory. Senior Paul Aston "intentionally" fouled El Dorado with 5 seconds left. Paul's excuse was that he couldn't stop himself.

9. 1/16/96 Elsinore 66-55 Despite Elsinore's Erron Maxey's 33 points (with at least 5 powerful dunks) the Tigers won this first round CIF battle in the new gym. The Tigers had an outstanding all around game. Junior B.J. Smith had 19 points and 10 rebounds, senior Kevin Jackley had 15 points and 9 boards and senior Salim Aqil had 14 points for the Tigers. Game note: Maxey went on to Providence College and was a four year starter.

10T. 12/4/04 North Torrance 100-81 Kyle Calhoun's 3-pt. basket with 2 seconds left in the game put the Tigers at exactly 100 points. The Saxons play an all out pressing style defense which turns all games into high scoring affairs. All-CIF player Ray Magee had 24 points, Bryan Simmons 16 points (4 dunks), Roddy Ulmer 15 points, Nahum Berhan 9 points and Rashad Chambers and Brett Byars each had 7 points. Game note: This was for third place in the Taco Company Tournament at Loara High School.

10T. 2/18/05 North Torrance 101-70 This CIF quarterfinal game in the new gym got Valencia into the CIF semi-finals for only the second time in school's history. Junior Curtis Krystek led the Tigers with 19 points and he also scored the final basket to put the Tigers over the century mark for the second time this season. Future UCI volleyball player Bryan Simmons scored 17 points, Ray Magee 12 points, Rashad Chambers 11 points and Nahum Berhan and Roddy Ulmer each scored 10. Game note: North's leading scorer, sophomore Luke Dupperon, who averaged 30 points a game, only scored 2 points in the game. Both points coming on free throws he made before the game even started because a Tiger dunked a ball during warm ups thus earning a technical foul.

Honorable Mention. 12/21/01 Milliken 55-53 This was the East Championship Game for the North Orange County Tournament held at Troy High School. Seniors Emmanuel Ortega (5-threes) and Ben Jones (3-threes) led the Tigers with 17 points each. Senior Chris Bales passed the ball to senior Hugo Hernandez under the basket with the clock about to expire for the game winning lay up. Ortega was named the tournament MVP.
Game notes: Mark Castillo and Jesse Jackson, who both played and coached at Valencia, agreed that this game belonged on the list. The NOC Tournament was a 32 team tournament divided into two regions, East and West. The Valencia-Milliken game decided the East Region champion.
