Please review the bat restrictions for the American, National and Pony League. 

THESE STANDARDS (AL AND NL) WILL ONLY BE IN EFFECT UNTIL THE END OF THE 2018 SEASON. AFTER THAT ALL BATS AT AL AND NL MUST CONFORM TO USA BASEBALL STANDARDS.

 

AMERICAN LEAGUE (8-10) and Rookie

 It shall be a smooth, rounded stick and made of wood or of material tested and proved acceptable to WPYB. It shall not be more than thirty-three (33) inches in length, not more than two and one-quarter (2 1/4) inches in diameter, and if wood, not less than fifteen-sixteenth (15/16) inches in diameter (7/8 inch for bats less than 30") at its smallest part.

Bats handles may be taped or fitted with a sleeve for a distance not exceeding sixteen (16) inches. A non-wood bat must have a grip of cork, tape or composition material, and must extend a minimum of 10 inches from the small end. Slippery tape or similar material is prohibited. Laminated bats shall not be used. Colored bats are acceptable. Painted bats made of wood are not acceptable. 

NATIONAL LEAGUE (11-12)  TWO CHOICES FOR BATS

1.11 – The bat which may be a wood or non-wood product shall be a smooth cylinder implement with a knob that is permanently and securely fastened. All bats must conform to one of the following standards:

(a) – It shall not be more than thirty-three (33) inches in length, two and one-quarter (2-1/4) inches in diameter, and if wood, not less than fifteen-sixteenth (15/16) inches in diameter (7/8 inch for bats less than 30") at its smallest part. (These are the same smaller barrel bats that are used in the Rookie and American League)

(b) – USSSA 1.15 BPF – Each bat shall be: in diameter at thickest part: 2-5/8 inches or less; in length: 36 inches; and in weight: A bat shall not weigh, numerically, more than eight (8) ounces less than the length of the bat (e.g., a 33 inch long bat cannot be less than 25 ounces). All bats must contain the silkscreened United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA 1.15 BPF) label or other permanent certification mark. No USSSA label, sticker or decal will be accepted on any non-wood bat. (These are commonly known as Youth Big Barrel Bats..More info here.)

 

PONY LEAGUE (13-16) ONE CHOICE FOR BAT

Each bat shall be: in diameter at thickest part: 2-5/8 inches or less; in length: 36 inches; and in weight: A bat shall not weigh, numerically, more than three (3) ounces less than the length of the bat (e.g., a 33-inch-long bat cannot be less than 30 ounces).

1.11 – The bat which may be a wood or non-wood product shall be a smooth cylinder implement with a knob that is permanently and securely fastened. All non-wood bats shall meet the Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution (BBCOR) performance standard, and such bats shall be labeled with a silkscreen or other permanent certification mark. No BBCOR label, sticker or decal will be accepted on any non-wood bat.

There shall be no devices, attachments, or wrappings that cause the handle to become flush with the knob. Molded grips are illegal. A non-wood bat must have a safety grip of cork, tape, or composition material. The grip must extend a minimum of 10 inches, but not more than 18 inches, from the handle end of the bat. Slippery tape or similar material shall be prohibited. A wood bat may be roughened or wound with tape not more than 18 inches from the handle end of the bat. No foreign substance may be added to the surface of the bat beyond 18 inches from the end of the handle.
