All games at GYBA will be played in accordance with Texas UIL High School Baseball Rules except as noted below (Local rules are based, in part, on Nations-Baseball):

1. The GYBA ‘No Tolerance Policy’ remains in effect at all times. All contact and avoidance rules will remain in effect.

2. Games will be seven (7) innings. No new inning will start after 1 hour 45 minutes of play. For weeknight games, no new inning will start after 10:00 PM regardless of start time. Season games can end in a tie. Run rules are in effect – 15/3, 10/4 and 8/5. (Local and NB Rule IX.C.12 & C.13).

3. Each team will supply two (2) balls in good condition for each game.

4. All teams will bat the entire roster. An official team consists of nine (9) players. A player arriving late can be inserted at any time and at the bottom of the line up. A team with only eight (8) players may start/finish a game but must take an out for the missing ninth (9th) player. A team cannot “pickup” players from another league or team for an official season game. A team with only seven (7) players will be declared a ‘suspended’ game and referred to the League Director for a decision. An umpire cannot forfeit a game, only the League Commissioner or qualified League Director can declare a game a forfeit. (Local and NB Rule IX.C.4)

5. A coach/batboy 18 years of age or younger must wear a double eared helmet.
(Local and NB Rule IX.B.2)

6. Bats must comply with the following:

The official bat shall be round in cross section for its entire length, straight from end to end for its entire length and smooth surfaced in the hitting area. The maximum diameter shall not exceed two and three fourths (2 3/4) inches and the maximum length shall not exceed thirty-six (36) inches. The bat shall be constructed of wood, aluminum, or any other material or combination of materials unless such materials or combinations of materials are specifically disapproved by GYBA. Such disapproval shall be the sole discretion of GYBA and may be made without notice. Bats shall not exceed the 1.15 BPF (Bat Performance Factor) as defined for baseball bats by ASTM Standards. Any material to improve the grip may be used for a distance not to exceed eighteen (18) inches from the handle end. Any such material or substance, which extends past the eighteen (18) inch limitation, shall cause the bat to be removed from the game. All bats must be commercially manufactured for baseball play, softball bats and bats altered after manufacture to reduce or add weight will not be allowed. The 18U division must conform to the NFHS (National Federation of High School Association) bat limitations including a length to weight ratio no greater than negative three (-3) ounces.
Specific prohibited bats are listed below:

Prohibited Bats: Easton Stealth Model # BCNCP1.

Comment: If the umpire discovers that the bat does not conform to this rule, the bat will be removed from the game. If the violation is discovered before or during the players turn at bat, then it shall not be grounds for declaring the batter out, or ejection from the game. If the violation is discovered after the bat has been used in play, it will result in the batter being called out and possible manager ejection for repeat violations.

7. Only two (2) coaches are allowed outside the dugout. Defensive coaches must remain on the “porch” and within arms reach of the dugout. No electronic devices, buckets or chairs are allowed on the field of play. (Local)

8. Squeeze plays (“suicide”) and Slashing will not be allowed. Slashing is safety issue and will not be allowed. Slashing is defined as a batter attempting to deceive the defense by squaring to bunt as the pitcher is delivering the ball and then swinging at the pitch (with or without runners on base).

**PENALTY: The batter will be declared out, the runners shall not advance. On the second offense, the third-base coach will also be ejected. The safety squeeze is permitted.

9. A thrown bat will constitute a warning to that player. A second occurrence will result in that player being immediately ‘benched’ and a courtesy runner (i.e., last recorded out) inserted. A third occurrence will result in that player’s removal from the game, a courtesy runner inserted (last recorded out) and the player’s position in the line-up skipped. An out will not be assessed unless the team falls below nine (9) players. This is a safety issue. (Local and NB Rule IX.C.4).

10. With two (2) out a courtesy runner (last recorded out) will be allowed for the catcher only.
