    League Information:
The Monocacy Valley Athletic League is a Maryland public school athletic conference comprised of 22 high schools located in Carroll, Frederick, and Washington Counties. Founded in the late 1960's, the MVAL has grown to one of the biggest high school athletic leagues in Maryland.

In 2002 the ten-school MVAL and the nine-school Central Maryland Conference (CMC) laid plans to merge athletic leagues starting in September 2003. The league would keep the MVAL name and add three more schools to bring the total membership to 22. Clear Spring from Washington County, along with two new schools, Winters Mill from Carroll County, and Tuscarora from Frederick County would also join the league.

MVAL member schools include six Washington County schools (Boonsboro, Clear Spring, North Hagerstown, Smithsburg, South Hagerstown, and Williamsport), nine Frederick County schools (Brunswick, Catoctin, Frederick, Linganore, Middletown, Thomas Johnson, Tuscarora, Urbana, and Walkersville), and seven school from Carroll County (Century, Francis Scott Key, Liberty, North Carroll, South Carroll, Westminster, and Winters Mill).

These 22 schools are divided up into three conferences (Antietam, Chesapeake, Piedmont) based on location and student enrollment. The Antietam Conference includes Boonsboro, Brunswick, Catoctin, Clear Spring, North Hagerstown, Smithsburg, South Hagerstown, and Williamsport. The Chesapeake Conference includes Century, Linganore, North Carroll, Thomas Johnson, Tuscarora, Urbana, and Westminster. The Piedmont Confernce includes Francis Scott Key, Frederick, Liberty, Middletown, South Carroll, Walkersville, and Winters Mill.
