Update 11/8/09 - LM WEEK
November 8, 2009 --
To: Radnor Football Boosters From: Rip Collins, Radnor Booster President Re: LM week Update 11/8/2009
MARPLE GAME A GREAT victory on Friday night! It may have been the best victory in Radnor Football recent history, definitely the best in the Tom Ryan era. In fact, Friday's game vs. Marple may have been THE turning point for the Radnor program. It was our first victory vs. a successful team in a successful program, it was our first victory vs. a PIAA playoff team, and we delivered our first major upset. In addition, if we win Saturday we will have the first winning season in 7 years and our third winning season in 25 years. Prior to that, we were a powerhouse. We are on our way back.
With that said all roads lead through Lower Merion. Our final game of the year now has even more significance - a winning season.
On Friday night, the team played incredibly well. If you were at the game you noticed that the team was even more fired up at beginning of the 2nd half than at the start of the game. The turnover on the opening kick-off set the tone. After that we were relentless. The sideline was active the whole game and the players on the field had their best performance of the year. We showed that we knew how to win, how to finish and how to work through adversity. Congratulations to all the players and coaches.
LM WEEK - Please note the following activities and important information for the coming week:
Monday - THIS WEEK'S JV GAME will be against Springfield. Yes we are playing them again. (Marple backed out of the game because they wanted to prepare themselves for the PIAA playoffs). This is the last JV game of the season because LM does not have a JV team this year. - The annual LM T-SHIRTS for players, coaches and cheerleaders, compliments of the Booster Club, will be given out Monday following the JV game (approx 5:45) outside the wrestling room. There are enough shirts for everyone but to ensure you can get the correct size be there on time. - The FOOTBALL JACKETS will be handed out at the Pasta party this Friday.
Monday - Thursday - The FAN SHOP will be open Mon.-Thurs. during lunch in the cafeteria. (sweatpants, sweatshirts, Ts, etc) - LM DANCE TICKETS are on sale starting Monday. Players MUST buy one at lunch; football players do NOT get in free and tickets will not be set-aside for players. The LM dance is on Saturday night at the High School. - Get your BEAT LM signs up in your yard!! Beat LM Signs - are available for $4.00 or 3 for $10. Contact Jen Gordon at jggordon01@yahoo.com. If you have a sign from previous years get it out and support the team! - Take a look at the Great RADNOR vs. LM sign on Route 30, in front of the school. - You can enter a website "SHOUT OUT" for your son or the whole team by going to our website www.radnorfootball.com. It is free, there is a link on the website.
Thursday - HAS-BEENS LUNCHEON. Players will be joining Radnor Football Alumni for lunch in the RHS cafeteria (at approximately 1:15pm). This is a special Radnor tradition that introduces our sons to Radnor Alumni. The Has-Beens look forward to talking to our players and recalling their time as Radnor Raiders. Players are to wear a collared shirt and tie to the luncheon. - PEP RALLY REHEARSAL. Parents and family members can attend the rehearsal on Thursday from 3-5pm in the main RHS gym. The fee is $5 per person. (Parents are NOT permitted to attend the actual Pep Rally on Friday due to space constraints).
Friday - PASTA PARTY is at 5pm. We need volunteers! This is a GREAT week for the parents that have NOT been regular pasta contributors to step up and make a dish. We need extra amounts this week because the middle school football players will be joining us at the pasta party. This is the last chance for the senior parents to contribute to an activity your sons have loved for 4 years. - FIRE TRUCKS- Immediately following the Pasta Party the players will be taken around Radnor on the Radnor Fire Company Fire Trucks. - BONFIRE - Players will disembark the Fire Trucks for the Bonfire on Loop field. Join the players, cheerleaders and band for the Bonfire @6:30. Please encourage all friends and Radnor fans to attend this fun Radnor tradition. - BOOSTER SOCIAL AND YEAR END CELEBRATION @ The Paddock in Devon- 9PM. All parents, booster members, alumni and Radnor Football fans are invited. We had a small gathering at the Paddock after the Carroll game -it was a great event. This one should be larger and even better, please plan on attending.
Saturday - THE 113TH ANNUAL RADNOR - LM GAME - THIS IS WHAT IT ALL COMES DOWN TO! - Tailgate 11:30-1:30 in the senior lot (Rowland field). Park on the south side of the lot. - Kick-off is at 1:30pm at Provost Field. This is a GREAT AMERICAN RIVALRY SERIES GAME!
Beyond next week: please put these events on your calendars:
1) 2009 RADNOR FOOTBALL BANQUET- SUNDAY DEC 6Th @ 12 noon at The Radnor Valley Country Club. Invitations and details to follow
2) COLLEGE RECRUITING SEMINAR BY THE MAXWELL FOOTBALL CLUB- Sponsored by RADNOR GRIDIRON BOOSTER CLUB - THURSDAY DEC 10TH @ 7pm in the RHS Auditorium. More details to follow.

Pasta Party Thanks
November 6, 2009 --
I want to extend an extra special thank you to Rachel Kurtyka for last night's pasta party. She had to call many audibles last night to pull out a win for our boys. The cafeteria was being used by the students to paint posters for LM week and they weren't done by the time she had to set up and serve. Rachel re-configured everything- served the pasta in the kitchen - and moved tables down to the lobby outside the auditorium for the boys to sit and eat. Dessert was served there too. Drinks had to be served on a makeshift table in the kitchen. She managed to do this on a second's notice. She was able to get all the pasta that was needed after only having 3 volunteers on Monday! The event was a great example of flexibility and fortitude for all our boys.
Please thank Rachel when you see her this week! And please make pasta for our last Pasta party next Friday before the Bonfire! Rip

Update 9/28/09
September 28, 2009 --
Hello Radnor Football Boosters; What a great week. What a great victory. Thank you to the players and the coaches for providing us such great entertainment and pride in how you played. The second half was even better than the first - a true accomplishment. We are 2-2, which is a great milestone in our 2009 season. Upcoming events: Tuesday: Tuesday night films @ 6pm in the Heath room- enter at the front of the school. A larger crowd is expected this week to relive the victory and to prep for our favorite opponent - Conestoga. Thursday: Freshman game, right after school Thursday: Pasta Party. Friday: Game at Conestoga, 7pm kick-off. Sunday: Team Community Service Event - The Buddy Walk at Villanova University Stadium. All players are required to attend the event wearing their black game jerseys. The players will line the entrance to direct the children and families into the stadium and to the sign-in tables. After most of the participants have arrived the players will be invited to go the field and interact with the children with Nerf footballs that will be provided. The whole event will take approximately 2 hours and the players need to be at the Stadium, ready to participate at 9am. Greg DiCocco (Sr.) will be organizing the event for the football team and Grace Waddell (Villanova Buddy Walk organizer) is our contact at the Buddy Walk. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia 8th Annual Buddy Walk and Family Fun Day hosted by the Friends of Trisomy 21 will take place Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Villanova University Stadium. The event is expected to draw almost 4,500 people, and we hope that we can include you among our participants! Gold Card Update: Below is an update from John Monaghan, the man behind the incredibly successful 2009 Gold Card program. We raised more than double what we raised in 2008. These funds will go to all of the uses that we have shared including paying for our many excellent, "voluntary" coaches. Thanks you for all your efforts and support of your sons and the Radnor Football program. Also, thanks to the Cheerleaders who helped us over our goal of selling 1,000 cards this year. Most of all, thank you John! From John Monaghan (expert fundraiser): Totals Cards Sold 1,012 cards, over $20,000. Radnor Football payout over $9,000, Radnor Cheer payout over $2,750, Total Radnor H.S. payout over $12,000!! On October 8 at 5:15pm, at the Pasta Party, Glenn and I will be conducting the FINAL COLLECTION of ALL unsold cards and money from the football team. NO EXCUSES! The Team prizes will be awarded once the final totals are calculated. Lastly, if we can sell 53 more cards we will reach our team goal of raising over $10,000 for the football team. Considering there are over 150 cards outstanding this should be like shooting fish in a barrel! Please "strongly" encourage this last group of boys to sell out their remaining cards. Call my cell if you have any questions. I will see you at the Pasta Party! Mobile 310.301.8094, Home 484.367.7442 College Recruiting: In October we are planning on providing college football recruiting information to any interested Booster parents and football players. This event is NOT only for seniors and juniors. Everyone is encouraged to attend. If you believe your son may have interest in playing football in college, this meeting will be for you. There are college programs for every skill level of player; all you have to have is a desire to keep playing. We will be bringing in outside experts and local contacts from local and non-local college programs. If you are interested in helping to prepare this presentation, and get an extra close look at the recruiting process, please contact me. eScript: Sign up if you have not. It is free money to the Boosters! GO RADNOR - BEAT STOGA! Rip Collins

Update 9/14/09
September 13, 2009 --
Boosters, Tough game Friday against a great Penncrest squad. Our boys are resilient and will bounce back with their confidence intact to face Strath Haven on THURSDAY night. Due to the Jewish holiday the game is on Thursday night at 7:30 at Strath Haven. The team will benefit from your loud voices at the game. I want to recognize all the complaints and befuddlement I received about the absence of our band and cheerleaders at the game last Friday. It was an absense noticed by our players as well an embarrasement that the visiting band had to play the national anthem at our home game. I do not have a reason or answer for you but I will find out this week and report back to all of you. The pasta party will be on Wednesday night this week. Look for a message from Rachel Kurtyka about feeding the boys. Film Night We are going to repeat the very successful film night held last week. This Tuesday night at 6pm Coach Ryan will be reviewing highlights of the Penncrest game and reviewing the film of last week's Strath Haven game. He will discuss how the team will prepare and play against Strath Haven. All parents, Dads and Moms, are welcome and encouraged to attend. Film nights will be held in the health classroom @ 6pm each week. Gold Cards: We are in the midst of a very successful gold card fundraising campaign. The boys took 5 additional cards home to sell this week and if they sell them all we will hit our goal and be able to fund our coaches and the equipment that has been requested. Thank you for the help you gave your son in the pre-Blitz Day sales campaign. It was the best Pre-Blitz sales effort we have ever had. If you can help with these last 5 cards in a Post-Blitz effort it will help the team tremendously - not to mention the internal team competition for most cards sold. It is a close race. Radnor Football Jackets: Samples of Radnor Football jackets will be available for players to try on at this Wednesday's pasta party. All players who are interested in purchasing a jacket should try one on to be sure of their size since jackets are not returnable. This year all players may order a jacket and will have the opportunity to attach their letter (Frosh,JV or Varsity) to the jacket once it is earned. Our players work hard and are proud to be Radnor Football players therefore they will be able to wear their jackets throughout their high school football careers. Order forms will be available on Wednesday are are due the following Thursday, Sept 24th, at the pasta party. If you have any questions please email MaryJo @ ripmjcollins@yahoo.com Thanks, Rip PS If you have any questions, please email me.

Last minute topics before the Prevost Bowl this Friday
September 2, 2009 --
I hope everyone is ready for our first game of the season this Friday and has invited all their neighbors. There are a few last minute announcements that I want to share. 1) The Paddock Restaurant has agreed to be the Official sponsor of the Prevost Bowl this Friday. They are the providers of the great signs you have seen on Lancaster Avenue for the last month. 2) There will be a Booster social following the game this Friday night, at the Paddock. All Boosters, alumni and fans of Radnor football are welcome. Come and enjoy some great conversation about the game in a great family restaurant and bar. 3) After the game stick around for a few minutes to watch the first awarding of the Prevost Bowl Trophy on the 50 yard line. 4) Tuesday nights following each game Coach Ryan has agreed to review the game films with any Boosters that are interested in a technical review of the game. The film session will be held at 6:30pm in the health room, enter the school in the main entrance, walk straight ahead and you will find it. It should last 45 minutes. 5) Do you think you have an announcers voice? Our regular Public Address announcer can not make 2 of our home games this year. We are looking for volunteers to announce the game. The games are on 9/11 (Penncrest) and 11/14 (Lower Merion). 6) Pasta party is this Thursday at immediately following practice. If you are providing food please bring it to the cafeteria between 4:30-5:00. Remember we will not have use of the ovens this week so please bring your dishes already warmed. Volunteers are always welcome to help serve. It is a fun event to attend! 7) Reminder - you are NOT allowed on the sidelines during games without a Sideline Pass. This is a new PIAA rule and includes our photographers. I have reserved 2 Sideline passes for photographers. The names on the passes are: Truda Carney and Marcia Mohoric. 8) We need 3 voluntee rs to sell programs as people walk in to the stadium. It is a fun and social job. After the game begins, we only need one person at the top gate (the Fan Shop will sell the programs at the lower gate after the initial rush). This is traditionally a Jr. parent role, however, there are not many of us and almost all are actively engaged already in activities Friday. Therefore, I would love if a senior or sophomore parent could help out- please. 9) 50/50. We also need 2-4 sophomore parent volunteers to sell 50/50s. Robin McCurdy and Iris Ashley are running the 50/50, they will need some assistance to walk the stands once per quarter. It is an easy and very social job but it does take more than one person to make the fund raising successful. Don't worry, there is no "selling " involved - people want to buy the tickets. Freshmen parents are welcome to help out too! 10 ) Freshman parents - thank you for working the Fan Shop. If you are not signed up yet, please stop by the tent and introduce yourself, we can always use more hands. Rip

HYDRATE and Update
August 18, 2009 --
Important Message from Booster Club President To the Radnor Football Booster Club Family,
Hydrate Pre-season is in full swing and the boy are in great shape due to all their conditioning this summer. However, it is Very hot at practice. Your son cannot hydrate enough during practice and when they are at home.
At practice: I have spoken with Coach Ryan, he and the rest of the coaches are aware and concerned about the heat and your son’s health. They are aware of the risks associated with the heat and the wide variance of how individuals react to it. They are on alert to watch for signs of dehydration and exhaustion. I take comfort that most of these men are educators and all of them truly have the well being of your sons at heart. At practice water breaks have been increased and there is water available at each practice station. In addition, the schools athletic trainer is on campus the entire day and checks in with the coaches and players throughout our practices.
At home: The boys should be drinking constantly when at home. An old rule of thumb is that they should also be urinating constantly when home, if this not happening then they are not fully hydrated and they are not drinking enough. Please help your son by encouraging this behavior.
Other Updates: *All players will have off the Saturday and Sunday (8/28-29) after the Sun Valley Scrimmage. The boys will have no football activities.
* Varsity players will have a 90 minute film session on Sat. (9/5) after the Carroll game. There will be no football activity on the Sunday (9/6) following the game.
* Ads and Shout-outs for the program are being accepted. Please contact Mike Hobson ASAP to make the deadlines. Mike’s email address is mikehobson@comcast.net
*This Saturday. Scrimmage vs. Owen J. Roberts at 10am.
* Picnic immediately following the scrimmage. Please bring your class assigned food. (see prior email for your assignment).
