CHICORA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Division A #2 Armstrong Beer / Countyline Tavern vs. Division A #1 Millerstown Inn

Millerstown Inn took a 1-0 lead in the best of 5 championship series, posting a 5-3 victory in Game 1. Both pitchers were effective as Millerstown's Tim Dietrich held Armstrong to only 5 hits & Armstrong's Scott Petras held Millerstown to only 8 hits. Dave Tarr was the top hitter for Millerstown Inn with a double and a single. Keith Clark hit 2 singles for Armstrong. Game 2 is Thursday at St. Patrick's.

Armstrong Beer / Countyline Tavern evened the series 1-1 with a 10-9 victory in Game 2 of the CLCS. Millerstown held an early 9-0 lead, but Armstrong came back in the 5th, 6th, & 7th innings; scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to win the game. Richie Toy led Armstrong at the plate, going 3 for 3. DJ Kutch, Brad Bothell, & Brad Myers each had 2 hits and Lee Solada added a homerun for Armstrong. Kenny Bussard pitched for the win. Game 3 will be Monday, August 20th at Fairview Township Field.

Millerstown broke open a close game in the bottom of the 6th inning, taking control of Game 3 & winning 21-11. Millerstown hit 8 homeruns in the game; including Dave Tarr, Sluggo Smith, & Justin Alessio each with 2 HR's. Jason McCollough & Nathan McCollough each hit 1 homerun. For Armstrong, Matt Shaffer was 4 for 4, including a homerun & a double. Richie Toy homered & Nick DeLuca added a double & a single. Tim Dietrich was the winning pitcher. Game 4 will be Tuesday, August 21st at St. Patrick's.

Millerstown Inn captured the Chicora Area Softball League Championship, winning Game 4 of the CLCS by a score of 9-5. They out-hit Armstrong 14 to 7 in the game. Jake Cuffman led the way with a homerun & a single. Brandon Goldinger, Sluggo Smith, Brian Hobaugh, & Brian Best each had 2 singles. Matt Shaffer had 2 singles for Armstrong. Tim Dietrich pitched for the win for Millerstown. It is their second consecutive league championship.

SEMI-FINALS

Division B #3 Ball's Distributor vs. Division A #1 Millerstown Inn

Millerstown Inn took a 1-0 advantage in this Semi-Final series, winning Game 1 by a score of 16-10. Dave Tarr led the way with 2 homeruns. Brandon Goldinger & Tony Ryan each also hit homeruns. Tim Dietrich was the winning pitcher. Game 2 will be Wednesday, August 8 at St. Wendelin's.

Game 2 was suspended because of darkness after seven innings and a 22-22 tie. There were 14 homeruns in the slugfest. For Millerstown Brandon Goldinger, Jake Cuffman, and Dave Tarr each hit 2 homeruns. Jason McCollough, Matt Clayton, and Justin Alessio each hit 1 homerun. For Ball's Dist. Travis McDougal hit 2 homeruns while Josh Loos, Danny Ball, & Nathan Markle each hit 1 homerun. Both managers agreed to play game 3 on Thursday at Fairview & wait to finish Game 2 if necessary.

Millerstown Inn won Game 3 by a score of 16-6. Millerstown took a 7-0 lead in the the 4th inning. Then, Ball's made it close with 5 runs int he 5th to make it 7-5. But Millerstown answered with 8 runs of its own in the 5th inning to put the game away. Jake Cuffman & Sluggo Smith each hit 2 homeruns, while Dave Tarr, Tony Ryan, & Brandon Goldinger each hit 1 homerun. Tim Dietrich was the winning pitcher. Millerstown advances to the Championship series against division rival Armstrong Beer / Countyline Tavern.

Division A #2 Armstrong Beer / Countyline vs. Division B #1 Bachelors II

Armstrong won Game 1 of the Semi-Finals by a score of 7-3. Bachelors scored 2 in the bottom of the 1st inning, but only managed 1 run the rest of the game. Armstrong posted 4 runs in the top of the 3rd to take a 5-2 lead & it proved to be all they would need. Kenny Bussard led the way for Armstrong with a homerun, double, & single. Richie Toy had a double & a single and Matt Shaffer added 2 singles. Tyler Callihan had a double & a single for Bachelors, while Andrew Larimore & Doug Augustine each added 2 singles. Scott Petras was the winning pitcher. Game 2 will be Wednesday, August 8 at St. Patrick's.

Armstrong completed the 2-0 sweep of Bachelors II in the Semi-Finals, winning Game 2 by a score of 9-7. Armstrong took a 1-0 lead into the 3rd inning when Bachelors posted 6 runs. Bachelors managed 6 hits in the inning, highlighted by Tyler Callihan's inside the park homerun. Armstrong fought back though, and scored three runs in the 4th & four in the 5th inning to take the lead for good. Kenny Bussard, Richie Toy, & Brad Bothell each had key hits in both the 4th & the 5th innings. Bussard was again the top hitter for Armstrong with a homerun, double, & a single. Keith Clark had a double & 2 singles; Toy & DJ Kutch each had 3 singles; & Bothell had a homerun & a double. For B II, Callihan had a homerun & a single and Dave Craig had a triple & a single. Scott Petras pitched for the win. Armstrong will face the winner of Ball's Distributor & Millerstown Inn next week in the championship series.

FIRST ROUND

Division A #3 API vs. Division A #2 Armstrong Beer / Countyline

Armstrong Beer scored 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge API 7-6. DJ Kutch drove in the tying run and scored the winning run for Armstrong. Armstrong led 4-0 entering the 7th inning, when API rallied for 6 runs, including 4 runs from CJ Sanders' inside the park grand slam. Keith Clark led the way for Armstrong with a homerun. Scott Petras was the winning pitcher. The next game in this series will be Wednesday, August 1st at St. Patrick's

API evened the series at 1-1 with a 7-6 victory over Armstrong Beer / Countyline Tavern Wednesday night. Top hitters for API were Brandon Brauers & CJ Sanders, each with 2 hits. Corey Francheschi had 2 hits for Armstrong & Lee Solada homered for Armstrong. Marty Gray was the winning pitcher for API. The deciding Game 3 of this series will be played Friday, August 3rd at St. Patrick's.

Armstrong Beer/Countyline won Game 3 by a score of 16-6 to advance to the Semi-Final round against Bachelors II. Top hitters for Armstrong were Kenny Bussard and Tim Rupert, they each were 4 for 4 with a homerun. Lee Solada, Rick Boltz, and Keith Clark each added homeruns as well. Marty Gray was 3 for 3 for API. Armstrong outhit API 24-12. Scott Petras was the winning pitcher.

Division A #4 Goodfellows vs. Division A #1 Millerstown Inn

Unfortunately, Goodfellows forfeited Game 2. Millerstown Inn advances to the Semi-Finals & will play Ball's Distributor in a rematch of last year's championship series.

Millerstown Inn began this series with a decisive 10-2 victory over Goodfellows. Jason McCollough homered and singled for Millerstown. Nathan McCollough had a double & 2 singles, and Justin Alessio added a double & a single. Tim Dietrich was the winning pitcher, allowing just 3 hits. The next game in this series will be Thursday, August 2nd at St. Patrick's.

Division B #4 Chicora VFW vs. Division B #1 Bachelors II

Bachelors II scored took an early lead and never looked back in Game 2, winning 12-2. Top hitters for Bachelors were Doug Augustine with 3 homeruns, and Jason Kelly & Jim Harmon each had 3 singles and a double. Joe Callihan & Dave Craig also each had homeruns. Top hitters for Chicora VFW were Josh Friel with a double & a single and Joey Friel with 2 singles. Doug Augustine came out of the bullpen to get the win on the pitchers mound. Bachelors II will play the winner of Armstrong Beer and API in the Semi-Finals.

Bachelors II scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and withstood a late rally by VFW to win 9-7 in Game 1 of this series. Top hitters for Bachelors were Tyler Callihan with a triple & a single, Doug Augustine with a double and a single, and Dave Craig with 2 singles. VFW's top hitters were Dillon O'Donnell who had a triple & a double & Eli Christie who had a double & a single. Chris Bellis was the winning pitcher. The next game will be Thursday, August 2nd at St. Wendelin's.

Division B #3 Ball's Distributor vs. Division B #2 Herman Mini-Mart

Ball's Distributor jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning and added to it throughout the game. Herman Mini-Mart made a late charge in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Ball's held on to win Game 1 by a score of 11-8. Josh Loos & Travis McDougal each hit homeruns for Ball's. Ryan "Pud" Protzman was the winning pitcher. Their next game will be Wednesday, August 1st at St. Wendelin's.

Ball's Distributor completed the 2-0 sweep with a 17-11 victory over Herman Mini-Mart. Travis McDougal had 2 homeruns for Ball's while Nathan Markle added a homerun. Kolby Gregory homered for Herman Mini-Mart. Ryan "Pud" Protzman pitched for the win, his 2nd win of the series. Ball's will advance to the Semi-Finals & could possibly have a rematch of last year's championship series if Millerstown Inn wins their series.

Open Class

The Open tournament was cancelled due to lack of interest. Only 2 teams registered, Bachelors II (Chicora League) & Our Gangs (Shenango Valley League). There has been some talk of the tournament being rescheduled for the weekend of August 4-5 in Meadville if there is enough interest.

Class A

Millerstown Inn, won the Class A Tournament. They went 4-0 in the tournament. This is their 2nd State Championship in a row. Congratulations. Following is the order of finish:
