The WYFCL is a member of the (Peninsula Youth Football and Cheerleading Organization PYFCO). We have a total of 8 football teams broken down into age divisions (5-6 (flag), 7-8, 9-10, 11-12), with a sideline cheerleading squad for each team.
WYFCL OBJECTIVE and BACKGROUND:
The objective of the WYFCL is to teach boys and girls, ages 5 to 12 years old, the physical and mental skills of individual responsibility and teamwork through playing the game of football, cheerleading and their related activities.
The WYFCL began with three teams in 1997 and jumped to seven teams in 1998, expanding to a GREEN side and a GOLD side. From 2003 through the 2006 season, the WYFCL downsized to four teams due to decreased participation. The WYFCL expanded back to seven teams in 2007 and maintained seven teams for the 2015 season with about 250 boys and girls in the program. We will expand to 8 teams in 2016 by having TWO flag football teams for the 5&6 year olds.
Football players compete against players their own age and weight (Unlimited weights for each age division in 2016). Cheerleaders cheer for teams their own age.
WYFCL MISSION STATEMENT:
1. Develop the fundamentals of the game of football and cheerleading.
2. Act as a feeder system for experienced players and cheerleaders to local middle schools and high schools.
3. Introduce the team concept to participating children, coaches and parents.
4. Establish an understanding of the commitment necessary by the parents and the athletes in order to enhance their success, both on and off the field.
