FURY WINS 2003 STATE CUP
The Mustang Fury U-13 girls Al Caffodio Class 1 team defeats De Anza Strykers in the Northern California State Cup championship game held in Petaluma last weekend. The Fury will represent Northern California Youth Soccer Association in the Far West Regional Tournament in Hawaii in June.
The two top-ranked teams in the U-13 age group battled for 70 minutes with a scoreless end of regulation time. Two minutes into the first half of overtime, the Fury scored the golden goal. Jillian Armstrong passed the ball to Katelyn Mogannam, who crossed the ball into the box where Gabrielle Parisella headed the ball into the net as the Stryker keeper attempted to punch the ball away.
Excellent team defense that held the Strykers scoreless was led by Hannah Marsala, Marissa Zamora, Jennifer LaPonte, Alexa Stringer and Keeper Colleen Garrehy. Midfield strength was controlled by Rachel Kahn, Samantha Stagner, and Valerie Hamra. The numerous shots on goal were led by Lauren Anderson, Courtney Jones, Caitlin Bergin, Leah Payne and Rachel Miller.
The Fury’s overall record this year was 44 wins, 4 losses and 5 ties. Excellent teamwork, dedication and determination were the key to the team’s success and all players contributed to the final victory.
