ALL STAR WEAK END: National League Celebrates First Ever All Star Game Forfeit
The 2008 NABA All Star game was one to remember. It was uneventful like most all star games until it became clear to the American League that the game could be tied after nine innings. The members of the team agreed that they would be content with a tie because nobody knew when the game would end and many of the players had to work early the next morning. When Coach Sova presented this idea to the National League team in the middle of the ninth he was met with outrage and ridicule mostly from members of the Grays. Apparently their parents would not be arriving to pick them up for another half hour. The National League failed to score in the bottom of the ninth and players from the American League lined up for the post-game handshakes. Again it was outrage from Grays’ players. Apparently they had not had enough at-bats despite the fact that in a classy move the Grays manager had filled the top five spots in the National League line-up with fellow Grays. One Grays player shouted that if they would not keep playing it must be a forfeit and not a tie. Not one single member of the American League team cared and so the first forfeit in the history of all star games anywhere was granted. Another Grays player commented “It’s no wonder that both teams in the championship were from the National League.” During the game Grays players demonstrated this prowess by being part of a group that struck out 11 times in 4 innings (yes that is mathematically possible) versus Cubs pitcher Paul Sova who was pitching on two days rest. Combined with his last outing that made 22 K’s for Paul in his last 9 innings and 25 in his last 11. Cubs first basemen Corey Blair was reached for comment after the game. “I really hope we get to play the Grays next year but I doubt it will happen. I imagine by next year those guys will all be playing in the Cape Cod League or reporting to camp for whatever Major League team drafts them. The NABA All Star Game always draws a lot of scouts and they had to be impressed.” Meanwhile it has been reported that the Grays are under investigation by the league for activities deemed illegal in the NABA such as holding practices, having signs and designing plays. “It seems the Grays may have been taking these games seriously all year and that is definitely not something we can allow in this league.” Stated NABA investigator Dave Finucane. In related news the Cubs leading vote getter was Corey Blair with 11 votes including 4 that he cast for himself. Following Blair was Paul Sova with 8, Jimmy De’Bonds with 7 and TJ Flint with 6. After De’Bonds and Flint big-leagued coach Sova and declined the invitation Jeff Finucane and Alex Rybczak were invited as replacements. After they also big-leagued coach Sova, Zach and Rich Sova were named the replacements after they were the first to respond. The American League’s All Star Game MVP award was given to the Warrior’s Chad Blackmon. Chad’s main contribution to the game was a head-first slide towards 3rd base in which he bounced twice and then crawled the remaining 3 feet to the bag. The team knew early on that nothing was going to top that.
WE'RE GOIN STREAKING: Cubs beat Mets, Yanks, and Expos to close season with 7 straight W's
The Cubs got hot just in time to storm back and claim the 2008 American League Title. Despite being short handed for the final 5 games the Cubs were able to piece together 5 wins vs the Mets, Yankees, and Expos. On top of 2 wins vs the Orioles that make 7 straight for the Cubbies. More is to come for thi article but it's time for Jacob and Emily to eat.
VINDICATED: Mother of Cubs player clears his name, Cubs win 3rd straight
Amid speculation that Jose Canseco will mention Cubs first baseman Matt Franklin in his upcoming book "Vindicated" as an obvious HGH abuser, Franklin's mother has provided the Tribune with photographic eveidence that would appear to clear her son's name. The passage in question reads as follows "Who does this guy (Franklin) think he's fooling? He wears a size 12 and 3/4 hat. That's three full sizes larger than New Era even sells in stores. I don't know how he keeps his balance with a dome like that." The photo provided by Mrs. Franklin shows Matt as a 2 year old Cubs fan. She claims it proves that Matt's head was indeed very large as a young child and that it's immense size is not the result of prolonged HGH use. Matt told reporters before Monday's game vs the Mets that he felt relieved. It showed in his play as well. Matt recorded two hits and tallied four RBI's literally. Matt was so excited to have driven in runs that he asked the umpire for time so that he could personally record the RBI's in the book. Matt's efforts helped the Cubs to the victory behind Paul Sova's solid pitching preformance in the 6-2 win. Corey Blair suffered a broken nail during the game and is considered day to day (arent't we all). The win moves the Cubs just a game back of the division leading Rochester Royals. The Cubs next game will be played whenever it stops raining against whoever can play that day.
THIS JUST IN: After watching a replay of the Cubs/ Mets game at Hilton, video evidence clearly shows the size of Matt's skull was a huge factor in him being thrown out at home. Mrs. Franklin was asked how she felt after the play, and responded with a shake of her head and a quiet, "focus Matt."
BLAME IT ON THE RAIN
In what is seeming more and more like a conspiracy to keep the Cubs out of first place, NABA games were concelled for the second consecutive week. The above picture shows that the field was clearly playable this week yet the games were canclled anyway. With the Cubs currently sitting in 3rd place, it now seems that they may not have the opportunity to win their way back to the top of the standings before the playoffs begin. With the weather not cooperating the rest of the 18+ NABA season will be played via fantasy baseball. It is almost certain that the Cubs will select Kosuke Fukudome with their first pick in the fantasy draft. When asked to comment on his possible first selection Cubs GM Dave Finucane kept it simple "Two words, JERSEY SALES!"
Much Awaited instructional video "Play Baseball the Sova Way" has Release Date
A release date of July 19th has been set for the groundbreaking instructional video "Play Baseball the Sova Way." The video has received much attention as it was supposed to be released last year but was blocked by people that really know how to play baseball around the nation. When reached for comment the video's founder Tim Sova stated, "This has been a dream of mine to release a video like this for years. I have always wanted to pass on my wisdom of the finer points of the game to the youth of America." An advanced screening of the video shows that it contains several important lessons ex. How to get picked off 1st, How to get picked off 2nd, How to get picked off 3rd, How to run your team out of innings, How to throw sliders from the outfield, and most importantly, "The Games not official until you get Hit by a pitch."
General Consensus after recent Cubs win
OUTTAKES: Kenny Mayne gets the scoop on league leading hitter Corey Blair.
KM: For starters Corey are you aware that you are leading the league in hitting?
CB: Well yeah, I kind of assumed that. It’s probably because I’m awesome.
KM: Recently your team suffered though its first ever four game losing streak, what do you think caused the struggles?
CB: The fact that I only get three to four at-bats a game.
KM: Probably the only glaring weakness in your game is your foot-speed. Is their anything you’re doing to improve in that area?
CB: Well, before our next game I’m going to pick up about 10 KFC Snackers. I’ll give them to the Sova brothers and have them leave them on the bases ahead of me. Starting at second, of course. I don’t hit anything less than a double and there’s no need to rush when they intentionally walk me.
KM: Up until rather recently you were housemates with teammate Matt Franklin. What happened there?
CB: Matt and I are great friends but while living in the same house we were constantly butting heads. Finally we had to get a second refrigerator. In the end we both decided that we needed our own kitchens as well and Matt moved out. I asked Lauren to marry me so she could move in and cover the lost rent.
KM: Did coach Sova know about the problems between you and Matt.
CB: I think he had an idea. When he came over to watch Michigan football games he always brought food with him. Eating with us is probably why he's lost a step.
KM: Any predictions for the Cubbies this season?
CB: I don’t know, maybe they’ll trade me to a contender?
KM: Well that about does it. It’s been a pleasure talking to you.
CB: Yes, I know.
CUBS BACK ON TRACK! SWEEP ORIOLES
Strong pitching and balanced hitting carried the Cubs to two big victories against a strong Orioles squad. In game one Jeff Finucane threw a gem, recording 5 strikeouts and allowing just 2 hits in the 6-0 shutout. Offensively six different Cubs accounted for the 6 runs. Matt Franklin led the Cubs with 2 hits and Jimmy Debay drove in 2 runs with a a double. Mike Flaherty showed up hungover for the second consecutive week but found a way to contribute. Mike walked once and was hit by a pitch twice. Our reporters caught up with him after the game. "I knew I couldn't hit it today so I just let it hit me. I got a few pointers from coach Sova before the game and it really paid off." Game two featured another strong pitching preformance this time from Brandon Mendola making his 2008 Cubs debut. Brandon allowed just 3 hits and 2 runs while striking out 9 in 7 innings of work. Again the 5 Cubs runs were scored by five different fellas in the 5-2 win. Paul Sova and Corey Blair each had a pair of singles but Adrian Daniels had the Cubs biggest hit with a solo shot into the wind in center field. The Cubs have off for the 4th of July weekend but will resume play on July 13th in a big matchup against the division rival Mets.
Cubs ship is sinking
CUBS DUMPED ON AGAIN!
Not much has been going right for the Cubs lately. In game one vs the Rochester Royals the Cubs spoiled a 13 K effort by Paul Sova and blew a late lead for the 3rd consecutive game. Paul cruised until the 7th inning when he finally allowed 2 runs to the top of the Royals line-up. The 2 runs tied the game and the Royals added an unearned run in the 8th to pull out the victory 3-2. The Royals seemed overmatched by Paul but made the plays needed to keep the game close and eventually pull out the win. When asked how he felt about losing the game Paul provided reporters with his usual modest clichés... "My team sucks! All we could score was two freakin runs? And who scored those? Let me check, hmmmm what a surprise... ME!" Too bad I can't play every position!" Game two of the twin bill was the Matt Franklin show. Matt got his first start on the bump in 2008. The only question was whether he would record more K's on the mound or in the batter's box. After 7 innings Matt had 3 in both locations. The Cubs lost the game 8-3. After learning of the Cubs efforts NABA commissioner John Scarpelli moved next weeks game from Olympia to a little league complex in Henrietta. Henrietta Little League's 13 year old all-star game has been switched to Olympia. "Nothing against the Cubs but those 13 year olds can really swing the bat and could use the extra outfield space." Scarpelli explained.
SOVA ADDRESSES RUMORS AS MEDIA CIRCUS CONTINUES
"Of course it affects me." Sova told reporters at an afternoon press conference. "I'd like to think that my past success would carry me through this but I guess the honeymoon is over. I don't want to say that all this is because I'm white, but it does stink a little bit. All I can do is do my job the best way I know how and hope we can right the ship." To make matters worse Sova has had to deal with infighting in the clubhouse. He has recently suspendend right handed hurler Jeff Finucane after making negative comments to the media about third baseman TJ Flint. "That's the kind of thing we like to deal with in the clubhouse." Sova said. "Jeff knows that and he has reached out to TJ but we still feel the suspension is necessary." The suspension only fueled the rumors that Sova's job was in jeopardy because Jeff is the brother of General manager Dave Finucane who holds Sova's future in his hands. For the time being Sova remains in charge and will look to get back on the right track next week versus the Rochester Royals at West Irondequoit.
Cubs won’t guarantee Sova will be working much longer
June 18, 2008
GREECE RIDGE MALL – Tim Sova admitted earlier today, days before the first game of the Cubs’ doubleheader with the Royals this Sunday, that he had no idea what scenario guarantees him a spot in the third base coaches box for the Cubs’ next doubleheader.
“I don’t know what has to happen,” he said. “Win one, split, win two, or I might lose both and still be able to fill out terrible lineup cards.”
This news has come about after the Cubs recently dropped two games back of the Canadians in the NABA standings. The two losses were directly correlated to two horrible decisions made by Coach Sova.
In two losing efforts, Sova forgot the golden rule of the Cubbies –THE MORE SOVAS IN THE LINEUP... THE BETTER– Rons Sova was spotted cheering the Cubbies on from the sidelines during the end of game one and game two. If Coach Sova found a spot for Rons (maybe batting #2 and playing centerfield), the team may still be undefeated.
A secondary mistake made by the floundering coach was to not have any spare players or cold refreshments. Some Cubs starters were sweating at an incredible rate on the particularly humid afternoon. “I was sweating at an incredible rate” said Matt Franklin after legging out a double into a single. “It would have been nice to have some water at games for a change. I was parched, and it affected my performance.”
The losses angered many of the Cubs including the team’s general manager, Dave Finucane. “You know my feelings on it. I think we’re not playing up to our potential. I like to leave myself room to be able to evaluate those things,” Finucane said after the second game.
Finucane’s caginess cast a pall on what seemed to be an otherwise sweaty afternoon. TJ Flint almost saved Sova’s job for another week. Down by one, with one on and one out, Flint hit a ball off the top of the fence. Flint attributed his 8-14 batting success to the coach batting him down in the order. “I finally got a jersey, I don’t want to anger coach Sova or he might take it away” said Flint when questioned about the possible release of the manager.
“It’s getting tiresome talking about it,” said Paul Sova. “We just have to go out and do what we can. We go on a nice run and start winning, everyone can take a deep breath and relax and enjoy the game. It’s not fun for any manager, especially my brother and biggest supporter, to be on the hot seat.”
Sova has led the club to two NABA championship’s in the past 4 years at the helm. However, this hasn’t seemed to impress Dave Finucane. “This organization’s motto is what have you done for me lately,” Finucane screamed “and this past week [Sova] hasn’t done s%$@!” The coach’s second official Father’s Day left him confused and beleaguered at the plate. Sova was 0-6 during the double-header and didn’t even record a hit by pitch. If Sova will remain a Cub through the end of the season is a mystery. Only one thing is for certain, he needs to improve both his performance on the field and in the coach’s box.
NO BREAKS FOR CUBS VS CANADIANS
Despite out-hitting the Canadians in both games of Sunday's doubleheader at Aquinas the Cubs could not finish th job in either game. The Cubs blew a 4 run lead in game one and a 3 run lead late in game two to pick up their first two losses of 2008. In both comebacks the Canadians took the lead with homeruns in their final at-bats. Game two was the tougher loss to take as TJ Flint had a potential walk-off homerun bounce off of the top of the fence yet somehow stayed in the yard. Instead of being the hero TJ settled for a double and was stranded on second base with Mike Flaherty on third as the Cubs fell just an inch short of the victory. "I really feel like I let the team down by being a three beer queer the night before" TJ said. "Two or three more 12 ounce curls last night and that ball leaves the yard." Some teammates tried to pick up TJ's spirits after the game but the loss was clearly his fault. Pitcher Jeff Finicane threw TJ under the bus in a postgame interview. "This guy gets a jersey and hits a homerun vs the Warriors and all of the sudden he thinks he's too good to put in his @#%*ing weight training? I hope he learned a valuable lesson today." Jeff later apologized to a nun doing yardwork for his foul language on the Catholic school grounds.
TJ Finally Gets His Jersey!
Cubs third baseman TJ Flint finally received a jersey in his third season with the Cubs. "Its a great feeling." TJ said "First I got a hat, now this, I feel like I really fit in now. Some of the guys even talked to me this week. They kept calling me rookie even though this is my third year but still its good to feel like one of the guys." The jersey was presented to TJ by Bud Selig in a pregame ceremony. The Norton's Pub t-shirt TJ had been wearing will be on display in TJ's closet. Come see TJ and the rest of the Cubs take on some foreign team this Sunday at Aquinas.
Cubs take on Canadians Eh
The 4-0 Defending Champion Cubs are aboot to take on the Canadians this weekend. Should be a good matchup eh? Get to the game early as the first 3 fans in attendance will receive a complimentary bottle of maple syrup.
MERCY!!!
The Cubs are off to a fast start in 2008. This year’s squad is 4-0 so far and is out-scoring their opponents 55 to 7 as three of the first four games have ended via the 10 run mercy rule. The first two games against the Hilton Clippers were never close. The Clippers are new to the league this year and struggled both offensively and defensively in their 18-2 and 19-1 mercy rule losses to the Cubbies. In a sit down interview with Chicago Tribune staff reporter Dave Finucane, Matt Franklin discussed the Cubs first opponent of 2008. Dave: “After playing two games against the Clippers, how do you think the Clippers will do in their inaugural season?” Matt: “The Clippers will definitely take their lumps this season. They remind me a lot of the Cubs in our first season except the hitting and the pitching and the defense isn’t quite at the same level. Actually they are nothing like the 2004 Cubs. What are we talking about again? Did you know my ERA is 0.00 right now?”
Week two brought more success for the Cubs against a tougher opponent. In game one against the Brockport Warriors Jeff Finucane and Corey Blair busted out the big sticks blasting homeruns that were in no way, shape or form aided by the wind or a short left field fence. T.J. Nietopski-Flint did some yard work as well screaming “I own this park!!!” as the ball left the bat. Finucane picked up the win on the mound allowing 3 runs in 6 innings before being relieved by Mathew Franklin. Franklin allowed one run in the 7th and the Cubs were 8-4 winners. Game two also featured the long ball as Finucane dropped his second bomb over Bagdad of the day. The real story of the game was the 6 inning no-hitter tossed by Paul Sova. The no-no was in question after Zach Sova made a sliding attempt on but dropped a line-drive to right field in the top of the 6th. When asked, the field umpire said he would have ruled the play an error because the ball struck Zach in the chest and was very “catchable”, which according to Microsoft Word is not an actual word. The umpire’s opinion was used as the official ruling because he new nothing of the no-hitter and so the no-no remained intact. Zach made up for his blunder by driving in the Cubs 10th run in the bottom of the 6th which put the mercy rule into play, ended the game, and secured the no-hitter. Paul struck out 5, walked 1, and accidentally hit one batter as part of the no-hit effort.
CUBS TO BEGIN TITLE DEFENSE IN FAMILIAR TERRITORY
May 28, 2008
The defending NABA Champion Cubs will begin their title defense Sunday, June 1st at John Morgan Park in Hilton. The same location where they won both the 2005 and 2007 Championship games. Though legions of Cubs fans will be disappointed to learn that John Morgan will not return to the roster this season, he will be with the team in spirit and will be available should the Cubs need a player to fill in during the weeks that he is available. As Morgan makes his transition to the broadcast booth, work obligations will prevent him from returning full time. The Cubs first opponent will be the Hilton Clippers, one of six expansion teams joining the league this season. Cubs slugger Corey Blair can't wait to take his first hacks this season. "With all the expansion the pitching should be really watered down this year. Matt Franklin may be one of the top 50 pitchers in the league." Corey will have to wait to take those hacks as he, Adrian Daniels, Mike Flaherty and Robert (Fig) Newton all remain on the 15 day DL from injuries sustained during the Cubs rigorous Spring Training program. Greg Macomber's status for the opener is also in question. The Odyssey Tribune attributed the following quote to Mr. Macomber... "I'm not showing unless John Morgan's sweet ass is there." Batting practice will begin at 10:58am on Sunday. The game is scheduled for an 11am start.
The Cubbies are please to announce their new home field for the 2008 season "Frontier Field." The Cubs will play their home schedule in the house that P.J. Forbes build. The team finalized the deal this afternoon this coming after a meeting with current Frontier employee of the month Matt Franklin. Franklin passed on his complimentary mug and employee parking spot for the opportunity for the Cubs to play host to their NABA foes.
The Cubs will be giving our free magnetic schedules to the first 15 fans who are in attendance to the home opener. Fans will also be asked to stay after the games to help clean the stands of any trash as provisiton of thier aggreement with Rochester Community Baseball to leave the field better than the way they found it.
CUBS HOT STOVE REPORT
Seeking to bolster an already average line-up, Cubs managment has been in contact with Mike Flaherty. During contract negotiations Flaherty was quoted as saying "awwwwww sh*@" when told of the team's $200 player fee. The left-handed bat would add balance to a Cubs line-up that already features some dudes that swing that way. Its been some time since Mike has played with the small balls but as Ricky Henderson says "Hitting is just like riding a bike". Mike lost his appetite for baseball for a few years after accidentally catching a glimpse of UB coach Ronnie T in the shower.
CUBBIES TO HONOR FORMER STAR PETE LA COCK, RUMORS SWIRL THAT JOHN MORGAN MAY RETURN IN '08
August 17, 2007
The Cubs will honor former ladies favorite Pete La Cock by retiring his jersey before the home opener in 2008. While this should be an exciting event, news of the ceremony has been pushed to the back pages as rumors swirl that former Cub Captain John Morgan may return in '08. According to sources its not about the money. Morgan feels that the Cubs represent his best chances of claiming a 4th title before he retires. His return would certainly make the Cubs the favorites in 2008 especially if the championship were played in Hilton. Morgan cited the extremely loyal fan base as another motivating factor in his possible return.
Steroid accusations cloud Cubs championship
August 14, 2007
Cubs slugger Jimmy Debay is the latest player to be accused by Jose Canseco of steroid abuse. Debay went deep in Sundays championship game to clinch the win for the Cubs but his recent power surge is under suspicion of players and the many many fans of NABA baseball. A photo of Debay during his pregame workout seems to support Canseco's claims.
CUBS TAKE SECOND TITLE IN THREE YEARS
August 13, 2007
On a hot and sunny afternoon at the immaculate John Morgan Park in Hilton, NY, the Cubbies claimed their second title in three years in the 2007 Championship game against a well dressed Mets squad. The Cubs got off to a hot start as Paul Sova struck out the side in the top half of the first. The bats were also hot in the first as Corey Blair and Jimmy Debay each had RBI singles to put the Cubs out in front 2-0. The Cubs added to their lead in the 3rd as Player-Coach of the Year Tim Sova lined an RBI single over the shortstop to score Paul Sova who had reached on an HBP and swiped second base.
Those pesky Mets would not go quietly though. Just as it seemed the Cubs would cruise to the victory the Mets scored their first run in the 4th aided by an error, a wild pitch, a balk, and then a single. The Mets’ bats then got hot in the 5th as they scored two runs on three hits and tied the game 3-3.
In typical Cubbie fashion the Cubs responded immediately with a big inning in the bottom half of the 5th. Paul Sova’s base on balls was followed by an Alex Rybczak RBI double and an RBI single from Corey Blair. With the score at 5-3 Cubs Jimmy De’Bonds put the Mets out of reach with a towering two run shot to the deepest part of John Morgan Park. The Mets added a run in the 7th but fell to the Cubs by a final score of 7-4.
Stars of the game included Paul Sova who struck out 9 on the bump, scored 3 runs and stole 3 bases, Alex Rybczak who scored twice and had 2 hits including and RBI double, Corey Blair with 2 hits, 2 RBIs and a run scored, Jimmy De’Bonds who had 2 hits including a monstrous 2 run HR and 3 RBIs, and Coach Tim Sova who contributed an RBI single and a stolen base and crafted a killer line-up. The Cubs would like to thank their fans as this season’s attendance reached a record high 32 people. Another fine season of Cubbies baseball was brought to you by Chaser Plus Caplets, Bad Newz Kennels, and Skoal Long Cut. The Cubs would like to remind you kids that if you stay in school and work hard, some day you may be a Cub.
COACH SOVA IS PRAYING FOR A VICTORY

CUBS LEAD EAST ALL STARS OVER WEST 8-5
August 8, 2007 - 08:00 PM
Despite the fact that the Cubs' dominant pitching and John Morgan were not available, the East All-Stars were victorious Wednesday night at Frontier Field 8 to 5. Corey Blair had the biggest hit for the Cubs with a bases clearing double in one of the innings. Other Cubs also added hits in some of the innings. Besides coaching the East to a victory Tim Sova added a screaming ground out to third in his only at bat. This article would be more detailed but the book is in my car and Jabob is on my lap.
Mr Met's sexuality is in question.
August 8, 2007
Mr Met has been accused of being a homosexual. He was recently spotted at a local kareoke party with his alleged "partner" Bruce singing show tunes and dancing to Boy George albums. This distraction could not come at a worse time for the Mets as they are scheduled to face the red hot Cubs this weekend in the semi finals of the NABA playoffs. Mets officials declined to comment but noted that their mascot's sexuality would not be a distraction for the team on the field. Neither Mr or Mrs Met was available for comment.
