Starting pitcher "Jason Jarvis" shut down the Bears going all(9)innings and striking out (9) batters. Jarvis gave up no earned runs and was named "MVP" of the game. DH- Brett Grebe hit his only HR of the tourny in the second inning which tied the game 2-2. With the game at 3-2 in the 8th inning "Javier Gamboa" hit a lead off triple. Than catcher Kevin Gram walked to make it 1st and 3rd with 2 outs. Lehman called for a double steal which paid off and Javier Gamboa scored on the play before pinch runner "Larry Koweleski" was tagged out for the 3rd out. Storm now was up 4-2 and Jarvis shut down the Bears in the 9th to secure the win. Storm went 5-2 in the 28+ division and won it's second World Title in two years. The Storm 28+ team has entered two tournaments and have won both. Next tourny is in Jan 2009.

Storm 18+ Team loses in World Championship game
October 6, 2008 The Newport Beach Storm 18+ plus team was the strongest team ever assembled at the World Championships. The Storm went undefeated at 7-0 going into the Championship game as the #1 seed and faced off against the #2 seed LA Bruins who were the 2007 Champions. The Storm started RHP- Jeff Groeger who was the winning pitcher in the 2006 World Title win for the Storm. Groeger pitched great going (6) strong innings and only giving up (2) runs but only (1) was earned. Jessie Smith surrendered (1) earned run in the 7th to put the Storm down 3-0. High Schooler "Aaron Northcraft" came in to shut down the Bruins in the 8th and 9th innings. The Storm just could not get that timely hit when needed against OC Flyers pitcher Bob Kramer. The Storm left (9) runners on base in scoring position but could not get them across the plate. With winds blowing directly in from center field, 1B-Terry Mermer 425 shot to center with one man on fell short at the wall which would have tied the game at 2-2. We were the best team on the field that day and in the tournament but could not get the breaks we needed after (3) Bruin errors and out hitting the Bruins 7-6. Congrats to the bruins for pulling off another win and going back to back champions. Check stats under 18+ AZ division to see how everybody did.

Storm wins 6th straight AWBL title
August 21, 2008 In the final season of the AWBL the Newport Storm won it's 6th straight league title in the AWBL. Unfortunatly there was some drama in the Championship series against the Riptide which caused a forfeit of game three in the series and handed the Storm the title.

In game 1 Storm ace LHP "Jeff Olson" once again shut down the Riptide by only giving up one run in a complete game with 8k's. Jeff brought his record to 9-0 with a 1.5 ERA this season which is a AWBL record.

In game 2, RHP "Jon Fisher" also pitched a complete game and only gave up two runs and the Storm won the game 5-2 after some drama by a Riptide player who charged and threatened a league official in the 6th inning which got him a three game suspension which was the remainder of the play offs.

Game 3, started off with the coach of the Riptide disregarding the ruling of his player being suspended and had him in the line up. He was told before the game started that if he played that they would recieve a forfeit and he ignored the warning and had the player take the field. This was a selfish act and he made the decision with out asking his team first. This caused the Riptide to forfeit the game and lose the series. Storm sweeps 3-0!

Newport Beach Storm - 2008 AWBL League Champions

August 10, 2008 The Storm swept through the Tigers this last weekend with not much offense but manage to sneek out a couple of wins 2-0 and 3-1. Championship series starts 8/16 in a best of 5 series.

August 9, 2008 The Storm's RHP "Joe Northrop" was signed by the St. George Roadrunners in the Golden Baseball League this last Friday night. AWBL Opening days proves to be top league
March 10, 2008 The AWBL opened it's 2008 season this last Sunday and there were some great close games and one high scoring hitting battle. In the first game of the season the Storm's "Fernando Pacheco" was offered a contract from the Fullerton Flyers(GBL)to come to Spring Training in May. Just another player signed out of the AWBL which brings the total players signed to (22) since 2002. The Mezcal and East LA Dodger game was more like a football with 30 runs scored between the two teams. The Storm vs Riptide was a pitching battle and it came down to the final inning with closer Mike Rocco (Storm) and Bob Kramer(Riptide) held each team to no runs and 3k's each. The Tigers lost both games in their double header but both games were very close except for a bad inning in each game that left them trying to play catch up. The league looks really strong and with the addition of the Flyers scout team "TEAM VICTORY" every team is now very competitive. Every team in this league would win any other league in So. Cal and it's nice to see all of the top teams in So. Cal fighting for who's #1 and the $4000 prize purse.

Jeff Groeger - Championship game winner
October 8, 2006 RHP - Jeff Groeger pitched a gem in the Championship game against the Reno Astros in the AZ World Series Tournament on October 8th 2006. Jeff pitched (6) Shut out innings only to finally give up (2) earned runs in the 7th inning. We couldn't have done it with out Jeff's great pitching performance. The Reno Astros were made of professional players from the GBL which ended up being their downfall since Groeger had faced most of the Astros players all summer. Once again a great performance by Jeff Groeger. Matt Foster came in in the 8th and 9th innings to hold the Astros to no runs and no hits.

Newport Beach Storm - 2006 World Champions!!!
October 8, 2006 Newport Beach Storm - 2006 World Champions!!!
October 8, 2006 - -- The Newport Beach Storm surprised everybody yesterday at Peoria Stadium in Peoria Arizona with a 6-2 dominate win over the Reno Astros pro All-Star team. Starter Jeff Greoger threw (6) shut out Innings only to give up two earned runs in the 7th. With the Storm up 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Lehman went to the bullpen and called on LHP Matt Foster to close it out. Matt dominated the Astros by getting six straight outs to secure the World Championship for the Storm. Reno #1 seed had mercy ruled 4 of 5 games in Pool play and was 7-0 coming into the Championship game against the Storm. The Storm came into the championship game as the #7 seed with a 5-2 record and had scored (59) runs and only gave up (21) runs in seven games. The Storm pitching staff was solid and was led by new comer Eric Lindgren who threw (7) shut out Innings and (7)k's in game two over the Tri-State Titans and another Inning in play-off game one with (3)k's to strike out the side.. Final score was a seven Innning mercy rule of 15-0. Game (3) was a close win over the San Fransisco Benders with a 4-1 win and a great pitching performance from Larry Kowaleski. Game (4) was another Mercy rule over the Montabello Dukes of 12-2 and Outfielder Kalen Norton decided to pitch and eat up some Innings for us and only gave up (2)runs in (5)Innings of work. Game #5 matched us up against the Reno Astros (4-0) and with our Pro pitchers showing up for us Coach Jerry Lehman decided to save the arms and pitch game five. Lehman had the Astros off balance through out the whole game and only gave up (4) earned runs and (6)k's. Lehman got the loss of a 7-2 Storm loss but the important thing was we kept the runs low and got us into the play-offs as the seventh seed. Play-Off game #1 started RHP- Jeff Greoger (Fullerton Flyers) and from the first Inning we new it was over against the team who beat us in our first pool game, the Salt Lake City Lug Nuts. The Storm went up 7-0 by the second inning and Lehman decided to pull Greoger after only throwing 30 pitches to save him for the Championship game. The Storm went onto win 15-4 in a seven Inning mercy of the Lug Nuts. Play-off Semi Final started RHP- John Grijalva (Fullerton Flyers) who had gotten no sleep the night before, came out and dominated the Boston Rockies by striking out (8) and only giving up (2) earned runs in a complete game masterpiece. The Storm would go on to win 9-5. Offensive Stand out were Outfielder Chris Powell, Javier Gamboa, Nick Enciso, Josh Olsen and Rich Tobin. Championship game MVP was Javier Gamboa who hit a 2nd Inning HR over the bullpens in Left field and a 3-5 day. Golden Glove went to Hector Zamora(Fullerton Flyers) who made some amazing plays through out the whole tourny. Stats on the way and photos!!
