Joe Albert

Joe Albert has been involved in slow pitch softball for more than 50 years and is an 18 time All-American as a player or manager. His teams have won 16 Nationals titles and 3 World Championships. He played in two professional leagues and was selected to coach the North team in the 1989 Olympic Festival.

 

Joe began playing slow pitch softball in the early 1960s and quickly established himself as one of the game’s top players. While playing for powerhouse teams from the Washington DC Metro area, he played in the ASA Nationals for 10 straight years, from 1964 through 1973. He participated in at least one National or World Tournament every year from 1964 – 2000. His teams include Fred’s Inn, Fulford TV, Federal Wrecking, Shakey’s Pizza, Greenbelt Shell, Addie’s and Corner Pub. He was player/manager of John Hanson S&L, Ken Michaels, Steele Sports and Sunbelt Plastics.

 

In addition, Joe was a tireless promoter of slow pitch softball while working for Steele’s, De Beer, American Modern Metals (Power Flite) and Easton. Jim Ports once referred to Joe as “Maryland’s Mr. Softball”.
