League Rules


NORTHERN MONMOUTH PAROCHIAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE –

School/Parish Membership- Any school or parish of the Diocese of Trenton may enter the Northern Monmouth Parochial Basketball League.  League fees are determined every year based on costs associated with the league.

 

League Fees:

Entrance fee for each team is $750.00. Checks are to be made payable to Northern Monmouth County Parochial League and are due by the beginning of the season.

We need your League Fees-We can’t run the League without them.

 

Rosters:

Rosters needs to be submitted and uploaded on website prior to start of the season.

** If Rosters are not in/approved-both AD’s will be informed that the game counts as a forfeit **

 

 THE LEAGUE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REQUEST A BIRTH CERTIFCATE OF ANY PLAYER – ATHLETIC DIRECTOR MUST SUBMIT WITHIN 48 HOURS OF REQUEST

 

 

Officials will be assigned by the League Executive Director or his / her designee.

 Postponement of Regular Scheduled Games / Inclement weather:

 In case of inclement weather or emergencies the following procedure will be used:

 

The Athletic Director of the home team will have the sole authority to cancel a regular scheduled game. Host gym must notify all coaches of teams playing at your gym that day of the cancellation.  This should take place as early as possible, at the minimum, at least two (2) hours before the first game.

  •   The home Athletic Director will notify John Hickey- League Scheduler and Nick Z.-League assigner, via cell phone or text
  •   Coaches never cancel games Only Athletic Directors due to weather conditions.

 

****Locker Rooms****

 

A coach must be supervising all players during halftime/and in the locker room before and after the game.

Reporting scores: It is the obligation of the home team Coach to e-mail scores of their all games in their facility -WINS or LOSES by 9:00am the following morning.   Send scores to

ALL TEAMS MUST HAVE A DESIGNATED SITE DIRECTOR AT HOME GAMES

 

Eligibility Rules

 All players must be a registered student of the school/parish that they are playing for. In order to make allowances for special circumstances, players from parishes that do not offer a basketball program or who are cut from their school team may play on another team, however, no more than two players on any team may be from outside the parish unless extra religious education players from another parish are needed to fill out roster. Players who are seeking to play on a parish team other than their own must get a waiver signed by their athletic director or parish priest stating that they can play with designated parish.

 

JV Boys/Girls- Players are eligible who reach the maximum age of 13 during said season.  ** as of 9/1/2019

  • JV Boys Basketball Team will consist of 5/6th Grade Boys.
  • JV Boys team may include 4th Grade Boys to fill out a roster.

Note: JV Boys/Girls are not eligible to play on the Varsity Level unless approved by their Athletic Director.

 

Varsity Boys/Girls (7/8th Grade Level)- Players are eligible who reach the maximum age of 15 during said season. ** As of 9/1/2019

 Transfer Rule

 Once reaching 7th grade in any school (public/private), a player will have 2 years of eligibility for the Varsity Team. If a child repeats 7th grade-he/she has no eligibility once reaching his/her 8th grade year. If a student repeats 8th grade or transfers from another public/private school to repeat 8th Grade- HE/SHE can’t play as a second year 8th Grader. If a student transfers from another school prior to his/her 8th Grade year to complete his 8th Grade Year, he/she only has one year of eligibility.

 Playing Regulations:

Current year NFHS/NJSIAA High School Basketball rules will be adhered to with the following exceptions: 

Quarters will be seven (7) minutes long with stoppage for times outs, foul shots, and other infractions.

Teams will be allowed three (3) regular time outs of 60 seconds each during the entire game.  It is the Coach’s decision as to when they will be used.  Player’s will be allowed to sit on the bench during the time out.

Teams will also be allowed two (2) thirty second time outs each during the entire game.  It is the coach’s decision as to when they will be used.  Players will not be allowed to sit on the bench during this time out.

NFHA/NJSIAA rules for player numbers and matching shirts under uniform tops will not be enforced. All shirts must be tucked in and players must be properly attired before play begins.

If a team is leading by 20 or more points they will not be allowed to have any backcourt defense (pressing). The team with the lead must pull their defense back to below the 3-point line. Backcourt defense can resume again when the score falls below 20 points. All coaches are encouraged to use their coaching ability to keep the games competitive. The running up of scores will not be tolerated.

Both JV and Varsity Boys league will use a full size 29.5-inch ball, Girls League will use a full size 28.5-inch ball.

 

Press Rule

JV Boys/Girls

5/6 Grade Boys - The ball must pass the mid court line (by dribble or pass) before defenses can pick up. No pressing until the last 3 minutes of the 4th Quarter If the point differential is 20 points or more–THERE IS NO MORE PRESSING FOR THE REST OF THE GAME

6 Grade Only Boys Teams - Backcourt Defense (pressing) is allowed at any time unless there is a point differential of 20 or more–THEN THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE ANY BACKCOURT DEFENSE (Pressing), THE TEAM IN THE LEAD MUST PULL THEIR DEFENSE BACK TO BELOW THE 3 POINT LINE, Backcourt Defense (Pressing) can resume when the score falls below 20. However, if playing a 5th Grade only boys’ team please see 5th Grade Boys Only Teams rule.

 

5/6 Grade Girls Teams - The ball must pass the mid court line (by dribble or pass) before defenses can pick up. No pressing until the last 3 minutes of the 4th Quarter If the point differential is 20 points or more–THERE IS NO MORE PRESSING FOR THE REST OF THE GAME

Varsity Boys/Girls

Backcourt Defense (pressing) is allowed at any time unless there is a point differential of 20 or more–THEN THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE ANY BACKCOURT DEFENSE (Pressing), THE TEAM IN THE LEAD MUST PULL THEIR DEFENSE BACK TO MID COURT LINE, Backcourt Defense (Pressing) can resume again when the score falls below 20.

 

This is clearly a time to substitute players. No coach should leave his better players in to pressure the other team substitute.

One coach may stand unless told to be seated by a game official

League philosophy is

 Conduct

 

All Players, Coaches and Parents/Guardians must act in a sportsmanlike and courteous manner and the teachings of Our Lord.  Any Player, Coach who is ejected from a game, for any reason, will be suspended from attending the following 1 league games.  2nd Offense-Player/Coach will be suspended for next 3 games.

 The League reserves the right to increase the consequence of a 1st or 2nd suspension/disciplinary action if incident is deemed as excessive or provocative.

 If a coach, player, parent, etc., is asked to leave the gym and refuses, the game will not be resumed until that person leaves. The offending person will be barred from participating or attending the next 3 games. If that person refuses to leave the confines of the gym the officials can call a forfeit of that game. If a coach, player, parent, etc., is asked to leave the gym a second time during the season they will not be allowed to participate for the rest of that season.

 

 Playoffs

 Playoffs - All teams are guaranteed 1 Playoff Game, SEATING IS BASED UPON SCHEDULER STARTS SCHEDULING BASED ON THE STANDINGS ON THE WEBSITE AT THAT TIME, NO ADJUSTMENT FOR STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO SUBMIT SCORES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

 Only Teams part of the Diocese of Trenton may move on to Diocese of Trenton Tournament.
