With a very proud tear in our eye we Congratulate our 8th Grade Travel Team on winning the 2014 BTBL Navy Division Championship. On the evening of March 13th 2014, the Fort Lee Travel 8 team fought from behind to defeat a very good Dumont team 38-36 and become BTBL 2014 Girls Navy Division Champions!! On this night, Fort Lee started out slow taking shots from all angles but atlas the ball continued to clang in and out of the cylinder never falling in. Dumont took the lead early with Fort Lee down 12-4 after the first quarter and 20-9 at the half. The coaches message at halftime was simple, take the game on one possession at a time winning the inner battles with a goal of trimming Dumont’s lead by at least half of the current halftime deficit by the close of the third quarter and then unleash in the fourth quarter. We asked the girls to maintain their composure and continue forward – lots of game to play. The girls came out of halftime with a purpose. Fort Lee pressed the opposition into mistakes that lead to eight quick points. Fort Lee closed the gap to 27-23 by the end of the third quarter – goal one accomplished. Momentum was indeed shifting in Fort Lee’s direction and now it was time to unleash in the fourth quarter. The final quarter began with both teams battling hard for the victory with end to end action, however this night Fort Lee would not be denied. Midway through the final quarter, Fort Lee turned up their defensive play causing multiple turnovers and fast break baskets for the unremitting Fort Lee Team. Dumont was stunned and suddenly Fort Lee had the lead… the final minutes were played in a frenzied state but Fort Lee maintained their composure and “finished this thing” with a very proud and hard fought 38-36 victory. It is to this end we would like to thank the parents of our players for caring and being supportive throughout this season. To prez Mike for the passion and commitment to our program all season long and finally to the players – as a team you played hard all season, grew together as one and accomplished what we had set out for early October – Win a championship. Well done ladies!! We thank you all for the memories you have created soon not to be forgotten by anyone…
