2nd Annual Green Park 3rd Grade Basketball Tournament

Sponsored by Peace Lutheran Athletic Association

Tournament Regulations and Guidelines

All teams are guaranteed a minimum of 2 games.  The tournament format is a 2-pool format with a championship round with the top 6 teams playing 3 games total.  All players listed on the roster and playing in at least 1 game will receive a participation trophy award.  A championship trophy will be awarded to the 1st place winner this season.  This tournament is a fundraiser event to support the athletic programs for the children of Green Park Lutheran School.  Proceeds from this specific event are donated to the Tom Barton Children’s Education Fund.  Tom was a great friend, coach and supporter of Green Park and Peace Lutheran basketball programs who died in a tragic automobile accident.  His wife and children are active members of our Green Park family and participate in our athletic programs.  Please make your parents aware that a small gate fee will be collected each day and that concessions will be available and we ask that no outside food or drink be brought into the facilities.

2005 South County CYC Rules for the 3rd grade with the following tournament notes & exceptions:

1)      All players must play in each half of each game.  The scorer’s table will provide reminders but it is the responsibility of the coaches to adhere to this rule.

2)      No press rule in effect for the entire game.  Offensive team must be allowed to enter front court approximately 3’ prior to being defended.  Balls held in transition after a rebound or steal require opposing team to drop back.  Teams attempting to fast-break can be defended immediately.

3)      2-12 minute halves as per South County CYC rules, running clock if team is ahead by 20 pts.

4)      3 time outs per game with 1 additional time out being awarded for each 2 minute overtime period.

5)      12’ free throw line.  Player must start from behind the line however can cross over the line during the shot and the basket still counts.

6)      Game time is forfeit time – teams must have 5 players to start a game.

Note on Officiating: Each preliminary game may be officiated by 1 experienced adult referee and 1 referee-in-training.  Please be patient with the younger referees as they are trying to learn just as your 3rd graders are trying to learn.  Officials will be instructed to be lenient with traveling and lane violations, but to call fouls and obvious rule infractions as they occur.  We plan to have 2 adult referees for each championship round game.

**Officials for this tournament will be past teammates of Tom Barton who are donating their time.
