    R-P 2008 OK GREEN CHAMPS
May 16, 2008 For three years, the Rockets of Reeths-Puffer have tried without success to be at the top of the OK-Green. That streak came to an end Friday night at Mona Shores with the 2-1 victory from Holland Christian over Mona Shores. The Rockets tied for the conference championship along with Mona Shores and Holland Christian.

    Haven surprises R-P
May 14, 2008 Haven surprises R-P on diamond. The Grand Haven baseball team made the most of its opportunties Wednesday night. The Buccaneers capitalized on six errors and five stolen bases to upset Reeths-Puffer 6-5 in nonconference action "We played well and battled tonight and it was one of those things that the bounces went our way," said GH coach Morey Wagenmaker. "We made some mistakes, too, but the guys were able to battle out of it." Kurt Dilley threw four innings to pick up the win, while Jordan Anderson pitched the seventh to earn a save. Nick Rake struck out 10 in a losing effort for Reeths-Puffer. "It comes down to breaks and they had a lot of them," said R-P coach Tim Schuppe. "That's the way it goes sometimes." Grand Haven took an early 4-0 lead in the third inning, before the host Rockets rallied for three runs in the bottom half of the inning. GH scored two in the sixth, including the eventual game-winner as Josh Poel scored on a two-out single by Tyler Duston. Duston had two hits and two RBIs for the Bucs, while Cody Borta added a pair of hits. Sam Van Heest and Poel each had a pair of stolen bases for GH. RP Slits with Holland Christian
May 13, 2008 Reeths-Puffer needed two wins against visiting Holland Christian on Tuesday to stay tied with Mona Shores atop the O-K Green Conference standings. But Holland Christian spoiled the Rockets' plans by splitting a doubleheader. The Maroons won the opener 5-4 and Puffer rebounded with a 12-3 rout in the nightcap. Mona Shores (17-4, 9-1) and Holland Christian (21-3, 8-2) will play a key makeup game Friday at Shores for the league title. The Rockets had runners in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 1, but couldn't cross the plate. Three errors in the second inning doomed the Rockets (21-2, 9-2) and opened the door for the Maroons to score three runs. "We sealed our own fate in the first game," said Reeths-Puffer coach Tim Schuppe. "We had a shot to win it in the seventh, but you win as a team and you lose as a team." Zach Rake had two hits and an RBI and Ian Engle had two hits for the Rockets. Reeths-Puffer trailed 2-1 in Game 2, until Engle came through with a two-run homer in the third inning. He finished 4-for-4. Jared Molhoek also homered and finished with two hits along with Rake and Ryan Wynn

May 9, 2008 The third game of the rivalry goes to R-P. With runs hard to come by, Reeths-Puffer coach Tim Schuppe knew his team better score when they got the chance. Held scoreless and with only one hit heading into the bottom of the fourth-inning, the host Rockets finally got their chance.Chance Black the senior third baseman singled in two runs as part of the Rockets' three-run inning and beat Mona Shores 3-0. R-P closed the gap atop the O-K Green Conference. Reeths-Puffer (20-1, 8-1) pulled within half-a-game of the Sailors (15-3, 9-1). Held to a hit by Mona Shores starter Chris Mattson, the Rockets took advantage of two walks and a RBI single by Jared Molhek to get on the board in the fourth. With one out and runners on second and third, Black singled both in. "Chance has been our top player all year coming up with those big hits," said Schuppe. "He always seems to come up with runners on and comes up with the hit." Garret Moyer, who had lost to Shores at the start of the year, held the Sailors to three hits, striking out seven in the complete-game effort. Next Game is a doubleheader on Tuesday against Holland Christian with start time at 4:15

    2008 GMAA TIER 1 CHAMPIONS
May 3, 2008 Reeths-Puffer's Ryan Brannam was looking to make his mark for Reeths-Puffer's baseball team. He did just that on Saturday during the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association's Tier I final at a rainy Reeths-Puffer High School. The senior pitcher was stellar in relief as Reeths-Puffer defeated O-K Green rival Mona Shores 8-6 in the championship game. "I didn't play baseball last year and I really wanted to do something for the team," said Brannam. Brannam entered the game after a 45-minute rain delay in the bottom of the third inning with the score tied 5-all and shut down the Sailors over the next four innings. The righthander allowed a run on four hits in four innings, recording four strikeouts to earn the win. "I really didn't even expect to pitch today," added Brannam. "They told me I might pitch, but I was not expecting to. I thought I threw well and hit my spots." "I thought Ryan pitched very well in relief for us," said Reeths-Puffer coach Tim Schuppe. "He threw strikes and got ahead of the hitters for the most part." The Rockets (15-1) scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Devin Breen had a key RBI single and R-P capitalized on two costly Mona Shores errors. "We made some mistakes in that sixth inning that hurt us," said Mona Shores coach Walt Gawkowski. "We can't afford to make those mistakes against good teams." Mona Shores (13-2) looked as if they would rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as they loaded the bases with one out. R-P's Garret Moyer was summoned in relief and earned the save as he induced Kyle Gleason and Chris Mattson to hit fly ball outs. "Garrett came in and did a good job getting the last couple of outs," said Schuppe. "This was a big win for us against a good team.

The Sailors appeared early on as if they would make it two straight wins over Reeths-Puffer in the city title game. Mona Shores jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning and led 4-1 after two innings. R-P then scored four runs in the top of the third as Chase Black delivered a key two-run single. Shores tied the score at 5-all just before play was halted because of the rain in the bottom of the third inning. "The conditions were the same for both teams, so that wasn't a factor," said Gawkowski. "They just played better than we did today." The teams have now split a pair of games this season and meet again Friday in an O-K Green Conference game at Reeths-Puffer. "Hopefully, we can use this game as momentum when we play them again this week," said Schuppe.
