                  Lower Merion-Radnor football: a century's worth of memories


 

 

 

All the armchair Andy Reid wanna-be’s out there had to love this one. If you’re Radnor . . . your leading rusher is feeling punky all week and hasn’t practiced, what's the game plan now? . . . . your ball on LM’s 6, 5 ticks before half- take the sure 3 or try to bury LM by going for the TD? . . . . go for the bomb or stay with ball control? If you’re LM . . . how do you fire up your kids when half think their nickname is “Aces” and the other half think it’s “Bulldogs”? . . . . how many times do you go to the well with an onside kick? . . . . .how do you try to go 98 yards with 2:09 to play and no timeouts?
Say what you want- LM was undermanned, the home field advantage was taken away by the presence of our fans and band, but they stood firm and Cubby coached his butt off in this one and nearly pulled it off.

The game had it’s share of memorable moments- “TD” McCurdy going to the house (again!!!), Tika’s first Varsity TD, Webster’s bone crunching hits that caused Vinnie’s interception run for a TD and Andersen’s game ending interception, the combination of Watt’s booming punt and Harris’ hustle to down it at the 2, and Coach Ryan’s baptism, but all present shall not soon forget the look of elation on the faces of our boys and their coaches after an exhilarating win. The team, coaches and fans have been through a lot this season, so we all deserved this one! - BSchmader
