From outgoing president Doug Moritz:
BOOSTER CLUB DONATIONS HIT NEW HIGH FOR ROCKVILLE
On the final day that the full staff was gathered at Rockville High for 2007, Booster Club President Doug Moritz presented more donations to Rockville's Principal Dr. Debra Munk. For the year, the Booster Club donated over $50,000 to the school's school-based organizations, athletic teams and other parent organizations. Since the school year doesn't officially end until June 30th when the exact amounts will be final, the Booster Club raised over $100,000 this year from its fundraising at sports events, its annual Mulch Sale, sale of spirit wear and snacks at Rockville as well as Wood Middle School, donations from businesses in the community, and Rockville community events held at Rockville High this past school year.
"We turned over more money this year than ever before. The increase has so much to do with the enthusiasm at the school which is a direct result of everyone's efforts to make Rockville a place where students, parents and now the community want to be," Moritz said while at the school on Friday, June 15th. "The enthusiasm is infectious. It takes the entire Rockville community for that to happen, including Principal Munk and her team of administrators, teachers and coaches," he added. "Most importantly though, we had so many more parents step up this year to help with clubs, teams, and school events. I am proud of the effort of every one of the parents who found the time out of concern for the students, and often without the recognition they deserve."
A brief breakdown of the donations this year included an increase in funding for school-based organizations (up 100% form 2006) and the Athletic Department (up 89% from last year):
School Based Organizations $8,900
Scholarship, Staff appreciation, School publications and Rededication $2,100
Athletic Department (all teams and programs) $37,100
After Prom (parent-sponsored) $3,000
Stadium lights $2,200

AND FROM Athletic Director Paul Fahrner:
I just want to express my utmost gratitude from the Athletic department for the generous contribution from the booster club. As Doug mentioned it was the combined effort of parents, students and community. These funds will help our teams to have the best playing fields and equipment for our teams to be competitive. With the addition of JV Lacrosse next year we will have 36 Varsity and JV teams competing in inter-scholastic sports next year. Needles to say it takes a lot of money to fund these activities. The County provides some funds to help finance athletics but to purchase some big budget items additional resources are needed. Thanks to the efforts of our hard working booster club ( the best in Montgomery county !!!) we have those additional funds. I would like to provide a list of things we have purchased over the past three years and will purchase this year thanks to the efforts of the booster club.
scorers table and chairs for the main gym
sound systems for the stadium field and main gym
championship banners in the main gym
irrigation system for the baseball and softball fields
scoreboards for baseball and softball
tractor to cut the fields
new starting system for the swim team
pitching machine for softball
temporary fences for softball and baseball
new wrestling mats
new cheerleading stunt mats
laptop computer for swim team
sideline tarps for football to protect the field for soccer and field hockey
tarps for pitching mound and home plate
new lacrosse equipment for JV girls and boys teams
Shoot-A - Way for girls and boys Basketball
some additional hurdles for the track teams
additional outdoor storage containers
the cost to maintain our athletic fields ( the county does the bare minimum)
whatever comes up during the year that needs to be replaced. there is always something
The funds are used to support the entire athletic program here at Rockville. I think that in the community there is a feeling that most of the funds go to football. As you can see that is not true. Once again Thank from the Rockville Athletic department.
